Is it just me or is this guy (or the person who writes his songs) copying lots of melodies and tunes from other artists. The two most clear examples of this are Supreme and Sexed Up. Supreme has many parts that sound very close to Gloria Gaynor's I Will Survive and Sexed Up has a part that sounds exactly like Jon Bon Jovi's Janie Don't You Take Your Love To Town. In my opinion Robbie is just a "copy cat" who is copying everything from the latest decades. Parts of his stage performance are similar to Freddie Mercury's, parts are to Frank Sinatras. His songs "borrow" lots from older songs. |

Wow, another "highly intelligent" Robbie bashing thread appears to be popping up from the usual suspects.... y-a-w-n z z z PS. the term is sampling, remember this gay group Queen who stole Chic's 'Good Times' to create their hit single "Another Fan Is A Stepford...." |
Guy 23.11.2003 13:12 |
Give me a break, he paid Gaynor lots of money in order to use that sample. Don't let the facts confuse you... |

"Parts of his stage performance are similar to Freddie Mercury's" Most of his stage performance is similar to Freddie's. I went to see him live last summer and most of the time I was thinking "just like Freddie". I like Robbie but that annoys me. He once said "I should front Queen". I wonder if he thinks he can be a sort of "second Freddie Mercury"... Not the best singer/entertainer in the world could ever be like Fred. |
Fenderek 23.11.2003 15:13 |
Did he say"I should front Queen"? If yes- he's bigger dick than I thought... If he likes Queen,he shouldn't... |

Best entertainer in the world. If any of you can name a better one, then fucking do it. Don't slag someone off for making a living. Nobody who's shit sells out three nights at Knebworth to 150,000 people. Simple fact. |

"Best entertainer in the world. If any of you can name a better one, then fucking do it" Mick Jagger - been doing it WORLDWIDE for forty years (as opposed to Europe-wide) Another news flash - 'stealing' other people's melodies has been going on for years, so once more Mr Blobby isn't doing anything original. :-) |

People people chill wid da criticism lol! Robbie consider himself as just a normal person he quotes in da Knebworth joint "in the end am just as good as all of you"... or something like that, and I know he doesnt see himself as any kind of genius he has studied the art of Freddie, Sinatra and so on.. and in his heart he knows that THEY are genius, thats why he wanna brush a little of their greatness. . . how?... of course not try to get up to grade 8 or woteva on the piano Like Freddie, or just write swing songs for his entire carreer and where a bow tie in every show no no no, like any of us humans right here, we brush of a little of THEIR greatness by singing THERE songs, act LIKE them, dance LIKE them, and fly to Knebworth on a helicopter LIKE him!Its no big deal I just say in my head ""awwww. . bess his lil cotton sox"" Robbie doin alright I tell you! |

Robbie Williams steals no more than Queen did in their early days. Everyone's got to start somewhere, n'est pas? If anyone could look me in the eye and tell me that "Son and Daughter" (to name but one) isn't a Led Zeppelin B-side just waiting to happen, I'd be amazed. He's always said anyway that he nicks the best bits of other people's songs and uses them. Guy Chambers once said "Robbie's never pretended to be the most original artist in the world, but there's a strong argument to say he's the most entertaining". End of story as far as I'm concerned. Don't "big up" any posses, don't give me that Mick Jagger stuff-singing for the poor man's Beatles doesn't make you a great entertainer. Doesn't matter if he couldn't fill a car seat in America, he's not American. If he's so crap, how come he sold 90,000 tickets for Murrayfield inside half an hour? How come his Knebworth album sold 120,000 copies in its first week-becoming the fastest selling live album in history? How come his Albert Hall Concert is the fastest/biggest selling music DVD in history? How come Escapology was the biggest selling album of 2002 in Britain when it was only released half-way through November, and he hadn't released a single or appeared on stage for 12 months previous to it? How come he's sold over 30 million albums worldwide? How many other people have had the Christmas No.1 in both album and single charts? How come EMI wanted to sign him so much that they paid him $125 million for 1 album that he'd already recorded, a "best of" package and 2 new albums? It's a lot of money for 28 songs, is that. How many people these days reach album 6, before they've turned 30 and are still going strong? How many people have 13 Brit awards to their name? None, well, except Robbie Williams. How many artists have had 15 singles to into the top 10 in the 6 years since he first released one? I could go on, I really could. Facts speak for themselves-doesn't matter if you like him or not, of course, your opinion is just as valid as anyone else's, but I think it's pushing it to say he's a shite popstar-when he must be really quite good at it to have come out of being a fat drug addict in Take That to keeping 375,000 people happy over 3 nights at Knebworth, wouldn't you think?? FB. |
Whisperer 26.11.2003 15:37 |
"If he's so crap, how come he sold 90,000 tickets for Murrayfield inside half an hour?" Every era has it's own stars. Right now RW is the best crap (best promotion) of a huge load of crap. The majority of young people (those who go to concerts and buy records) are afraid to stand out and from the crowd and listen to something that they like and not what the majority likes. That's why RW sells out 90,000 tickets in 30 minutes. |
inu-liger 26.11.2003 17:59 |
To be honest, although I have only heard him sing "We Are The Champions" (w/ Queen), and WWRY (live), I like his singing. IMO he's much better than the two greatest...or worst...sluts of our times right now, who go by the porn star aliases of Christina Aguilera and Britney (or Bitchney) Spears |

Is untrue isn't it (as a fact). But hey, were all entitled to opinions. Some of us don't confuse opinions with 'facts' :-)" Fair cop. Much as I love Robbie, I can't deny that he doesn't have worldwide appeal-well, he doesn't have American appeal anyway. That's a fact, sadly, and it's also a fact (though not a sad one) that America is part of the world. Although it's only an opinion that Robbie's the best entertainer in the world, just because he doesn't entertain in America, the opinion isn't rendered defunct, or useless. I don't mean to confuse opinion with fact, but that list of things he's achieved are all fact, and they all point to him being quite good, I think. "Always make me smile to see Blobby fans so riled when you dare criticise the boy. Are you all so insecure, deep down you know your being sold a crock of doggy doo-doo don't you." I can't agree with that. I think it's just stepford syndrome creeping in a bit, but that's like saying that people who get pissed off when Queen are dismissed as a gay band are just homophobes in denial. When people criticise Robbie for being a crap singer, I can't understand it, cos I think they must have been listening to someone else's records, and when they say he's an arrogant twat, I suddenly think they must have no sense of humour. I'm not going to pretend that everything he's done has been totally brilliant, far from it, but I do think he's the best that Britain, if not the world, has at the moment-and that's not just cos he's the best of a bad bunch either. Anyhow, it's just opinion. I'm slagging off Jagger for the same reasons, so I suppose I'm just throwing stones from glass houses. I'm sorry that other people don't like Robbie's stuff, or Robbie himself, but that's up to them, and in my opinion, is their loss. But, I'm not them so it doesn't matter. |
Freddie-B 27.11.2003 12:37 |

ogre t raylot 28.11.2003 04:25 |
"Oh, ogre-I must say, I'm glad that, although you don't like Robbie, at least you don't like him because you don't like him." I find him completely average myself, As for RW 'copying Freddie' well by it's nature Pop Music is an canibalistic beast. Newsflash: Nothing and no-one has done anything original for over a century. What a successful artist does is assimilate pop music history and regurgitate it, infusing it with his own personality/slant. It's been going on for decades - To accuse one popular singer of doing it is crass bordering on ignorance. |
