I don't know if anyone has said this before, but I've just discovered that the somewhat peculiar indie band Half Man Half Biscuit have a song called "Hair Like Brian May Blues". It goes as follows:
I woke up about 11
With hair like Brian May
I woke up about 11 (Oooh)
With hair like Brian May
I'm supposed to be the hardest man on the estate
I gotta go down to the river
The one that they call the Tees
I gotta go down to the river (Oooh)
That ol' snake they call the Dee
Lord you gotta let me drown some of those ringlets
They won't see
Oh, I need this situation about as much as I need
The Amoury Show's entire back catalogue
(instrumental)
I haven't got a balaclava
And my good girl, she got no snood
I haven't got a balaclava (Oooh)
And my good girl's got no snood
I take the 20-40 box car
The one that goes to Bute
I take my rope down to the crossroads
To bring my poor heart ease
I hang my rope down at the crossroads
To bring my poor heart ease
At this point, unfortunately, my recording gets cut off, but you get the general message...
Until 5 years ago I looked like a blond version of Brian every single day for about 6 years ;-) (or like a young Robert Plant for that matter).
It's weird looking back on that now I'm starting to go a bit bold ;-)))
Aaaarggggghhhh! That afro was 'orrible.
The best haircut was when he cut it off.
Ps. If my facts are straight, in younger pictures of Brian (as a child) he had totally straight hair, is it possible that someones hair can suddenly go curly? And I'm not saying his curls aren't natural or anything.

yeah that's true, that picture of him with his mum or with his first band his hair wasn't curly at all. But it was very short, maybe it just gets curly when it's long. I think that happens sometimes.
I think John's afro was funny.
Roger's hair was cool when it was longer and Freddie looked better with short hair.
Yeah, I agree. Freddie definitley suited short hair, and the same can be said for John. That long hair just looked too frizzy. I think Roger suited long hair, however his short hairdo was cool too.
I think there is a picture of Brian in his former band 1984 with straight hair, I dunno which suited him better though.
Long hair is cool, but below the shoulders, no way. Luckily none of them except John let it get to that stage, but I'll let him off after all it was the seventies, and he only had it that length for a while (i think?)
It is possible for someone's hair to suddenly turn curly. Mine was as straight as can be until it was about 6 yrs old and it started to curl up on top (everyone thought my mom had permed my hair just on top, haha, oh those were the days) Now i have a full head of curly goodness.

As far as Brian having straight hair as a child, well... he didn't. Can't be arsed to find the links to prove it - but he is on record as saying it's always been curly (potentially not quite as curly as it became later), and that he hated it and tried to straighten it for years until he realised that he had better make peace with it. There we go - mystery explained. :D And for the record, IMHO his hairdo has ALWAYS rocked, most especially in the early 70's when he had it in the thicker curls...
