I had my tonsils removed when I was was five years old. Apart from the fact that I was scared silly, I don't remember much but I never had an angina in my life, so I suppose it was worth the trouble. I think an adult person should only have that surgery in case of chronical illness.
I think it's a good idea to get rid of the things if possible. They just sit there collecting nasty food particles and stuff which produce something called tonsiliths. These are the little smelly things you sometimes cough up. They can cause bad breath, swelling and pain when they're in there.
Depends what age you are. The older you are the worse it is. I asked to have mine removed 3 years ago but my doctor wouldnt allow me to have it done. He made the operation sound quite serious, and told me that in time I would grow out of it. Touch wood he was right Ive never had it since.
I know someone who has had it done and they said it felt as if they had swallowed barbed wire.
So I would say talk to your doctor.
