HI, I realize if anyone has read my previous comments about not obtaining "Forever" well, I did actually obtain the 2CD Deluxe digital download and just got through listening to "Spread Your Wings" (favorite John Deacon penned song) and "Long Away" is now making magic in my ears. The new songs sound brilliant as good as 320KBPS MP3 audio can get. For the record, although Pink Floyd's "The Endless River" was also obtained and listened to first AND although PF's new release is outselling "Forever" 5 to 1 currently, I saved the best for last. For a compilation release, it's nice to hear album favorites that were never released as singles and or never performed live, "Dear Friends" being one of them. It will be interesting to keep up on the European leg of Queen + Adam Lambert now that "Forever" is out. Will tracks from "Forever" be performed live? Would really get into a YouTube live performance of "Long Away" but I suppose that is wishful thinking. "Lily Of The Valley" just started. It is so weird not hearing "Flick Of The Wrist" not overlap into "Lily" but to hear the piano alone to begin the song is nice too. "There Must Be More To Life Than This" the William Orbit Mix is much better on "Forever" but I'll take the original recording (demo) from the 80's over it anyday. So, your thoughts / comments anyone? That would be great to finally hear a live version of LONG AWAY. But then again I was expecting WHITE QUEEN on the Q+AL tour and it didn't happen. I'm baffled by the press release stating it would be a dangerous Tour. Maybe one of their Tour buses had a mangled axle??? Anybody know? ??? |

Track list not surprised. Another one DEEP CUTS IMHO ! I've noticed more compression in tracks with remaster 2014 than 2011. |

There were a few performances of Long Away on the 2005 Q+PR tour........... |

Who plays bass on the new Love Kills? |
jondickens1 09.11.2014 07:46 |
Brian plays bass on Love kills. Just received my deluxe copy today. Although obviously it's a compilation album, it does seem to have a certain fluidity about it. To my ears some of the tracks sound crisper and clearer. As for TMBMTLTT, it's my first listen to the track. I maybe in the minority here but I actually quite like it. I prefer the backing track to the Mr Bad Guy version at least, which seems very dated now. However, I'm baffled by as to why Jacksons chorus is devoid of much of a backing track. It's almost as if 2 versions are spliced together. Would've been far better with just Freddie on vocals obviously. The ending of it has a Beatlesque sound to it to me........ I am the walrus? But, it's not as bad as people have made out. |

Another odd compilation by Queen...yay! Of course just an excuse to release the FM+MJ track. The rest is just gravy.... There are some really weird choices here though...because In what way are Drowse, The Miracle, Crazy Little Thing and Friends Will Be Friends lovesongs? :') Is This The World We Created? starts of with " friend" from the previous song (The Miracle). + They've cut off the synth intro to Play The Game. Wow. |
MercurialFreddie 09.11.2014 16:54 |
What's more the volume level on TMBMTLTT is really bad, it's like the loudness war has been taken to another level. It's good that someone has already pointed this out for Orbit. Guess it's his another "technical thing". link |
k-m 09.11.2014 17:07 |
I think you can say they are love songs. Drowse does mention some sort of a goodbye, Crazy Little Thing - self-explanatory, The Miracle - love of life and the world, Friends - friends who can cheer you up when love goes wrong? A very average song though. I think you can also treat Forever as a companion piece to Rocks and it does make some sense in that respect. I will probably request a single cd version for Christmas. It's a real shame it doesn't contain Take My Breath Away, which is a real gem of a love song, but I can't imagine myself sitting and listening to two discs of stuff I already heard before. It may be an interesting compilation to non-fans though. However, it should really be the last one. |

