Hello all. As a new member to the queenzone, I'd like to say hi to you all and at the same time ask a question regarding John Deacon. Everytime theres an interview with the serviving members of the Queen on TV or on a dvd special feature, it's Roger Taylor and Brian May that's on, never JD. Why is that? is he not in good terms with the others or what is the reason behind it? I hope you guys could help me out, because I dare not say i'm the greatest Queen fan but I do love them very much with all my heart. Thanks!
He's doing a Ringo. He's not a singer so he couldnt do a solo album could he? But he should come out and do some interviews. We miss you John. I wouldnt mind hearing what he thinks of some things (The Musical for one). But I guess he has made his choice. JOHN STILL RULES THOUGH!!!!!!
Drs. DAJA wrote: Well to be quit honest this is now the official number one newbie question, the first thing he asks immediatly is what there is with Deacon.
No, sorry, Drs. DAJA, the official number one newbie question is: "Is it true BoRhap is about AIDS?"

After the Freddie Mercury tribute concert John retired, he took time for his 6 children and his wife.
Another opinion I'll have to disagree with. John worked on No One But You and that was in '97. And he also gave a little bit of help to Brian and Roger on their first solo albums (on some tracks, I don't remember exactly which ones). And yes, he played bass on TSMGO in 1997. Since this was under the name of Queen, it means he hadn't retired yet. He also gave an interview (around '95) for VH1's Legends Queen. Besides that, he never retired in an official way. The truth is we don't know what's up with John right now. We can only guee, that's it...
Btw, T84K, welcome on this board and have a good time!
Apparently, John wrote Brian and Roger a letter in 1997 saying that he didn't feel like working as Queen anymore, but that he was ok with them using the name and that he'd support anything they did.
Before that, John worked on Made In Heaven from 1993-1995. In 1996 he did some remixing (one track which we know of is There Must Be More To Life Than This, which probably was meant to be on the FM boxset, which at that point was already announced if I'm not mistaken). In 1997 he worked with B+R on No-One But You and he also did some session work with the SAS Band for their 'That's The Way God Planned It' cover.
After that he basically retired. I doubt we'll ever see a follow-up to his 'Man From The Shadows' debut. There are rumours however, that John IS in fact working on a new solo-album, to be released next spring....

You mean the Ringo who had some big hits after some famous band quit, and didn't stop for years after that (as a singer that is, of course)?

Not a very nice welcome to a new person on this board I think.
John Deacon also was in the audience during the World Premiere of the WWRY musical in London, on May 14th 2002.
Meaning that he shortly stepped out of the shadow for one night. He did bring his shadow along though, because he almost came and went unnoticed for the public.

Really -- we're not being terrific. So hi, and thanks for asking a relatively good question. :)

It amazes me how he can easily come and go unseen. The shadow thing is terrific. I need one of those ...
is that what he does? He is said to have given Brian and Roger a free hand in doing with the Queen-repertoire whatever they want, so it seems to me that he agrees to the covers, the musical and the rest.
And since it's their repertoire, they have every right to do so.
"John Deacon deserves a statue for letting the queen songs in their value"
It's so funny how a person suddenly gets a respect for doing nothing.
Let's fully respect John's decision to retire in 1992 but please, don't come with this "hero" bullshit again and again. He hasn't retired "to keep Queen legacy" or anything like that. He has retired and left the music world just to have a rest.
