You sure have a big mouth, Breanna. Perhaps you should wait a little, practise your spelling, learn some more about respect, and then come back and try to talk to us. Life will teach you some manners one way or the other. You can count on that. |
Gunpowder Gelatine 10.08.2004 16:55 |
Breanna, go read a book. They're good for you. Or go listen to a CD. Or watch TV. Or something constructive, other than spamming the boards. |
Music Man 10.08.2004 17:08 |
I hate reading fiction. Give me the non-fiction (I wish they had a better name for this category); if I want a story I would watch television or go see a movie, reading is such a burden...especially when you have a computer, musical instrument, etc. in your midst. I resent people saying that reading makes you smarter or better or more capable...and then wanting me to read to meet their expectations. Forced reading is probably my number one vexation. |
Gunpowder Gelatine 10.08.2004 17:19 |
I've always loved reading, but I love to write even more. I don't know, I guess it's just something about being able to be somewhere else, just for a little while. |
Music Man 10.08.2004 17:43 |
Writing is great. Reading can be, although I find it tends to not be. I think though that I am really agitated at this summer reading idea. |
Gunpowder Gelatine 10.08.2004 17:44 |
I hate required reading, too, just because I hate to be forced to be interested in a book if I'm not. But for some reason, we don't have any required reading over the summer, which I'm fine with! |
Music Man 10.08.2004 17:45 |
Lucky you. Even good books are hard to enjoy with a deadline and an exam. |
deleted user 10.08.2004 17:56 |
I think reading does make you smarter...and it certainly broadens a person's knowledge. ;^p Growing up, I hated reading, too. But then I started a wonderful thing called a "reading list." I will stop before you *really* see what a nerd I can be. *edit* Glad you got the goodies, Dan! :^) |

But for some reason, we don't have any required reading over the summer, which I'm fine with!I can sympathise- last year we had to read "To Kill A Mockingbird" which, although a good book, was very difficult to understand when you are rushed through (and made to skip) several chapters that I believe are important. If I'd read it at my own pace, I think I would have understood it a lot better. I'm trying to re-read it now. Although it has good morals, I don't think I would have read it if we hadn't been "forced" to at school. However, sometimes "required reading" can be good- last summer we were asked to read Jane Eyre and I found I really liked it. :) |
