Well this year promised much for Queen fans with the expected new album, The Freddie Biopic and possible tour on the cards. Although there's still a small slice of the year remaining what a people's views on this year's expected bumper year for Queen fans? The tour was in my opinion a big undertaking for Roger and Brian considering Brian's health scare last Christmas and there advancing years and for the most part a great success. We also had the added surprise of the incredible Live at the Rainbow. And now they are about to tour Europe too.All huge positives for this big year for the fans. Now for the negatives. I can only speak for myself but I cannot help feel more than a little disappointed that the new album wasn't as Brian led us to hope for. We were all expecting a full album but instead it's just the 3 new tracks. However I believe this isn't all Brian and Rogers fault. From what I can gather the Jackson estate have been difficult to say the least. At least 2 songs they've worked hard on have not been given the go ahead to be released which must do the guys heads in as well as ours. I believe the 2 other Jackson tracks will see the light of day at some point and I understand by a previous quote by a fan here on Queenzone (apologies I forget the poster) that Brian and Roger are going to be looking at 2 more unfinished tracks in the near future. So, summing up, what are your opinions on 2014? Pleased? Disappointed? |

I didn't care about the tour or about the biopic, but the Rainbow project made me VERY happy - the first time I was excited about a Queen release since Live at the Bowl 10 years ago |

Indifferent about the tour, disappointed in the Queen Forever album, but very much excited and pleased with the Rainbow release. |

To me, the only slightly disappointing thing would be the Forever album, and it depends on the final product to know if it really would be disappointing or not. But taking into consideration all other stuff from Queen, Queen+, Brian etc I would say this year has been amazing! |

I saw an excellent Q+AL show, heard a live version of The Fairy Feller's Master Stroke, and heard a new song with Freddie vocals. I'd say this is one of the best Queen years since 1995. Indeed, after Bri's health scare it's amazing the tour even happened, and will continue. |

Given Roger and Brian's questionable choices in Queen product recently, I find it astounding that Rainbow 74 got released at all. Quite happy with that and to hell with all the rest! |

2014 is a great year for rock music in general. Queen: Live at the Rainbow, the tour Roger Taylor: Best (the vinyl release) Brian May: Played on "God Only Knows" and is coming out with an actual solo single The Beatles: Mono Box Set Pink Floyd: The Endless River Bob Dylan: Bootleg Series 11 Foo Fighters: Sonic Highways I'm sure I'm missing many more. But overall 2014 has been a burden to my wallet! |
Wijnand 14.10.2014 03:36 |
Only the already mentioned: 'live version of The Fairy Feller's Master Stroke' made this year unforgettable... And all the other extra's... GREAT YEAR! |

Mixed feelings about 2014, I think it's great to hear Freddie Mercury on a new song, but I was hoping for more than one (of course) - I had the impression that we were gonna get Made in Heaven 2. I seldom listen to live shows anymore, but it's great to finally have a good release from the early '70s, and to fill in some blanks in the live collection, like The Fairy Fellers Master-Stroke and Great King Rat. This is the best Queen-year since 1995, so overall a great year, and I feel we can't complain (much). |

Thank you all for your response. The reason I asked the question is because there seems to be a fair amount of negativity recently concerning the Queen Forever album out next month. I myself have fallen into that trap because I was hoping for more than a compilation album with just 3 new tracks. However, in the light of what's gone before this year with The Rainbow project and tour to come in Europe I'm very pleased. And you never know, if Brian and Roger do work on the 2 tracks I mentioned in my 1st post, we may yet see a full new album. Ok, that's maybe stretching the positivity a bit too far. But here's hoping. |

Had Queen never mentioned the possibility of Queen Forever - no one would have anything negative to say about an incredible Queen year.... Rainbow/Fairy Feller + seeing Brian & Roger in a live setting is more than any Queen fan can ask for in any given year. 2014 was stellar. Now where's that box set of demos... still waiting for the Queen Anthology... Although they probably won't start on that until they're ready to retire. |

2014 isn't yet over, but thé highlight for me, as for many of us, The Rainbow release. Still have mixed feelings about the Forever album, The Queen + Adam Lambert Tour, well it isn't my cup of tea, but I do, and I really do respect the fact that Brian and Roger are still tour around the globe. And I respect their choice, since it is their choice. But the Rainbow release is for me as a collector and diehard, do diehard still exist, the highlight of the year, as it brought back so many memories, as waiting for the record store to open and pick up my Seven Seas of Rhye 7 single and so on...... I loved 2014 for the Rainbow releases, but I won't buy Queen Forever and I don't like the new Queen+Adam Lambert project |

When you consider how many years we've had with nothing ! This year has been superb, let's not forget Roger's album, which I really like, shame there was no tour ( but where would you fit it in ? ), and didn't the Queen 40 book come out this year ? Next year looks like something similar, we have a Brian single on the way, and that soundtrack album. Phew !!!!! |

Apart from "The Rainbow" Dvd 2014 has been a poor year for Queen purists like myself. 2015 does not look any better. Queen have forgotten there ardent fans and now catering for the new generation of fans The new album is just aimed at new fans and apart from the new track " let me in your heart again" the rest of the album is money for old rope especially if you have everything like i have!. |
br5946 14.10.2014 14:23 |
Honestly, I'm generally impressed with this year. Rainbow is probably the second-best thing to satisfy the 70s concert desperadoes (of which am I one, and proudly), it's nice to see Brian back in the public eye slightly with the 'God Only Knows' cover, and as for the QZ'ers moaning about Queen Forever, I have a mixed mind to agree. The fact that it's a compilation does kind of bore me to death. However, such people must take on board that QF is actually the best compilation release since Queen Rocks. Seriously, Forever has nine album tracks, with 3 of the 9 being bonus tracks of sorts, which I'd say is pretty decent. And even the eleven hits are picked adequately - hell, A Winter's Tale finally gets a shot at the big time, despite it being a Top 10 hit in the UK! Honestly, remixing Freddie's solo material might be a cheap shot, but Brian and Roger have proven that they can do that superbly once again. And I'm with them on wanting their mix of There Must More to be released - Freddie sounds suffocated on the Orbit mix. All I'm saying is that if Brian is to believed about forgotten full songs, then this might be the time to end it all and go out on a moderately high note. |
andyb1968 14.10.2014 14:55 |
Wasn't sure about the Queen 40 book, but 2011 makes sense duh !! But I still like fun on earth, it was a slow grower on me, but then all Roger's albums are, and there are a couple of tracks I skip, but then I do that with all albums. |

Gerry, why don't you just admit that the only thing that would truly satisfy you is if Freddie Mercury was revived, and John Deacon rejoined Queen... |

Extremely thrilled to say I saw Brian and Roger for the first time ever this year! Got to say I thought Lambsie was a pretty good "fill-in" for Freddie. You can't replace Freddie, and I note it took two people to cover for him in the form of Lambert and Spike Edney. The main attraction though was Brian. He was absolutely amazing!! He put his complete heart and soul into it! |
