I've just finnished one of my assignment's now the other one is a speach (Speaking exam if you wish) I don't know what to give a speech on, I really need help with this, I need it done by next week, what are your interests?
Here's a topic I will give you an idea for: The American degrading of dubbed Japanese Anime shows (why are Americans lazy and horrible when it comes to translating shows?!)
"Today's pressure to "LIVE""
- People feel a pressure to experience a lot, in a short time, while still young. Jump in parachut, do stunts, party a lot, get very drunk, sleep with many... Bah. Why can't I just sit with my cup of tea in peace? But I can't, I start feeling something close to guilt because I don't LIVE the way media and other people expect me to.
- Or you can focus on how many just focus on getting a good life, never getting it. Working hard to get money, getting the big house, the boat, the cottage, yet their life-quality is just drained out of them and they're all depressed.
"Women's Rights" "Gay's Rights" or, to be original "Men's Rights". To get back in time: "Blacks' Rights", etc.
- This needs no explanation.
"The Media Today"
- How the media influences us in ways that can be bad/good. What the media does, why it is so important today, blah blah blah.
"Music - the same as before?"
- Is the music youth listen to today worth as much as the music from earlier? Do the songs stay with them, or are all these new bands popping up and then disappearing during a couple of weeks? There ARE two sides of this case.
There are lots more along these lines if this is what you meant. However you mentioned hobbies, and in that case I have failed to understand what you asked for. Anyways, if you can use any of this, good. :-)
Chaz, I think you should focus on something that it's an importance around your country or community.
Silje has posted interesting suggestions.
Dark suggestion is good as well. I have done essays on Japanimation (anime), and its the terrible editing job Canadian and American dubbing companies have done in the past. I've done this tying it to the 'ban' of the homosexual relationships that some Anime characters have in a certain series. A good example of this is the dubbed version of 'Sailor Moon S', in which appears two lesbian Sailor Soldiers (Sailor Neptune and Sailor Uranus). In the Japanese version is was left as it was, although it was hinted, but Neptune and Uranus never shared a kiss nor any love scenes. In the American version, they were labeled as cousins, in order to appease 'family viewers'.
Last year, I did a research paper about Slash Fan Fiction, and why women love to write fan fiction about two male fictional or non fictional singers, actors, characters of said series or band engaging in a homosexual relationship. This type of Fan Fiction is pretty popular on the Internet, and among women. Some of them are nice and all about love, but some are about hot steamy sex. Of course, there are people that see this as perverted, or an as excuse for poor taste. Still it is quite popular genre in writing nowadays. I'd like to continue with further research on this. Oh, and I got an A on paper :P I did about 40+ pages. Apparently my professor, whom I think is Bisexual, really liked it. LOL
Another that I can recommend is Globalisation. Some people view this as the 'Americanisation' of the world, in which cultures are increasingly becoming more 'American'. Others view this as a 'step forward' into a one world democratical government, and the advance of techonology.
