Hello. Sadly, with the recent passing away of the fabulous Michael Kamen, I think it's up to QUEEN Productions to make the necessary arrangements for the issue of the long long awaited HIGHLANDER ORIGINAL SOUNDTRACK album. Such release should comprise the original versions of the QUEEN songs (later included 'in different form' in the A KIND OF MAGIC album from 1986) as well as Kamen's own compositions for the movie (which already feature in several compilations), plus some unreleased orchestral and incidental music (e.g: the backing for the highlands battle scene) and, hopefully, a few outtakes (unless they are keeping them for the also long awaited QUEEN box sets). ...Not to mention a booklet full of nice pictures of the group members and Kamen working in the project. My guess is that a HIGHLANDER SOUNDTRACK album will appeal to both the band and the saga fans, which felt ripped-off when the last HIGLANDER reissue ('The Immortal Edition' DVD, well-done and nicely packed with a 'QUEEN Companion CD') didn't include the prematurely announced isolated soundtrack. But such an album won't be a dream come true to fans only. Kamen himself wanted this to be a reality. Even Brian May states in a recent interview that he's looking forward for a 'proper' release too! What WE need to make it happen: - A massive e-mail campaign: It can start with YOU sending an e-mail to releases@queenonline.com NOW supporting the issue with your ideas and wishes. Please feel free to use parts of the message above. - People in contact with HIGHLANDER and Kamen fans, to spread the word and share points of view. - Online presence: Pages hosted on well-known websites of the QUEEN/HIGHLANDER/Kamen community and/or perhaps a site of its own. Links everywhere to them. Nice banners for the links. - Your input (expectations, desires, ideas, actions, etc.). What do you think? Write me at: wilkiamieva@fibertel.com.ar. Cheers! P.S: Sorry for the typo on the topic. (I guess I started it all wrong;-) |

Can't we have a "Realease the box sets" campaign first? Please? |
Wilki Amieva 30.11.2003 20:56 |
The box sets WILL be issued ...sometime in the near ...distant future, so there's no need for a campaign to release them. Barry_UK: I don't understand what you mean. |
Saint Jiub 30.11.2003 23:25 |
I would also prefer a campaign for the box sets well before the Highlander Soundtrack. Make sure you insult Brian when you e-mail him concerning the soundtrack - you will be sure to get maximum effect and a personal response ... |
bleeding heart show 30.11.2003 23:35 |
what new songs is this soundtrack going to introduce?? can't think of any beside New york??!! By the way the movie was BULL SHIT imo. I vote for the boxset aswell. |
Fenderek 01.12.2003 03:34 |
< ARE YOU JOKING...????!?!!!!?????!!!! If yes- LMAO If you're serious however- well........ |

I sign both the petitions! |
Voice of Reason 2018 01.12.2003 07:57 |
But there's a soundtrack available (including New York, New York). It turns up on eBay regularly. |
Fenderek 01.12.2003 08:36 |
It's a bootleg |
Penetration_Guru 01.12.2003 09:24 |
The content is the same. If anyone can point me to the bootleg that contains the first box set, I'll change my opinion |
Saffron Caribou 01.12.2003 09:30 |
I retract wha I said...dont send Brimi an email. He's depressed :( poor guy |

I'd rather have an ultimate Highlander album within a year than the rarities boxset in a about... 3 years? It's not as if such a Highlander project would postpone the boxset for a significant amount of years... adding less than a year to the eventual release date of the boxset won't matter much, it's still going to take years. IMHO this soundtrack album would be great. The score is ace (the movie too btw) and deserves an official release, not that puny bootleg. Kamen's score for Highlander, combined with Queen's music, is widely considered one of the best soundtracks in the fantasy/adventure film genre, so they would be pleasing more than just Queen-fans with this. |

Hi. Why are you some of you so weird? This is not a case of 'voting' for a 'petition'. I'm just asking for you to collaborate in an e-mail campaign. If somebody wants to start another one for the box sets, be my guest. In fact, I'll take part on it. Strange it is that everytime someone says something constructive it always gets more negative responses than positive ones. Sometimes this forum really annoys me! The box sets series WILL be issued. It's not happening tomorrow, that's for sure. It's a massive release, so it should take time. Besides, QUEEN input is vital for it and, as you know, the band is involved in more 'urgent' projects (like 46664 and spreading the musical all over the world, not to mention the PEPSI commercial ;-). And don't forget that there's always pressure from their record labels to reach the market with wide-appeal products (like The DVD Collection and the DVD-As), which also require time from the group (not only in production but also in promotion). In contrast, the HIGHLANDER ORIGINAL SOUNDTRACK won't be happen if we don't rise, if we don't fight for it. Kamen is no more with us. And it's an album that shouldn't demand much time from the band. OK, it's not wide-appeal, but QUEEN+HIGHLANDER+Kamen fans aren't just a few, are they? For the ones who are asking, this soundtrack may contain: 01. Princes Of The Universe 02. The Highlander Theme 03. Under The Garden / The Prize 04. Field Of Battle [featuring QUEEN, don't know the real title] 05. Gimme The Prize (Kurgan's Theme) 06. One Year Of Love 07. Clash Of Steel [featuring QUEEN, don't know the real title] 08. Heather [don't know the real title] 09. Ramirez [don't know the real title] 10. One Year Of Love (piano version) 11. Who Wants To Live Forever? 12. Hammer To Fall 13. Alley Fight [featuring QUEEN, don't know the real title] 14. Don't Lose Your Head 15. The Quickening 16. Rachel's Surprise / Who Wants To Live Forever 17. A Dozen Red Roses For My Darling / New York 18. Swordfight At 34th Street 19. There Can Be Only One 20. A Kind Of Magic All versions obviously from the film, but in full lenght and with the actor speeches, background sound and ambient effects mainly removed - those you won't find in bootlegs (at least complete and without those noisy artifacts). 'Extra highlands ingredients' (yes, just more wishful thinking): 21. A Dozen Red Roses For My Darling (extended version) 22. Forever 23. Princes Of The Universe (guitar version from the TV series end titles) 24. There Can Be Only One (from Michael Kamen's OPUS) 25. One Year Of Love (extended version) And perhaps a few instrumentals of the movie versions. |