To me the William Orbit mix of TMBMTLTT sounds better than when I first heard it. But I'd still love to hear the band's mix of it. The ballad mix of "Love Kills" is pretty good, given that they couldn't have Freddie re-record the vocals to match the style of the arrangement. For me, the best of the three new songs is LMIYHA. I love how they didn't try to do anything to it other than make it sound like a Queen track. And it sounds just like a Queen track from The Works time period. It's just so cool hearing a "new" track with Brian, Roger and John playing together. And hearing a new Freddie vocal bought a tear to my eye. I purchased the single disc edition. I just couldn't justify spending the extra money for a disc of songs I already have multiple times. I have to say that I find the abrupt start of Play the Game weird, especially since the keyboard sounds at the start of the track would have made a great cross fade to A Winter's Tale, at least one the single disc. |

Well.. For me its the best compilation ever.. I always skip f.e. wwry abtd.... But.. I expected more.. The "new takes" remark from Brian was promising a lot... |

I treated myself to the 2 disc edition and I have to say I like it. The three 'new' tracks are all good, I have deliberately avoided them until the album arrived so I could hear them properly and not trust on someone elses quality control. LMIYHA is a lovely song, hardly a classic for all time but decent. I don't know why they couldn't find room for it on The Works. The new arrangement to Love Kills works very well, It's a song with many remixes in the past but I think I like this new slower paced version with real instruments better than any of the others. It sounds amazing on CD, very clear, crisp and modern. Not like something from almost 30 years ago. As for the Michael Jackson Duet, it starts off strong but just kind of falls away at the end. The Freddie Opening is strong, The MJ verse is a lovely counterpoint tonally but then the finale with Freddie mixed very low just doesn't work for me. Then Play The Game kicks and from that point onwards I think the tracks have been chosen very well. They flow quite majestically. It also seems wrong to refer to this as a greatest hits because for casual fans, half of this album will be new tracks and they will be very impressed. You Take My Breath Away. What a beautiful song, fabulous vocals and possibly Brians greatest guitar orchestration. Imagine the casual fan hearing that for the first time. It's a nice album, I think I will play it, unlike the Greatest Hits albums which I never play, they just sit there taking up space. The deluxe album cost me $16, I would have happily paid that just for the three new tracks, so the fact that I have a wonderful sounding album of slower paced love songs in addition is a bonus. (I just paid $30 for a new three track Magnum 10 inch vinyl single of re recorded tracks so my idea of value may be different to yours) |

Love LMIYHA ,it sounds like classic Queen with Freddie and Brian on fire, wish we had more stuff like that in the vaults. The duet with Michael Jackson is awfull not Freddies vocals, MJ's vocals are so weak,it should have never seen the light of day.I hope they just forget about any future releases with Jackson.I like the choice of songs on the album except as i said the one with with MJ.For those who say that LMIYHA sounds over loud and compressed,i should invest in a decent Hi Fi as it sounds great to my ears. All in all 4/5.As for the Pink Floyd album outselling Queen by 5 to one ,i bought the Floyd album and although there are some nice RW moments it really is the bottom of the pan. |

I listened the album in spotify, is really nice, perhaps without there must be more to life than this, but with the lenght of both cds, more tracks would be to add, like white queen, my fairly king, in only seven days, life is real and others 8 of 10 is my note |
Martin Packer 11.11.2014 13:58 |
Bought both currently-out versions of LMIYHA again. Like both a lot, prefer the Forever version. Also bought Love Kills (The Ballad) and it's fine. No interest in buying the album and would only buy TMBMTLTT if it were separately available. (And I don't have high hopes of it even being worth the 99p it would probably be.) But then I'm not a completist to the extent some are. |

TMBMTLTT isn't that bad. Least we get a good performance by Freddie. |

I'll talk only for the "new" tracks, since I haven't heard the whole album,Let me in...is really a nice remake, don't know if Freddie's vocals were worked by him or one off recording, but is really beautiful,I liked this song when I heard it from Anita, and now is my favourite. Love Kills, well, the new version is not bad, although Brian was...bored to write a new solo in my opinion, only quitar parts here and there,I expected a glorious solo but... There must...still that remix is bad, maybe it was impossible for something better, after all we don't know the condition of original recording,I like that song from Freddie,I guess it's difficult to put two superstars together and make something great out of it...it was in their case I guess |
