Yeah I agree. The whole thing was not bad at all. And at least we know now that the SSOR video (recently on Riens site) was the first ever clip of them on TOTP.
I thought it was great, I too wondered abotu Roger's twitch
Thought it was fun to see them jamming together, and lovely to hear dragon attack and tear it up, probably the first time we've seen those songs played by brian and roger for nearly 20 years :)
I enjoyed hearing the different tracks on their own, and seeing the SSOR TOTP clip for the first time. The Oxford scholars' attempts to dissect the lyrics (the bit I was looking forward too the most) was a bit of a let down though. They seemed to conclude that Freddie just stuck togehter a bunch of words that sounded good (though I never noticed the (possible) steal from 'A Day In The Life' before).
And, as inevitably as the day turns into night, they managed to fit in a plug for that flipping musical at the end.
Still, it's worth an hour of anyones time to watch it. And there is no excuse for missing it because, as Fatty said, it will probably be repeated ad nauseum on BBC Three, (will make a change from wall to wall 'Little Britain' and '2 pints of lager...' though).
BRITAIN, BRITAIN, BRITAIN....
Opened in 1975 by Lord Freddie of Lucan and the only country in the world that still makes half decent TV and bloody good Queen documentaries.
There must have been about 5 in as many years.
VH-1/MTV take note.
I have to go now and dress up in woman's clothing and mime to Bohemian Rhapsody in front of a full length mirror....Goodbye
Yeah I know. BBC3 has long been my favourite TV channel. A brilliant show on Bo Rhap and interesting to (finally) see Queen do Seven Seas Of Rhye on Top Of The Pops. Does Roger really know the truth behind Bohemian Rhapsody?
With The Smoking Room, Little Britain, 123 FU and The Story of Bohemian Rhapsody I'm proud to be British, British, British opened in 1972......................etc etc
I taped this as I was busy elsewhere at the time, but I think that it probably taped badly because my VCR has a tendency to ruin all the things Im looking forward to. I'll watch it later though hopefully..
Excellent documentary. Highlights were seeing footage of Queen performing Seven Seas Of Rhye on TOTP, hearing the rehearsal of "Fred's Thing" (ie early Bo Rhap piano parts) with Freddie swearing when he got it wrong! and Brian and Roger jamming to the fast part of Bo Rhap, Tear It Up and Dragon Attack in the studio present day. At one point during Bo Rhap Roger stops while Brian continues to play, and comments on the lack of bass lol. Roy Thomas Baker "unpicks" the mix (similar to the small segment on the GVH1 DVD) but gives different examples to what we've heard before. Essential viewing.
