They have a policy of putting songs on Greatest Hits compilations: anything below top 30, I think, does not go. Body Language, however, was included in the American GH because it peaked at no. 11, if I remember.
I agree; though it could have been decided that no GHIII would be made after Freddie's death, they should have planned for it. Therefore, they should have taken a couple of Miracle and Innuendo tracks off and put some more Hot Space tracks or A Kind Of Magic tracks, something like that.
Like so:
A Kind Of Magic
Under Pressure
Radio Ga Ga
I Want It All
I Want To Break Free
Back Chat
It's A Hard Life
Scandal
Who Wants To Live Forever
Action This Day (great song)
The Miracle
Body Language
The Invisible Man
Hammer To Fall
Friends Will Be Friends
The Show Must Go On
One Vision
I think "Greatest Hits II" is ok. But I'm not sure about many ideas put into life on "Greatest Hits III". I wouldn't put "Show Must Go On" with Elton John on it. It was not a single and - let's face it - it's weak! The remix of "Under Pressure" also should have been ommitted, but they just tried to have something new to promote the album. I think people would buy the album, even if Rah Mix wasn't there. The single flopped anyways. It's also quite controversial idea to put the solo stuff on a Queen album, but ok - "Barcelona" and "Driven By You" were big hits and people associate them with Queen, so ok. Instead of "Show Must Go On" and "Pressure" I would put "A Winter's Tale" and "Body Language" on it.
I just want to mention that in Finland GH2 is the most sold foreign album ever. Every family seems to have a copy of it.
One more thing. How many hits are there on GH3?

I don't think you could have got away with putting Body Language/Calling All Girls on GH2. They're just shit songs that would really stand out as such amoungst the bigger hits.
Queen had their pick of commercial hits to choose from and they chose the best. Obviously GHIII is a cobbled-together release that I still find difficult to comprehend. Still not so bad, however, as to include Body Language/Calling All Girls ;-)
How about not releasing GHIII at all...?
It's an utter piece of crap this record! The only thing I like about it is the way it was released on vinyl- looks pretty nice!

They knew Freddie was dying, so they didn't expect Queen to get any substantial number of hits posthumously, so they didn't expect that there was ever going to be a GH III in the first place. For that reason, I think they were right in including the Innuendo tracks.
exactly - although when you consider Queen only allowed songs that charted at 24 or above in the UK to be included it did leave a potential GH3 a bit bare, as was proved later.
Also, if you look in the GHV2 booklet it states that Calling All Girls, Scandal, Body Language, Back Chat etc. were all eligible hits but not included in GH2 for the reason that "Queen had too many hits". So why weren't they in GH3? Even better wouldn't have been to release GH3 at all, yet instead release another studio album made up of NOBY, TGIC, WWRY (fast), Under Pressure (rah mix) plus b-sides/finished demos etc.
