I just read the book "mercury and me" and found that it makes a lot of revelations into freddie´s intimacy I think it is also a "nice" way for Mr Hutton to make money by speaking about freddie´s most desired latter day wish, wich was to keep his privacy (and have as much fun as he can). He also says in the book that freddie found he was HIV positive in 1987 and not in late 1986 as some fan posted in this site. any opinions?? |

Why did you read it in the first place then? If you're going to read a book written by a dead celebrity's life partner you'd expect some fairly intimate details. |

The way it was presented was a bit random, some facts were relayed to us even when we did not need it, read only for entertainment. |

Use your heads people. Think about it. Jim had been chucked out the house, he was running low on cash (cos freddies had nearly all gone) he wanted more. It makes sense. I think alot of it was intended to be nicer than it was taken. For example, i dont think Jim told the world freddie wet himself just for a laugh, i think he was trying to show us how degrading and evil AIDS is |

oppositionist, you could be right. Peter Freestone mentions that same incident in his book. I myself have not read Jim's book and I don't think I ever will. |

I read an excerpt from the book that was posted online a while ago and in it, Jim mentioned an incident where a friend/confident of Freddie's sold some information about Freddie to the Tabloids. Jim says that when Freddie saw this, he was so outraged that he refused to talk to this person again. Does anyone else find that EXTREMELY ironic? |
Sebastian 03.01.2005 16:43 |
Yes, but Jim doesn't seem to be afraid that Fred wouldn't speak to him again now |

i think it is mediocre to make cash writing a book telling secrets and violating privacy of one person (one loved person) i would never buy that book, and neither other book about freddie's intimate life |

Read the Live Killers sleeve, Paul Prenter was mentioned there (I don't know if other sleeves mention it). |

Did Paul Prenter die of AIDS? |

Yes Paul passed away from Aids I think 'Mercury and Me' is the best book because it brings a Closure to all the Questions we wanted to know about what happened to Freddie and it gives you a Deeper look into Freddies Life away from QUEEN and some lovely stories at Home with his Family and cats and fish and the Garden etc etc Its what Freddie would have wanted..Its REAL! If your a honest MERCURY Fan you will Love It! Everyone must Read this Book if you Loved and Grew up watching Freddie Mercury Jim is Wonderful he spent his Final Years with Fred you get a Deeper Understanding than other Books that sweep everything underneath the Carpet I understand why certain QUEEN fans dislike it but it is about Freddie not Brian, Roger or John just keep that in Mind and you shouldn't have a problem with it |

Sebastian, good one. Hutton's book is very affectionate and has some cultural weight as an AIDS memoir. It's perfectly clear from the outset, even from the cover, what the book is about, and that it's personal. People who don't want to hear about it shouldn't read it. --Egret |

Jim isn't however a writer and I don't think he was able to write about a fake feeling so well. You see, when you read it, you're left with the impression Jim loves Freddie very much; given the fact he writes in an awful manner, he couldn't create this feeling if he didn't love Freddie (I write novels, so I really know what I'm talking about). Besides that, those memories belong to Jim as well as they belonged to Freddie and Freddie being dead, it's only Jim's decision whether he wants to publish them or not. It's Jim's private life too, if he's not bothered to reveal it to the world... anyway, he doesn't harm Freddie anymore, it's perhaps the nicest book about him (in Rick Sky's e.g., Freddie looks like a spoiled child always wanting to go partying, in here he looks like a normal guy, with his ups and downs). I don't blame Jim for writing this book, it's something beyond morality and imorality. And we don't own Jim's life, we can't just go on saying what a bastard he is and things like that, the only thing we can do is buying or not buying his book. After all, Jim didn't kill Freddie, he's not a murderer, is he, why are we so mad angry about him? |

i know this isnt about jim hutton's book, because i havent read it, but i did read the book by peter freestone his personal assistant. the idea i got of freddie mercury from that book was that he was all about sex. it sounds stupid, but i didnt read it to know that! lol. personally i think what people do in their beds or wherever should be kept there. and if you (the sex maniac) publishes these things about yourself its one thing, but to publish things about someone else, dead or alive, its another thing. |
