Seems like old crap is being considered better than new crap. It's sick that after more than 50 years we still call Elvis 'The King Of Rock N' Roll', when he has just about as much talent as Justin Timberlake... both couldn't write songs, couldn't play instruments, but got too overhyped thanks to their good looks. |

He was the first even if he ain't good at your standards, but he did much more for music than Justin and a lot of other guys. |
Mr.Jingles 09.01.2005 17:41 |
Chuck Berry, Jerry Lee Lewis, Little Richard, Buddy Holly, Billy Haley, The Platters, Fats Domino (just to mention a few)... Those DID SOMETHING! On Elvis' case it was more what music did for him, than what he did for music. |
Mr.Jingles 09.01.2005 17:41 |
I have to give the guy the props for being a good performer, but in the long run he's just a fabricated star. |

Elvis is #1 again?? Which song is it that's at #1? And in which country? |

But you know I really don't care who's on top of any charts, I love Bo Rhap not because it reached #1 in the charts. So forget about them and leave 'em with their Elvis! :) |
John S Stuart 09.01.2005 19:10 |
Until this evening, Queen's Bo Rhap was the only song to be released by the same artist to reach number one in the UK. Now that Elvis has reached number one with Jailhouse Rock, that is no longer so. Also, Elvis is now the only artist (I believe) to have the the same number one in two different centuries and millenia. |

And all because if he was still alive, he would have been 70 years old this week. |

HeM wrote: He did some good songs, and I confess that I like Jailhouse Rock. But he wasn't a good performer at all.I kind of half agree with that. I much preferred the pre-army Elvis performances as apposed to the "cat-suit Vegas" years as he was more raw and driven then. HeM wrote: Elvis' videos are very crappy, they don't look like rock videos at all. They look much more Ula-Ula videos than rock videos, if you want my opinion.Thats probably because many of his vids came from actual films and had to fit into the formula of the film which itself was usually crap. Incidentally, Elvis isnt the only oldie in the charts - at #3 is Iron Maiden with Number Of The Beast!! |

Here's a sad tale that's oddly appropriate: My English teacher is a, let's say, CYNICAL person. She likes to tell our class that the youth these days just EATS UP commercialized pop and pulp fiction; She infered that if you liked the movie ,"A Walk to Remember" you were naive and uncreative. Yet when she asked us to make a connection between a novel we were reading and pop culture, I rose my hand and compared a barrier in the novel to Pink Floyd's The Wall (long story) she clicked her tounge and said, "you WOULD like Pink Floyd". As if that was a bad thing! And then, one day I wore my Queen hoodie to school and she rolled her eyes at me. So this psuedo-think ouside the box/ don't buy into what the music industry throws out at you- lady... you'll never guess who her favorite "artist" is... Elvis. Because, NATURALLY, Elvis' music is thought provoking and not overdone or commercialized AT ALL... |

Invented the fifties? I didn't realise he did that! Must have taken some doing. Did he take out a patent? I like Elvis. I try to do his shuffle at parties, but I just end up getting attacked. |

I wonder is this old or new version (remix)? |
eggy 10.01.2005 08:13 |
Next week is the 1000th number one ever (if it's a new entry), I'd rather it be Elvis than some shitty girl/boy band crap Saying that the only single I shall be buying this week is Somebody Told Me by The Killers, and thats only for a b-side. |
Mayboy 10.01.2005 08:45 |
I remember when "A Little less conversation" was at the top it had to be taken off or something because it was number one for god knows how many weeks, if it remained on the chart noone else was going to get a look in! Still things like this publicly prove that todays music is pants |
The Fairy King 10.01.2005 11:18 |
So he didn't write his own songs BIG DEAL, wot about Elton?? Elvis was the first entertainer! Saw the movie "Elvis Lives" yesterday for the 3rd time. He was truly great. The amount of CRAP he got for moving his hips and racist fucks who said rock n roll was "nigger music" and he should be banned. Respect for the guy and i love his music. |
Mr.Jingles 10.01.2005 11:40 |
At least Elton John writes the music on all his songs. He admits not being very good at writing lyrics, and that's why he'd rather have Bernie Taupin write them. Still Elton John is still miles away more talented than Elvis. |
The Fairy King 10.01.2005 12:03 |
Whatever...that's your opinion, doesn't mean you're right or anything :P Elvis is waay more interesting! |

The second time was post-humously, as was/is JR and BohRap. BohRap is still the song to be an Xmas #1 twice, and during 4 diff. years! (75-76, 91-92) |

Fact Elvis didn't invent R'NR. He was the exploitative end of the music industry that invented it. Anyway Jerry Lee and Chuck Berry are still going-they were R'NR, but not inventors of it-it all came from southern states gospel, blues etc. Elvis and Co were the Stones of the 60s, New York Dolls/Sex Pistols of 70s and any other band that put a different edge on music as we hear it. Rebellion is what its about-Patti Smith 80s and yes Oasis-have a central theme be different make people listen. Simple really. Everyone has a different take on who their 'king' is in their generation. Cheers and happy listening.... |
Mr.Jingles 10.01.2005 16:17 |
Saying that Elvis invented Rock N' Roll is like saying that Madonna invented pop. I definitely stick by Chuck Berry, Jerry Lee Lewis, Little Richard, and Buddy Holly because they did a lot more for Rock N' Roll than Elvis ever did. They're just too underated, while Elvis pretty much took the whole media attention. |

I dont think it is bad Elvis made No 1 again, his or better to say his permormed music is more valuable than today's popcrap. And even if someone says he is crap, I think we must admit that old crap is better present crap. Actually another thing saddens me, I think if we had Queen in this situation, they wouldnt top the chart. For example, who could claim that if Queen would release WWRY (fast version), or CLTCL or something else for F. Mercury's birthday, they would top the chart? I dont think so, but Elvis did it, and twice: first A little bit conversation and now Jailhouse rock. I feel even now Queen dont get proper estimate that they are worth and allways were worth. |
