I never hear anybody say anything bad about 70s Queen (with the possible exception of Jazz) but 80s and 90s Queen seem to be more of a mixed bag. |
mooghead 01.04.2019 06:38 |
OK... What is your point/opinion? |

Depends who you ask, OP |

I have more favorite songs from 80s. |

The 70's saw the band grow, develop and experiment as a four-piece. Everything after that was nothing more than a sop to radio stations and the EMI machine that provided advances and royalties to sustain the band's lifestyles. |
princetom 01.04.2019 19:04 |
@dudeofqueen: you're most probably right. but "innuendo" proved that they would have come to "develop back" to a reasonable band to express. and... YES.. i wished to have heard mor albums of them like... "queen II" or even "a night at the opera". and personally i like "jazz" for the spontaneous songwriting. and what an impact that is... to blow off an album like that... out of the blue. |
dysan 01.04.2019 20:08 |
Yes I like Jazz too, and I think that's one of the correct reasons why I like it - it's 'immediate' and 'spontaneous'. |
killerqueen97 01.04.2019 20:15 |
I was just making an observation. I like all eras of Queen so far (excepting the Q+PR album, as I haven't heard it yet) and have yet to hear a bad song. |

They all have something to offer. |

their 80's music is just as important, that's what settled them as everlasting legends |

As One Year Of Love played in the background, his eyes moved to the red ribbon his sister had planted on his right pectoral muscle. He saw something in her eyes when she touched him. A recognition of firmness. After all, he was toned to perfection from weeks of rebuilding a church in Rokoray, along the northern banks of the Great Scarcies River. He had met a woman there who reminded him of his sister. He cared for her, taught her a fledgling example of English, had even found himself feeling love for her. That was not a sisterly love however. Then again… was this? He began to open his mouth. Any moment his parents would walk downstairs. The look on her face said they were on the same channel. Everything he had just thought, she heard it. He spoke. “Listen, when mom and dad go out to say hi to the Gelsons next door tonight, let’s hang back, go upstairs and fuck the shit out of each other.” “What?” She answered, bewildered. “C’mon let's do it. Let’s fuck. Haven’t we always wanted this?” He reached out to reassure her, but she pulled away, fear in her eyes. “Whoa whoa. Uh no I’m just happy you’re home from Africa. What the hell are you talking about wanting to fuck me? Are you seriou--” And like a blade being hammered on the anvil, his father’s voice rang out from behind him: “WHAT IN SAM HILL IS GOING ON HERE?” “I can explain…” he stammered, but was cut off by the visceral scream from his mother as she began sobbing into her bathrobe. His father erupted, white morning spittle shooting from the corners of his mouth. “NO SON OF MINE IS GONNA LISTEN TO 80S QUEEN!!!!!!” He belted his son in the face, knocking the boy unconscious. “THIS IS A 70S QUEEN HOUSE!” Listen to 70s Queen. |

70s Queen easily better than 80s Queen and more heavier as far as the music goes too. Freddie was more regal and majestic in the 70s too. |
dysan 03.04.2019 07:42 |
Depends what you mean by Heavier. Did thy do anything even close to Gimme The Prize in the 70s? |
dysan 03.04.2019 07:42 |
That said, Queen is about a lot more than being 'heavy'. |
mika251 03.04.2019 09:06 |
I love Queen because of their versatility. It's like having several bands put together. You want to listen to sophisticated lyrics and very very regal music? Pick up something from 70's. You are in a dancy mood? Hot Space is the answer. Interested in poppy songs? Look for something in their 80's stuff. You need to cry your eyes out? Listen to Innuendo. They have music for every opportunity. I listen to different albums in the car and to different when I want to relax in the evening. Who decides what is good and what is not good? If you don't like their 80's albums, just don't listen to it, it is easy, you can still be a faithfull fan of a perfect 70's band :) I went through different stages in my life and different phases of liking Queen's music, I had a period of loving 70's, not so much loving 70's, loving 80's, not so much loving 80's, hating Hot Space, loving Hot Space, loving Hot Space very very much :) And I'm so much grateful that they never repeated themselves /ok sometimes they did but not so often/, because that's why their music is so unique. It can be heavy, it can be poppy, but never boring. |
dysan 03.04.2019 09:28 |
Yep we're all different and experience life differently. We are lucky to have each other and this great band. |
mika251 03.04.2019 09:50 |
IMO in very much depends how old are you actually :) I was born in '86, so I knew and loved 80's Queen at first. And I never considered their 80's music as not so good becuase I didn't know their 70's stuff acutally. So it was simply great music without a doubt. Later I listened to their first albums and I at first thought it's so weird. I loved it, but it was weird. Too complicated. Too heavy. They even looked weird :) It took some time and I got used to it and now I understand why some of their fans are not so fond of their 80's stuff. It is very different and I can imagine how big shock it had to be at that time and I really admit, that while in 80's they were perfect, in 70's they very really extraordinary. But I still love all their phases. That's an advantage of being born in 80's - the last decade of good music :) |
dysan 03.04.2019 10:23 |
Hold up Sexy, that doesn't make sense. I'm sure there are people born in the 00s who only dig 70s stuff. Although of course I do get it on a technicality. When I was a kid GH1 was in my house and that wouldn't have happened if I was 5 years younger or older. A happy coincidence on the journey to Queen enlightenment. Weirdly, the only other record I remember was one by Free - so in a parallel universe somewhere I'm currently a big Paul Rodgers fan and complaining about him selling out with Queen :D |
mika251 03.04.2019 11:40 |
You are right of course. It's only a generalisation of my personal experience. |

The big problem with Queen in the 80's is that Freddie lost his passion for songwriting. His greatest songwriting contribution to Queen in the 80's was "It's a Hard Life". Just listen to the Solo Collection box set for endless throwaway scraps of songs that just went nowhere, he was simply uninspired. It's only when he realised the end was nigh, his songwriting mojo returned. While I think the Miracle is as poor as the other 80's albums, the song "The Miracle" is the beginning of Freddie's songwriting rebirth. |

The miracle(song) has such garbage lyrics, probably on par with many post millennial garbage lyrics in pop music. However the song is a masterpiece due to the music... |
