.... did any one else feel awkward or embarrassed afer about 3 minutes of a Brian guitar solo???? (Although it did give you time to grab a beer or have a slash!!!) :o) |
GonnaUseMyPrisoners 21.09.2004 18:32 |
At the risk of sounding Stepford, NO. And I never felt that way during Freddie's vocal improv, either. On the contrary, it was like taking a master class in musicianship. In either case you got to witness a true master exercise their craft & win over the audience. Not trying to offend, but I'm truly sorry if you don't feel the same way & (seriously) hope you don't suffer from ADD. |

When I watched with my family, no. when I watched with the guests from far away and they said "when is this gonna end?", no, actually. But When I watch alone, yes, sometimes. |

What three minutes is this then.? You can do better,? I doubt it very much.......... |

Brian May's guitar solos were absolutely brilliant!!! You don't play guitar do you? Cause if you did, you would SERIOSLY have an appreciation for the skills it takes to do that. (Ok, ok, I'll admit he COULD have branched out more to appeal to the more GENERAL audience) Actually, did you time Brighton Rock or something? Cause usually they're LONGER than three minutes =) |

Awesome-O _4000 wrote: Actually, did you time Brighton Rock or something? Cause usually they're LONGER than three minutes =)I know that they are considerably longer than 3 minutes you knob!! What I'm saying is that to begin with everyone is into it, then after that the audience starts to get a bit restless. |
Regor 22.09.2004 05:02 |
Well I've just experienced it once in a concert (Duesseldorf '93) and knowing it from several bootlegs and of course Live Killers it actually seemed a bit repetative, but not boring. He tends to use the same kind of hooklines as a frame - but it's still fascinating, because around that there are always some surprises. I once played the last bit of the solo from Wembley '86 (the quiet part just before Now I'm here begins)to my father, who is an organist and conductor. He was very impressed as it sounded like a classical fuga to him, of course created by the echoplex where the overlapping notes create interesting harmonies. I always like the solo a lot, but when I play it to other people they usually get bored within the mentioned three minutes... ;-) And I'm a newbie by the way - hi everyone ! |

Hi Regor and welcome.... It's all about opinions and maybe I'm in the minority :0| |
Pim Derks 22.09.2004 06:54 |
I usually skip it when I listen to concerts, but when I saw Brian do it live in 1998 it could've lasted all night if it was up to me :) |
Mr. Scully 22.09.2004 07:57 |
I usually skip Brian's solos when I listen to live audio recordings but everytime I decide to listen to it, it amazes me again and again. For example a couple days ago I listened to Edinburgh 1.6.1982 and the 'I Go Crazy' solo in it is superb. It's NEVER annoying or boring. |
Penis - Vagina 22.09.2004 11:36 |
I get a little bored with Roger's timpani solo whenever I watch 'We Will Rock You' ;) |
Brianmay1975 22.09.2004 11:57 |
The first time I heard Brian's guitar solo on Brighton Rock was on the Live Killers LP. And I must admitt I got very seriously bored (at that time, I was a newbie and I didn't like pretty much the studio version for Brighton Rock either). So I used to skip the solo... till one day, when I was doing my homework for school, I came to listen to it accidentally and man it was so fine!!! I've said to myself: hey this is good and I've fallen in love with it. As a result, I began to like also the studio version... So the answer is: no, I never feel embarrassed or bored. My only objection is that the solo isn't that long :)... And I love the Hammersmith'75 and the Wembley'86 solos (but not only these versions, course...). |
Brian_Mays_Wig 22.09.2004 12:15 |
I think the Live Killers one is great but to be honest I usually skip it too. I remember Tony Iommi doing a similar thing at a Sabbath gig in 99 and I was awstruck. It was the best guitar solo Id ever heard live. But probably cos it was new to me, I was used to hearing the Brighton Rock thing. I know Roger wasnt too keen on it! |
Gunpowder Gelatine 22.09.2004 12:18 |
His solos are amazing, but honestly, I do tend to skip them when I'm listening to a concert instead of watching it. |

I don't understand how anyone could feel embarrassed by Brian May's guitar playing. It's what he liked to do in concert, and did very well at that. I saw Queen 14 times, and not once did he play the exact solo as the times before. He always had a fresh approach to it. Sometimes they started off similarly, but he always showed me some of his real talent with his solos. If anyone would have asked me when it was going to end, I would have told him/her to shut up, and then not invite him/her to anymore Queen concerts. And this has nothing to do with stepford or any other crap. He's awesome! On a related note, I agree with the person who mentioned Roger's tympani solos dragged a bit. |
BrianRules 22.09.2004 12:28 |
There, you're enlightened!!!! |

Rogers timpani solos dragged a bit cos people got bored, Roger got bored. Thats why he jacked them in. |

Isn't it Roger even mentioned that drum solos were so cliche? He added that when drum solos were on, people went to get a hot dog or something... |

From one 'newbie' to another - what planet are you fromj? Rog's drum solos better than Brian's guitar solos...I don't think so. Bite your tongue child. |

He was impressed, I was impressed too - but I certainly was more impressed by Brian's. |

I love Brighton Rock as a Fan and a guitarist. By the way...it did make millions of dollars in concert revenues...right?? |
