hi there troops just wondering who all went to the glasgow gig yesterday? my woman said i was speaking to thistleboy but i cant remember jackshit its a total blank after 6pm so did they play well and was the sound good cheers stu
Yeah Stu, you were talking to me - was good seeing you :) (and I guessed you wouldn't remember much lol, you were well gone!)
They sounded superb mate. Lambert did a good job, and had the audience in his hands. He's really injected a new lease of life into Brian and Roger. He oversang and was way theatrical on most things, as per, but really nailed Save Me, WWTLF and Bo Rhap. Even with the oversinging, I thoroughly enjoyed him.
Queen sounded great. Brian was really enjoying himself, and the effort and sound was excellent. A few blips here and there, but nothing to spoil it.
Roger put in a great drum-battle with Rufus and sounded good on his vocals. But he needed a rest from time to time, but again, nothing to mar the show.
Some nice wee bits thrown into the bass and guitar solos - Don't Try Suicide, Backchat, The Invisible Man (bass) and Scotland The Brave (Brian solo). Loved the lone piper on WWRY too ;)
Sounds brill, really looking forward to Manchester on Wednesday, was going by car, but it looks like the snow is kicking in ! So
gotta sort the train out this weekend. :-)
i was also there and would echo much of what Thistleboy1980 said.
As an avowed 1970's era / Freddie fan it was with a degree of trepidation that I approached the gig. My first was 1979 at the Apollo, on my own as a 15yo (and still the greatest 90 or so minutes of my life, marriage and birth of my kids aside) and been to multiple shows every tour since.
I wasn't sure that I could tolerate Adam Lambert, in place of Freddie. I'd have to say though that live he can really nail the majority of songs. A beautiful sweet voice, capable of hitting just about every note in the book and a first class entertainer, albeit a wee bit too camp for me.
Did he oversing? Yes. Does he have the raw power for some of the heavier songs? No. Is he a replacement for Freddie? No, and in fairness I don't think he has ever tried to be. It's hard, but I tried my best to completely separate the two and that made it for a much more enjoyable gig.
Was I entertained. Immensely,yes.
What I was largely there for, though, was to see Brian and Rog for perhaps one last time and they didn't disappoint.
Thought they were both largely excellent, the good Dr's balls-up at Bohemian Rhapsody aside. Rog may not have the energy for a full show (Rufus taking the drums for Tie Your Mother Down, immediately before I Want It All when Rog then returned to the kit), but they both proved they've still more than got what it takes. It's been said before but as good as Rufus is, he's not his dad. It sticks out like a sore thumb.
All in all, I can't have too much to grumble with. At times, I felt a wee bit detached....as if watching an exceptionally decent tribute band but over the piece I'm glad I went (wasn't always going to) and a fair number of other friends who had never seen Queen before said it was the best gig they've ever been to!!
This isn't the place to discuss whether or not they should record again or what their plans for the future are, but if this was a swansong, it was a helluva one.
My son's first concert, aged 6, was Q + PR, 2008 (he's on the bootleg!), I've taken him to see plenty other bands since and and this one was "his best ever". Can't say more than that.
Steven
i thought the whole show was excelent...fairly near the front(as my vids show lol)....and i behaved like a teenager lol.the joy of not taking the boys along...dad rrocked out lol.10/10
I came away with a slightly underwhelmed feeling, it's the first time I've been to see "Queen", I was 10 in 1986 and was totally against going to see Q+PR.
I guess I built it up to be such a big thing, I've seen Roger & Brian solo and came away with more of a buzz.
However I did enjoy it, Adam has a very good range and I appreciated his individuality but his voice and oversinging got to me a bit, though as mentioned by others he really sung Save Me and Who wants to live forever well when his natural, clean voice came through.
The little details were good (bass solo, lighting, drum battle, footage during These are the days of our lives).
I just felt it lacked energy (understandably) and some of the songs were pretty pedestrian paced; Stone Cold Crazy, I want it all.
Makes me even more sad I never got to experience QUEEN live.
(Oh yeah, also got a parking ticket and there weren't any lines on the road).
