I just saw this movie a few nights ago. I thought it was very good despite the fact that I didn't completely understand it. If you haven't seen it go see it. If you have seen it, what are your opinions and/or theories on it?
Damn, you beat me to it DF.
I don't need to include the link now, but I will reiterate my thoughts:
It instantly entered my top 5 all-time films when I first saw it.
It's absolute genius, yet I find it strangely elusive in some way, as everyone I know that loves it agrees that you can't quite put your finger on exactly why you love it so much, or why it's so good.
It has an almost subliminal, hypnotic, and talismanic appeal to it, which leaves you (or at least me) unable to shake the film from your consciousness for days after viewing it.
You simply won't understand it upon first viewing, and you stil probably won't get it on the second viewing, but this in no way detracts from your enjoyment of the film.
You'll only ever truly start understanding at least some of it if you check the extras on the DVD (The Philosophy Of Time Travel book, and Richard Kelly/Jake Gyllenhaal's commentary) or the website. Even then, what's so good about the film and keeps you debating it and coming back for more is that there is no one answer to it, and due to the paradoxical nature of time travel there will always be facets of the film that don't quite add up.
Everyone should see this film, truly.
Oh, and I despise the fact that Gary Jules' sublime version of Mad World has become so mainstream. That song should only exist as an undiscovered treat at the end of the film.
The constant play of the song everywhere now has stripped the song of it's unique and delicate charm.
"Oh, please, tell me Elizabeth, how exactly does one suck a fuck?"
I tried the search too.. no luck. I just set the forum to 30 days and searched the page for 'darko' since I remembered it. LOL
I've wondered about the search myself.. I've tried stuff that was current and exactly entered and it still shows no matches most of the time.
the song at the end is Mad World by Tears for Fears or the cover by someone else who's name escapes me at the moment."
The cover of that song, that's curently in the charts is:
"Michael Andrews ft. Gary Jules - Mad World"
The only way the search function works on this site is searching for posts by member name.
And you have to type the name exactly, so if you search for example "Deacon Fan" it won't find anything, because you need to include (I suppose) the html script that gives the different colour in DF's name.
