Hi guys, I was chatting to my Mum today, telling her about my memories about the Tribute concert at Wembley in '92. There was a couple of things I realised that the TV coverage didn't quite pick up on. Firstly, the mass singalongs to the Queen videos being played in the stadium. Secondly, when Mango Groove were playing most the audience were cheering at the Mexican Wave that was happening in the stadium and I had to laugh, thinking that Mango Groove would've thought the cheers were for them ! I just wondered what your memories of the day were? |

'Extreme ' just about stealing the show, at the beginning. One tabloid headline on the day: 'set to dwarf live aid', Frankie Howard and Benny Hill dying over that weekend, a couple on the tube afterwards stating: 'well, that's it, no more Queen, it's all over ' |

I was the biggest Queen fan in the world but I was only 15 so couldn't go but some arsehole twat from my year at school went because he won a competition or something and came back to school talking about it but never mentioned Queen once. Robert Plant and Seal were, and remain, fucking atrocious. (and whatever the thing that is 'zucero' is?!!?) |

Robert Plant had spades of charisma. Messed up the words obviously and there were technical problems too but apparently had been strong in rehearsal. |
Marknow 14.05.2016 16:42 |
I remember thinking Plant was on acid without a doubt, he was fookin shocking bad for a total genius. Still love him though. John Deacon pissing himself laughing at some of the vocalists and thinking "fuck this shit" stands out too. |

Extreme was the best band of the day but Spinal Tap and Bob Geldof were a waste of time. George Michael was highlight of the day Somebody To Love was brilliant Could have done without the Lord's prayer. It was only the second concert I had attended it was an emotional day glad I went |

The soundcheck of Somebody to love, a few hours before opening the gates and the mass We Will Rock You singing before opening. Very emotional day! |

The whole day was overwhelming, standing outside, waiting to get in,the smell of marijuana wafting through the air,the mass singalongs, just getting in with seconds to spare before,'Roger',John',& 'Brian' took to the stage to welcome us,and introduce 'Metallica',going to the toilet when 'Spinal Tap' came on,and standing behind 'The British Bulldog' in the queue for a hotdog, the singalongs on the 'tube' on the way home, sitting opposite the enthusiastic american lady, who i recognised from being interviewed in 'The Magic Years',24 years later and i can still remember most of it like it was yesterday,a truly emotional and magical day! |

My favourite part is, without a doubt, the cheers that went out when John began to talk. |

As regards the queuing and waiting to get in, our tickets were for the Olympic gallery, 75 quid each mind you, but what a feeling walking straight past the throng to our own entrance and swanning up to our lofted position to enjoy a drink and observe the day unfolding. Special. |

BBC Points of View programme the following week: Some old woman phoned a comment in because it was supposed to finish by 10pm (!!!), which was… "I know these young people enjoy their pop concerts, but 4 and a half hours is a bit much when I'm waiting for my Snooker to start" Haha!!! |

Hearing John speak, seeing up close how emotional Brian was, hearing the Red Special play things like Pin Ball Wizard, staring at Roger from the front of the crowd watching every move he made on the drums thinking it would be the last time I would ever see him play, finding almost everyone around me and me included crying at certain points... so emotional and so over powering A stunningly sad and happy day at the same time |

Then later finding myself in the crowd on the VHS right at the end of the gig! Brilliant |
victorvortex 16.05.2016 09:46 |
I remember queuing up the steps next to the Freddie lookalikey, when he got to the top he started singing Radio Ga Ga. Even the police on horseback were joining in with the handclaps ! |

Organising a host of electronics to record as much of it as possible (three tape decks, two VHS recorders) Getting to Wembley at 8am. Sitting outside until about 10, when some poor sod stood up to stretch his legs and set off a mass movement that had everyone queuing up against each other to get in. All sorts of rumours of who would be on - didn't realise that the papers had been given the entire setlist in advance! Getting to a decent spot (on the pitch, about twenty yards in front of Brian's mic) and being very glad to sit down. Until about 12:30, when some poor sod stood up to stretch his legs and set off another mass movement. Cheering, singing, crying. Being very bored during Liz Taylor. Not being able to make out U2's video contribution as it was a dark video being played on a video screen in broad daylight. Bumping into a woman I knew from fan conventions on the pitch as we milled our way out. Being emotionally drained the next day. And a bit sunburnt. |

Standing under a gantry when Metallica struck their first chord. The pigeons that had made the gantry their home shat themselves, flew off and left the people standing below (to our left) covered in bird shit. Grandma Liz was an embarrassment. Spinal Tap were not funny. The Lords Prayer was crass and presumptuous. Liza Minnelli - we were all left scratching our heads at that one........ Daltrey, Iommi, Metallica and George Michael were incredible. All The Young Dudes was a real surprise. Where was Montserratt? |

Freddie absolutely worshipped her. Totally fitting that she was the finale - the one act that Freddie would have chosen above all others (even Aretha). |

Thought the most disappointing performance was Elton John's first bit of BR. It's as if he was just playing one chord and not the actual melody at all. Paul Young's voice was totally lost during Radio Ga Ga, he may as well have been miming. Thought on the DVD mix the sound of the crowd was quite poor when it came to hearing them singing along during the songs, as if the important thing in the mix was the vocals of the artist whereas it would have been much more enjoyable had we been able to hear the crowd sing along |

splicksplack, re: >>Freddie absolutely worshipped her. Totally fitting that she was the finale - the one act that Freddie would have chosen above all others (even Aretha). Bullshit. He'd have had Montserratt there before Brian. |
