I went to see We Will Rock You at the Dominon on Monday Night, for my girlfriend's birthday, and I must say that despite my "proper Queen fan" status, I really quite enjoyed it! The songs suffered by being sung by "musical types" I thought, but all in all it was a good laugh.
What did anyone else think?
I thought it was one of the best shows I've ever seen. It was because of that show that got me into Queen. Before I seen the show, I knew very little about Queen and never realised how great they were until I went to see the show.
Just that if you're a proper Queen fan you're not supposed to approve of such things as taking brilliant rock songs and putting them in a musical.
Which, in theory, I still don't, except it was done as well as you can do it here.
Although I thought some of them were just there for the sake of it, I don't know how appropriate Bicycle Race and Hammer To Fall were, but I guess they had to get them in where they could.

I know, being an individual with your own opinion SUCKS! :-P I've yet to see the musical but I really want to. And considering the majority of reviews I read, it's quite good. I hope it comes to Chicago one day.

i loved it!!!! champion!!!! my mother and step-father took my little cousin, my friend and i and it kicked some serious arse!!!! my little cousin, though a queen fan, not as big as my friend and i, got scared by us...he was dressed nicely for the theatre, whereas my friend and i dressed normal...so, for me, lots of layers, and mainly black! hell, we were so hot that (as in sexy hot) i was asked to sell programs...my claim to fame...shutup! dont ruin my dream! and throughout the performance, we were laughing (being a comedy and all) but there was this guy behind us, who would laugh atthe most random thing, and it wasnt a silent laugh....really loud. so we sat there laughing at the show, and at him!!
and then, a few weeks/months (i cant remember) after the show, i was at my fathers show, being the good daughter i am (*choke*) i was serving, and wearing my WWRY T-shirt, and who should walk in, but BRIAN MAY!!!
(Fuck i wish) no...it was the australian guy who played Gaz...he's pretty fit. and he's getting married. What a sap... so i was proud, and my father suggested i keep his used lemon....i dont take much of my fathers advice...he's a bit dodge on that.
Great show though...
I have seen it twice. It's a great show.
The reason the composisiton of the songs is so good, (even if they do not always sound like the originals) is that Brain and Roger oversee the production so and have the final say.
Similar to the slow rendition of HTF on the Brain May tour - totally different but blows your mind away.
