Hello,
Maybe this is a new fresh idea to make sure their is going to be more discussion about Queen.
I must say i really like this forum, but it contains a lot of (newbie mostly) bullshit topics.
I want to bring back the discussion about Queen. Collecting, swapping rare recordings, concert stories etc.
So this is the idea:
Post a reply in wich you tell about your nicest (or some of them) experience during your life as a queen fan. This could be everything: a concert you went to, getting that great collectors item, meeting Freddie, whatever... you just have describe it.
It may be nice as well if you posted a picture in the photo section about that experience and put the link in the story.
Tell me guys (and girls) what do you think about this idea?
LET'S TALK ABOUT QUEEN AGAIN!!!
We had thousand topics like this before!!! damn you newbies!
Just kidding.
Interesting idea, we did have this topic a few times before, but in the meantime a lot of new people joined. :-)
For example:
I'm a queen fan since 1991. I was 8 years old when i first heard Queen. The Show Must Go On.. i heard it and loved it... After that i began collecting cassette tapes with queen music on (whe did not have a cd player at home)
Later on i bought a cd walkman and began to collect queen cd's. By the time i was 11 i heard them all. Off course in 1995 made in heaven was released. It was the first real queen relaese i noticed. I was 12 years old. I went to london with my morther and bought the Made In Heaven lp on black vinyl and also a couple of cd singles and videos. That's when i began collecting. At the age of 14 i visited a record fair for the first time (Utrecht Jaarbeurs) I was hooked at collecting!
In 1998 i was 15 and saw Brian May in concert in Utrecht. I remeber Brian saying: 'Now it's for some very old songs don't you think?' And he did what i was hoping for: playing queen songs like I want it all, the show must go on and even No one but you (the last real queen song IMO)It was one of the best nights of my life...
After the concert had ended, i met a guy who had recorded it but would not copy it for me. It took me nearly 2 years to get it. In the mean time i began collecting bootlegs and swap them.
Off course there are some more memories (the queen day concert at museumplein in Amsterdam for example) wich was also great..(first time i saw Roger Taylor perform in concert)
The Freddie Mercury Tribute is my highlight as Ive been a fan since 87 and never saw them live, so the tribute was the closest I ever got. Also seeing Brian in 93 and 98 and meeting Roger in 99.
My best ever Queen related event was the Freddie Tribute on November 24th, 2001 commemorating the 10th anniversary of Freddie's death.
It was my birthday and it was the first time that I met people from Queenzone in real life. Bob The Shrek had found a pub in the neighbourhood with the fantastic name "Cock's Tavern" and we had arranged to meet there prior to the concert. I never had expected that a group of people who had nothing in common but visiting a noticeboard/chat room would get along so well. They had prepared a birthday card for me and many Queenzone members had sent little messages, drawings and photos for this card. I still have it, it's one of my most cherished pieces of memorabilia.
Apart from meeting my net friends, the most memorable moment must be when Brian and Roger entered the stage to perform with the SAS Band. I will never forget the crowd screaming and yelling when the two came on stage. It was the most emotional audience I ever saw and it was a very special moment. There is a very good review of the concert on the net, written by Queenzoner Taylor-Mayed. You find it on Mr. Scully's SAS Band page link
