Love the video - so much more professional than the videos for Fun on Earth. |

NCC1701Q wrote: Love the video - so much more professional than the videos for Fun on Earth.Exactly, although I think the video for "Sunny Day" was more a quickly assembled goodwill gesture towards the fans in order to deliver some visuals for the song. I did apreciate that, at the time. Regarding Journey's End: now, this is a video. Thanks for the effort, uncle Rog. Loved it, but I found the part with the guitars and the concert audience was a little odd and didn't follow the style/theme of the rest of the film. And.... I like the song. Very much. It is a strange piece, yes, not catchy at all, but sounds different, sounds modern. It is simply what Roger had inside, musically speaking, and at least he delivers. This is exactly what I've laways wanted Roger and Brian to do: create and deliver new music, their music. And at least Roger takes the risk and doesn't play safe. Now I was about to criticize Golden Days .... but I pass. This is Journey's End thread. Bravo Roger, well done ! |
soxtalon 05.05.2017 04:45 |
^ Agreed wholeheartedly. It's new music, it's artistic, it's a bit risky - as the press release states an obvious nod to Bowie. Brian has certainly more than earned the right to do what he pleases, but as he plays it safe, it isn't nearly as exciting. Not everyone is going to like this, but I think even those who don't will see the merit in it. Well done - I hope we get to see more diversions from the "mothership" as it were.... |
Togg 05.05.2017 05:09 |
Rather liked it, definately channeling his Bowie, and good to see he still gets his Mrs in the Vids...ha, liked looking at the guitars actually, and maybe the journey was his, so that's why they are there |

For what it's worth, I think this is the most creative thing to come from the "Queen" camp for a very long time... |

Togg wrote: definately channeling his Bowie, (...) liked looking at the guitars actually, and maybe the journey was his, so that's why they are thereAgree. Bowie came to mind during the first listen. And that's somehow what I meant when saying that the sound is modern. Re. the guitars. Yeah, I liked looking at the guitars too ! it's a very cool visual. But then came the concert audience and I immediately thought "hey, where were we? where are we now?". It's just a small detail I wanted to pint out. I love the video and the song. Done tastefully and quite creative. |

Not great, but better than Brian's recent stuff. At least you can tell there's some actual effort put in there. |

Toon_86 05.05.2017 16:10 |
Very different, very Dark Star Bowie. Not too sure on all the walking about though and thought the dancing in the middle went on far too long. Song itself, hmmmmm, its ok, just wish Rog wouldn't try to keep rhyming ever last word in every line together, wouldve preferred it to be more poetry to music than the last word of every line needing to rhyme to the last word of previous line. He seems to have done that since Happiness. Nice change though, better than anything on another album I'd better not mention with a really terrible cover. No originality at all. |
Cruella de Vil 05.05.2017 17:29 |
For a 67 year old rocker, Rog is doing fine. I agree with many that it is refreshing to see new material and some very creative video ideas. The contemplative lyrics hark back to Drowse, TATDOOL. Bravo |
Hitman 05.05.2017 18:00 |
I like this new "idea" from Roger. It's original and totally his style. I think the photography reaches a very high quality, plus music and video are perfectly combined. His look is pure class. An old rocker, indeed. He couldn't care less of attempting to create a hit, nowadays music industry would not give him any airplay, so it's good to focus on his own musical ideas, far from a standard verse+chorus+verse+chorus+solo+chorus scheme people expect. "Everything is broken" was for certain reasons similar to this new experiment: music and personal thoughts flowing together. |
Fireplace 05.05.2017 18:54 |
I have become wary of Queen members suddenly releasing songs with retrospective lyrics. I get the comparison with Bowie's Black Star, but I also remember what happened three days later. This does not bode well. |

Nice video and interesting song. I hope the song is not very personal because it sounds quite sad. |

Excellent track and very atmospheric video... It'll be very nice to receive an album from Roger with such sound/arrangement. |

It is great that Roger is still creating and recording new stuff. Very nice use of electronics, in the vein of some recent indie or alternative artists, but with his unique touch. It is a shame that, apparently, Brian and Roger do not plan to record together anytime soon. By the way, I saw a recent Adam Lambert interview somewhere on Facebook, where he mentions that the three of them only discuss recording in interviews, which I find sad. Cheers, Ogre- |

It's a video version of his life as he has felt it internally - and the music section is only a small bit of it. It shows his depth. Clearly he was influenced by Blackstar. Maybe this is the end of the line for him creatively, and if so, what a great way to go out - this is easily the best thing he has done in 20 years. He's current and relevant. As much as I liked Electric Fire, this is best piece of art since Foreign Sand, or even Days Of Our Lives. |

Anyone else notice the text in the person's eye @ 3:14? It says "blind", on the lyric "fly into tomorrow", and it's even blurred out a bit - implying human fallibility and uncertainty while taking that next step. And 3:14. Pi. Circle. The circle symbolizes infinity, encompassing all possibilities. This time stamp is not a coincidence. And "fly straight" @ 5:25 while showing a curved road - it symbolizes optimism along with the acceptance in old age that things just aren't as straight forward as we'd like them to be. This is not "same old Roger" - this is art at its finest and purest. A massive step forward for him creatively. |

Hmmm. Yes, you can tell this is a post-Blackstar concept and with the best will in the world, Roger doesn't have the edginess Bowie had so falls a bit flat. Of course, it's great that he's done a 'big' production and I enjoyed it. Would I watch or listen again? Probably not. |

I've watched it several times in a row and appreciate it more every time I watch it. It has great depth, incredible atmosphere, a deep massage. The film is not a clip but an amazing short film packed with clever things. We have had much to complain about in recent years but not this one. This is Roger as an artist, thus creating true - and may I say very powerful - art. Congrats and deep respect and admiration for Rog! |

I'm glad Roger doesn't try to replicate some of his finer Queen / solo moments here and instead just follows his own, different path, but the song is not very good. It's not bad, has its moments, but overall a bit disappointing. |

I think to fully appreciate it you have to be a little older than a teenager and maybe have lost a few friends before their time along the way, reflective and beautiful writing, if you think it's boring it's probably escaping you, which is fine, but one day you may realise what was going through his mind at the time, he was clearly very affected by the loss of Bowie, and lets face it 2016 massive loss of artists of his generation. What I love about this is is shows he doesnt have to write in one style to make something that ticks the boxes. This track shows what his contribution to Queen was, not just Fun it and Sheer Heart Attack he was capable of so much more, maybe more variation then Freddie? |

I think we can count on one hand the number of songwriters of the last century who wrote songs (never mind massive hit songs) this varied. |
