I think Guns N' Roses are a great band For Axl to sing Bo Rhap with Elton John at the Freddie Tribute Concert was a great honour for him They are still together but without Slash, Duff and the other guy What do we think of them? P.S Getting their Greatest Hits album this Saturday |
Mr.Jingles 13.01.2005 15:39 |
This question should be more divided into 2 secions: - What do we think of Axl, and what do we think of the rest of the band. On the recent 'Wish You Were Here' topic I posted how despite being an extremely talented musician an songwriter, Roger Waters led Pink Floyd to a break up thanks to his arrogance and over-controlling attitude. A very similar case happens with Guns N' Roses. Their shot to fame came nearly instantly when they released their first solo album 'Apetite For Destruction', and all of sudden they were seen as the biggest musical sensation of the generation. Eventually Axl's antics had to come to the surface, and he wanted to control everything surrounding the band. That eventually lead to all of his fellow bandmates leaving the band. Not to mention all the riots that Axl started by not willing to perform concerts, and by picking fights on stage with his bandmates, crew, and members of the audience. Slash couldn't have said it better when he left the band in 1996: - "With Axl, is just impossible to work with". I used to be a big Guns N' Roses fan on their heyday, but I hate Axl for being such a prick. I yet admire him a respect him as a musician, but other than that the guy has not many good things to show. Like Freddie said once... - All rock bands have fights, but bands break up when there's a prick who is stronger than the rest of the band". |

Why don't you just go through the Book of Hit Singles, tell us what you think of each group in turn, and then perhaps we could move on. |

I love Guns N' Roses. Granted, Axl Rose was an ass, but they ended up creating some great music before imploding. The Greatest Hits album is good, but try Appetite For Destruction. It's definitely their best album. And Slash was an amazing guitarist. |

GNR are awesome(not as awesome as Queen tho...)but...i dont really like axl... |

I pretty much agree with all that has been said. I love G&R but Axl, doll, please stay away from the plastic surgeons...and the rest of humanity while youre at it @_@ |
Freddieshotdate03 14.01.2005 08:21 |
They're cool but who was the singer that got drunk and passed out on stage? |
Brian_Mays_Wig 14.01.2005 10:05 |
love them, enough said. |

Everyone seems to love the music of Guns N' Roses, but hate Axl Rose... Doesn't surprise me, really. I remember attending the New York show for the Guns N' Roses comeback tour in late 2002. It was a great show, believe it or not. Axl's voice was still in good shape despite the huge gut, and the botox. I remember before the show started, some girl was holding a sign saying... - "I LOVE YOU AXL, FUCK SLASH!" Then the whole arena started booing her, and throwing shit at her. That truly showed that people were there for a bit of taste from the past rather than to show their support for Axl's new band. Turns out to be that the next date after New York, was Philly. The infamous date that ended up in a riot when Axl (once again) decide not to show up on stage. The promoters got so pissed off that they decided to cancel the rest of the tour. |

yes, they were huge i remeber. It was one of the biggest bands of all time. They were so fucking great. But Axl ruined the band with his sterotype macho style.he wasnt a good leader of the band. But begin in such band,it's not healthy for anyone. |
Wreckage 15.01.2005 11:45 |
One of the last great rock bands, but the mix of personalities and experiences and musical styles in the band - which gave them their edge was too volatile too last. As for Axl, it's a shame his mental state and his work ethic have stopped him from geting the credit that his musical ability deserves. |
Sonja 15.01.2005 14:02 |
They were good. Despite Axl's asshole behaviour... he was a great songwriter and their music was good. Especially the "Use Your Illusion" era was great. Songs like "November Rain", "Estranged", "Don't Cry" are simply fantastic pieces of music IMO. I don't care what they're doing now or why they broke up, etc. They won't ever be able to top Use Your Illusion I and II. I think they should rather spend their time on other things than music and fighting and putting bands together and breaking up again... |

Great band. Love Mr. Brownstone. |

Guess I'm the only one who is not a fan, and I also thought Axl Rose singing BoRhap was hideous. |
Serry... 18.01.2005 15:13 |
I don't think about Guns N'Roses at all! |
Krizzy 18.01.2005 15:14 |
Guns and Roses will be no more because Axl has a lot of baggage he needs to shed before reforming another band. Too bad he's a good singer but seriously f*cked up in the head. I admire Duff and Slash for having the strength to form a great band like Velvet Revolver, they are really hard rocking and do a great show. If Axl ever gets it together and forms a new band I would go to see him, but he's got a long road... Cheers, Kriz |

GnR is fantastic. Expect some comments about them in the next Bechstein Debauchery :) |
brian_may_wannabe 25.02.2005 09:34 |
The only song of theirs I listen to is November Rain. The song is quite good. I'm not overly keen on Axl's voice, he reuined We Will Rock You at Freddie's memorial show imo. |

G 'n' R WERE great, but no longer exist. Axl was an idiot, who was a good songwriter with a unique voice that was poor, but he could write songs that hid the limitations, so his voice works on the G'n'R stuff. He was crap at the Queen+ section of the Tribute. His ego ruined G'n'Rs warm up set as well, the "sing along" part of Knockin' on Heavens Door went on way too long and killed the atmosphere that they had done a great job of building up to that point. I doubt I'll bother with any new G'n'R but would like to see Velvet Revolver. Slash Duff etc are still great. Dan |

