I recall something being done last year, a write-in campaign for a proposed (long-overdue) knighthood for Brian May.
I say, if people like Paul McCartney, Mick Jagger and even Bob Geldof can get one, it's about damned time that Brian May be considered as well.
All the accomplishments, all the accolades, charity work, etc -- it's TIME.
With whom does one get in touch with? QIFC? Brian's website? The Queen??
but on the other hand it doesn't mean much coming from a Stepford
Anyway, i also think that Brian deserves one, with all the fighting he did against Aids. And his work for the Bone Marrow Appeal and all the other charity funds and so on.
Our local Chicago suburban paper ran an Associated Press article today where a British Parlimentary committee (the Public Administration Select Committee) said that "the age of chivalry is dead, and Queen Elizabeth II should stop making sirs and dames of everyone from rock stars to civil servants."
Will the world end if Brian does not get knighted?
I mean, knighthood certainly is a joke if Mick Jaggar can get knighted.
Never mind a knighthood, an OBE would be a start.
If hair-lipped Cockney twat Jamie Oliver can get one for making omelettes, surely the boys deserve a nod.
Unfortuntely Brandon, H Norman Schwartzkopf has beaten you to it, amongst others. There are plenty of non British & Commonwealth citizens who have received an 'honorary' Knighthood.
If only you had posted this earlier - my Mum was at a Buckingham Palace garden party on Tuesday this week (her and her sister's work for charity), she could have had a word with the Queen about it. And she didn't steal an ashtray as a momento......
TQ, how could getting knighted make him look bad? Personally, I think it's still good to have this tradition. And does ending it mean saying goodbye to the OBE etc. stuff? If so, then it definitely needs to stay.
Peace,
Adam.
When The Beatles were awarded their MBEs, a lot returned theirs in protest...then, five years later, John Lennon sent his back in protest of "Cold Turkey" slipping down the charts.
Brian should have a shot at being nominated. It's far from having a star on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame, this is recognition in his home country. It's time he should get something for his contributions to charity and most of all to music.
(If The Beatles got the MBE for music, then Brian and hopefully the other members of Queen stand at least a chance!)
(Sir Bob Geldof indeed!!)

Jamie Oliver??? Hey, I love that guy. For New Years we had that pork tenderloin stuffed with peaches and bacon and butter and other junk for dinner.

the title Sir Brian May has a certain royalty ring to it :)
I've had a bet going with another 'Zoner since 2001 that Brian will not be knighted within the next ten years.
No one's ever noticed he existed before, why should they start now?
Not to say I don't think he deserves it, but I'm pessimistic about whether it'll happen.
so let's at least wait till 2011, so that I can get 50 bucks.
as much as its an honour to most, why do i think brian might join the 'cool' list of celebs who turned it down? hed prob say something like 'i havent really earnt it, i just had to do the aids stuff to help people, as another human being'. or, more commedically, 'ill only accept it if you give me bezzie mate rog one as well! :P'
Geeks, the way things are going, looks like you'll be winning!!

we should all nominate him. at least 5 people have to, and the more that do nominate him the better chance he will have. If you are going to send in the form, post your REAL NAME in this topic b/c people filling out the nomination form need to list the names of 5 people who are also going to send in nomination forms. To nominate you can be from ANY country!
This site has nomination forms and more information link
Lady, what do you mean by 'even Bob Geldof'??? That bloke absolutely deserves everything he gets. He was Sir Bob before he was Sir Bob!!
Now Mick Jagger - that pissed me off.
Brian, Roger and John all deserve sir, although id be suprised If Roger ever accepted anything....just like Hank Marvin.
