Sometimes I find it relaxing to just clear out the rest of the music and listen to John playing. NOT INCLUDING ANOTHER ONE BITES THE DUST OR UNDER PRESSURE(those are way too obvious) Here are my top 5 absolute favorites:
From greatest to least
1) Dragon Attack (the Game)
2) Millionaire Waltz (ADATR)
3) You're my best Friend (ANATO)
4) Bicycle Race (Jazz)
5) The Prophet's Song (ANATO)
If you haven't ever payed attention to these parts, I reccomend going back and listening again!
Dragon Attack, Sleeping on the Sidewalk, A Kind of Magic, Good Old Fashioned Lover Boy, '39, Love of My Life and finally We are the Champions (at about 0:45). I love Deaky.
Oh yes, welcome to QZ Awesome-0_4000! I strongly suggest to be very careful with your topics and responses, but especially your topics cos of all the people out to get fresh newbie blood. Enjoy your stay! : )
A kind of Magic wins hands down every time for me!
Just you and I
Liar
Breakthru
The Invisible man
The guy is a genious. It was nice to see him getting a mention in the Guitarist Magazine Bass special last month, but guess what songs they mentioned!
I'm sure you all know!
'39 ranks high for me. Others include Millionare Waltz, Dragon Attack, Sail Away Sweet Sister (the end), The Invisible Man (as corny as it sounds), The Show Must Go On, and Crazy Litte Thing Called Love. He really rocked on Procession...kidding.
Among all the wonderful ones you mentioned,my favourite John bass line is the intro of "The millionaire waltz".By the way, this song is pure Freddie genius, the synthesis of Queen of the 70's!
It doesn't rate with his 70s work, but one that stands out for me is the original version of 'My Life Has Been Saved'. Perhaps it's because I didn't hear it until a couple of years after MIH was released. Or because of the chance to compare two different but superb versions.
Never gets a mention, so I thought I'd do so. And besides, the original deserved better than a nonalbum B side, and would have fit perfectly between 'Scandal' and 'Was It All Worth It' on the LP.

Definitely Long Away!!! Btw, does anybody know if it is by John or by Brian?
And there are of course many other pearls of John in the seventies...
And I also like a lot the bass in These Are The Days Of Our Lives, it's simple but great!

Agree with you on Long Away. Not at all easy to play either.
I'm pretty sure that bass part was played by John. In the LP liner notes, if there are any exceptions to the norm in who is playing what, it's noted at the end of each lyric. No such exception noted in the liner notes.
I can't remember what I picked last time.. I think I said something about 'Staying Power' and joked because it's a synth loop or something.
John is definitely a finger-licking-good bassist.
Edit: I'll go with A Kind Of Magic as well.... 'Liar' being the other obvious one for me.

Definitely - as a learner of the bass myself, it is by far the most complex and accompanies the rest of the music perfectly.
A close second to "Deep Ridge"