I love Axl Rose very much,and ofcourse guns n roses. I can't get enough of don't cry .. great song,don't you think :) ? |
Leppar 25.02.2005 10:28 |
GnR ROCK! Ok not as much as Def Leppard but nobody can match DL. Also, why do people hate Axl so much? He speaks his mind which is a fantastic quality to have. At least he doesn't bottle his opinions up and speaks just to please people. He was fantastic at FM's tribute which shows that he CAN sing other peoples songs. And what was wrong with 'One In A Million' anyway? He sung what he wanted it was a great song. Trust some people to kick up a fuss - and people who get upset about a record should just chill out. Axl was great, but like so many wannabe's, they can't touch Joe Elliott. |
English Bowman 25.02.2005 10:37 |
Leppar, were you at the FM Tribute? I was and Axl was way out of tune, he was one of the lesser singers there. As for Def Leppard, give it a rest. I am a huge Leppard fan, but even I can see that they are not the most talented band in the universe. They are a great band with a great frontman, who whilst being a better singer than Axl (by miles) is still not an all time great, but like Axl he knows him limitations and stays within them which is good, but doesn't make him the greatest singer in the universe. (PS Leppard were great at the FM Tribute) Dan |
Mr.Jingles 25.02.2005 10:48 |
You seriously need to give Def Leppard a rest on these boards, man. I mean, I quite like Def Lep, but in the end they were just a hair band that made 2 or 3 successful albums and just faded away ever since. If you want to talk about how great is Def Lep, then there's plenty of Def Leppard boards all over then internet. Ever thought of spending more time there, than here? Not like I'm saying to not come here, just cool it a bit with Def Lep and Joe Elliot. I mean, whenever you say something about Def Leppard you sound like Joe Elliot's lost 80s groupie. I could definitely see you spending all your lifetime savings money on Rick Allen's left arm after being up for sale on Ebay. |
Leppar 25.02.2005 10:51 |
Why do i spend time here? Maybe because i love Queen. And yes, i am on other Def Leppard messageboards. |
English Bowman 25.02.2005 11:04 |
Leppar wrote: Why do i spend time here? Maybe because i love Queen. And yes, i am on other Def Leppard messageboards. But this isn't an "other Def Leppard messageboard" it's a Queen messageboard..... And were you at the FM Tribute? I don't mean to be harsh, but two things come to mind; 1) No matter how much you like another band, ramming it down at every opportunity does no good, you're even pissing off other Leppard fans like me. I have plenty of other bands than I like including Leppard, Thunder, Magnum, Marillion / Fish, etc but I don't constantly go on about how good they are. Mentioning it now and then is OK, just not every post :P 2) If you weren't at a gig it's hard to judge it. Voices mix etc can be improved before broadcast / release and the version of the Tribute concert that is available is very different in some places to actually being there. For example the Robert Plant section of the Tribute gig was edited to make him sound better on the release. It can't portray atmosphere either so I'd take the judgement of someone who was there over a recording any time. Recordings of Ozzy gigs are a fine example of this, they do not do him justice. |
Hildur. 25.02.2005 13:05 |
Why do ...some of you hate Axl Rose? |
Leppar 25.02.2005 13:16 |
I thought Axl was great, and had a good voice - but some homos can't get over a sentance of one song. |
English Bowman 25.02.2005 14:18 |
Axl does not have a good voice, but he does know how to use a poor voice well, which is almost as good. (Ozzy Osbourne and Lemmy from Motorhead are other good examples of this) The reason I don't like him is because of his comtempt of fans ie tantrums at / before gigs or just not showing. That is not acceptable when people have spent a lot of money to see a show. And it isn't just the odd occasion that he has done this Dan |
Mr.Jingles 25.02.2005 14:31 |
I'm a huge Guns N' Roses fan but I have to say that as a person I hate Axl. Axl managed to get the best bunch of musicians he could possibly get and formed Guns N' Roses. After the release of 'Apetite For Destruction' and the 'Use Your Illusion' albums, everybody seemed to predict that Guns N' Roses was going to become the greatest thing since the big bands of the 70s... Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, and of course Queen. However, thanks to Axl's fascist way to run his band, the whole group fell apart. Slash couldn't have said it better... "With Axl, it's just impossible to work". |
Mr.Jingles 25.02.2005 14:41 |
Now back to the topic of Axl's voice, he has a voice that is only good in a hard rock genre. In fact most rock singers sound only good in their own genres, or sometimes only with their original songs. That's perhaps one of the reason why AC/DC has never written a ballad or anything close to it. Just picture Brian Johnson getting soft and singing a ballad? Creepy isn't it? Axl did good at the Freddie Mercury Tribute IMO. However, the only thing I have to say he did wrong was missing the tempo on 'We Will Rock You'. For some reason, almost all musicians who have attempted to sing it, screw it up on the line: - "...Somebody better put you back in your place". |
