Okay okay, let us be real here for a second, shall we?
I'm sure lots of us, myself certainly included, have tried to spark an interest in others for our beloved band, have we not? Well, I'm sure some of you will deny it, but hopefully some of you people will blatantly come out and say "YES I HAVE LADYMOONSHINEDOWN, I HAVE! AND YES LADYMOONSHINEDOWN, YOU ARE MY GODDESS OF ALL ETERNITY." Okay.....I just threw in that last part to see if you were paying attention. ;)Anyhow......
I must say that many of my friends did not know of any Queen except for the obvious hits (i.e. BoRhap, WATC/WWRY, blah blah blah). So what did I do? I introduced them slowly and gradually to each and every album I owned, which happens to be all their albums. ;) Funny how that works, eh? And now, I can safely say that many of my friends are now Queen aficionado's. But not as much as yours truly of course. Cos afterall, I am god, so who can beat that? lol. However, there have been many others who I've tried to open up to Queen, and still couldn't. Those people however, like the Ted Nugent, so I think that is entirely explainable all in itself, is it not? ;)
Now I ask YOU the question, after a long and lengthy paragraph that could have been summarized within one sentence. Oh well....here goes that question:
Have you tried to 'convert' people into Queen fans? Did you succeed or fail? And please....details would be nice. God doesn't like short, half-assed answers. ;)

When I was younger, I tried. Thought it would be neat.
Then I realized I didn't like their music, why should they like mine.
So I made Queen a part of who I was. It's my music that I listen to a lot. If you don't like it, I'm sorry.
I gave up trying to convert long ago. To each his own, as they say.
I've tried to convert people, and it's sort of worked. I made my ex-boyfriend listen to a couple songs, and he fell in love with Bohemian Rhapsody and then bought A Night At The Opera, but I don't think he ever actually listened to anything other than Bohemian Rhapsody. And I'm slowly trying to convert one of my friends from listening to just the greatest hits by sneaking some less obvious songs (It's Late, Spread Your Wings, etc.) onto mix CDs for her. We'll see how it works out!

I've made mixed CD's with all the barely known or unknown songs of Queen. I like to introduce my friends to my music, and I'm not going to be like "YOU HAVE TO LISTEN TO IT AND LIKE IT GOD DAMNIT!"
I'm not stupid, and I'm not going to convince someone who doesn't want to be convinced, you know? If they don't like it, that is their own problem, but yeah, it is always nice when someone becomes a newly renowned Queen fan, lol.

You guys have great friends most of mine won't even watch GVH1 with me. Actually i have one friend who when i asked the others said she would and the other day she said she was going to download some Queen songs because she wants to see why i like them so much.
But unfortunately no conversions, however, one of my friends who seems determined to not like Queen, has taken a liking to GOFLB and Don't Try Suicide when i made her listen to them so i guess it's a start.
I have coverted a lot of people.... but then again, I own a music store...so its played constantly.
I live in a very, closed minded, republican part of the USA.
Many of my customers, who buy only country music... have no problem admitting that Queen are brillant.
Many will tell you that Freddie may possibly be the best singer of rock music that they are aware of...
When these tobacco chewing boys come into my store to buy their Garth Brooks cds, they will stop, and look up on the Big Screen , and watch 20 minutes of Milton Keys or Wembley..... but they'll never buy a thing with Queen on it.
Why?
Most closed minded folks in this area have no tolerance for homosexuality.
They will admit Freddie's unbelievable, but they know they would be ridiculed, and harrassed if they brought a Queen album near their "peers".
So...they miss out on the greatest band.
Their loss.
Its a very pleasing feeling though when one of these hillbilies watches the opening to Milton Key's (you know, Flash, Hero, Rock You fast, Action)...and says between 6-10 homosexual slurs...
Then turns to me and says "That's that gay Queen band right?"....they are unreal!

Basing an unfair assumption of a band because of their inner fear of a lifestyle and sexual preference is not only absurd, it is repulsive and completely ignorant. If they can admit that Queen was brilliant, and Freddie was one of the best singers ever, then why are they too afraid to buy a CD? Well....
I believe you hit it on the head.
Looking bad in front of their 'peers' is something they cannot handle. Ugh, if only people could look past their nose and realize that it shouldn't have to be about the lifestyle that is seemingly associated with the music, but rather the music itself.

I convert my friends into Queen fans almost regularly. In fact, in my experience, babysitting gigs are a goldmine. Just play some Queen and promise to play more if the kids behave. It works.
I remember a year ago, my friend Maye SWORE that she was not a Queen fan. But I made her borrow GH I + II and for a long time she was addicted. I doubt she'll be like any of us and come to the point of being dangerously obsessed. But I tried.
i had a friend who bought an iPod, and came round to my house to get as much music as he could.
he was a bit of a music fan, was knowledgable of all the decent old artists (Stones, Beatles, Elton John, Queen etc etc) but didnt own any Queen bar GH1. so....
i thought I'd start him off with something simple like The Game onwards, less heavy, bit more 'easy' as a first time listener.
he is now hooked, has started buying them for himself.
however i think the best thing was, he asked if i had any "soft" music, bit emotional. so i gave him Happiness? ot see what he thought. he is hooked on Rog too.
he's now attending Queen concerts with me too.
Good on him!
