I have started collected LP's recently and I want to collect the single on vinyl aswell, but I see they are available on 7" and 12". So is there any difference between them other than the size?
Thanks!!!
Yes - most of the 12" singles have a longer version of the track - most of the time more and longer instrumental parts. Besides that - 12" singles are a lot cooler then those tiny 7" singles :-)
Don't know the difference between 7 inches and 12 inches?
Pop over to Flashy's and I'll demonstrate it for you.
Errmm... you are a bird, aren't you?
In terms of singles: think of the 12" as a 7" in extended play. They tend to feature bonus bits which, on the whole, turn out to be totally unnecessary.
Here are lists of Queen 12 inch singles: link
The first list are extended.. that is, they differ from the album mixes. Except for "I Want It All" which is in the wrong list there. "Innuendo" is only different in that it has about 15 seconds of explosion sound at the end. Where in that list they note (7") this means the 7 inch single version is included as a B-side.
The next list are 12 inch singles that just contain the regular versions.
The biggest advantage aside from longer versions is the ones with picture covers are obviously bigger, but many promo/club 12 inch singles just had plain covers with a hole showing the label. Some run at 33&1/3 LP speed, others at 45 just like 7 inch.
But CDs are smaller, does that mean they have less on them?
What about picture discs? are they just blank? DO shaped ones have specially recorded music with gaps in for when the stylus goes round the outside of the shape?
Has anyone tried playing a sleeve?
Why won't cassettes fit on my turntable?
Come on forever, if you're going to try and provoke a reaction, at least be creative...