i wish they would do it |
Penetration_Guru 01.12.2003 17:25 |
Yes I'm weird, but it's not negatively intentioned, I assure you. The box sets have already taken three years and there is still no sign of release. The Highlander music has been released. It's on the DVD, the VHS, and a CD bootleg. That's the reason why I felt, in my opinion, that my own, personal preference, would be that the Box set would be ahead of Highlander on my personal list. And the promotion for the DVDs and DVD-As has so far consisted of......... Half an hour recording a TV ad. |
Daburcor? 01.12.2003 17:33 |
I would MUCH rather have the Box sets. Though I'd like the Highlande soundtrack as well. ;) |
Flashman 01.12.2003 17:49 |
Instead of sitting around talking about it, why don't we just make our own? I'll do the high bits in 'One Year Of Love'. You'll cry your eyes out. |
Spisso 01.12.2003 19:03 |
LOL |
Wilki Amieva 02.12.2003 11:24 |
P_G, I'm quoting myself for you to read (again): 'All versions obviously from the film, but in full lenght and with the actor speeches, background sound and ambient effects mainly removed - those you won't find in bootlegs (at least complete and without those noisy artifacts)'. There's no need to say that you won't find the music in this form on HIGHLANDER VHSs or DVDs. (Have you heard HIGHLANDER's version of A Kind Of Magic somewhere in the new LIVE AT WEMBLEY DVD? It's not the same as in the film. Is it extended? Not really, it was edited for the film. I expect those original versions, the 'unedited' ones. They have them, I know this for sure). And if you think that the time that QUEEN have spent in the promotion of their recent products is just half an hour... well... forget about it, OK? Or are you going to make a point on them not being busy? |
Penetration_Guru 02.12.2003 11:42 |
Oh Godddddddddddddddddddddddddd Look, I'm sorry I messed with your precious fuckin thread. I also apologise for being able to back up my comments with logic. I can't be bothered to respond to you in detail, but let's look at this one bit. Earlier, you said that promotion for the DVDs was a good reaosn for the delay. I pointed out that they hadn't really done any. You now appear to be saying that they're too busy to promote the DVDs. Get your story straight, would you? I'm not actually angry with you, I'm just having a bad day on this board which I used to enjoy. Then again, the board used to enjoy me a litle more too... |
Wilki Amieva 02.12.2003 14:02 |
Firstly, there's no need to be unpolite. This is a nice thread, and I respect your comments (and enjoy them ocasionally in the forum). There was a little misunderstanding, and I'm the one to blame. When I've said: "[...] which ALSO require time from the group (not only in production but also in promotion)" I meant that they're busy with ALL their recent stuff (spreading the musical, the 46664 project and ALSO the DVDs). By the way, in my last message I'm NOT saying that they were too busy to promote the DVDs, I'm just asking if you really think that they've spent little time in promotion of their recent products (which include the musical, the releases and, well, 46664). P_G, I'm not angry with you either. I'd love the box sets to be released as much as you. And I love logic too, so don't try to get me into any fallacy. ;-) Have you read Sokal's 'Impostures Intellectuelles'? |
Arnaldo "Ogre-" Silveira 02.12.2003 18:42 |
Hey, Wilki! I support your initiative, and thank you for that. Should somebody else open another thread for another good petition, I'd most probabley sign it as well. And I also share your view that the ambient in this board should be lighter. Cheers, Ogre- |
Wilki Amieva 03.12.2003 07:42 |
Thanks, Ogre! |

Surprised when movie was re-released "20 anniversary" ( I think ) the record company handling the soundtrack missed the boat. Could have made millions ( and millions ) The closest thing we have to a soundtrack is the MAGIC album. The ending credits "magic" version is different from the album version. Was this version done first, then re-done for the studio release. |
Penis - Vagina 11.03.2004 14:12 |
Hi johnny. Yes, the version you hear during the end credits is Roger's original idea for the song. The story goes that he was away somewhere and Freddie had the idea to make some changes and Roger I guess approved (or couldn't win the argument maybe!) so it was reworked for the album. There is a longer version of the original played in the background of the photo gallery on the official 2 disc Wembley DVD. |
