Fantastic tune, but not on the album proper. Does anyone have any info of how this song came about? Why it was left of the album? And was it a collaborative effort or was there a main song writer |

No info on origin but should have been on the album IMHO. What I do is replace Invisible Man with Hang On In There on the Miracle playlist. Also substitute My Baby with Stealin. Makes for a more mature, classic sounding album. |

However as it progresses its not as polished as typicaly are Queen songs.Production i mean. Party, on the other hand is so IN YOUR FACE , as an opener.Blasts your ears from the start. |

My alternate Miracle album opener is a hybrid of the 12" version (intro/power chords)/standard versions of 'Breakthru', which is more in-your-face than 'Party', as far as I'm concerned. |

Never liked "Party". It just seemed like a lame opener, like I feel "Staying Power" is. :-( |

Its a MONSTER! But it is also too "dramatic" to start an album. |

More like a demo to me once it gets going, whereas Party is awesome and segues beautifully into Khashoggi's Ship at the end! |

I think out of all the songs actually on The Miracle and all the b-side songs.......Hang On In There is like my 2nd favorite! Behind Was It All Worth It, of course...........thats just awesome............. Hang On In There is really sort of a prog rock tinged jamming song............and thats the Queen stuff I love......... |
Heavenite 16.04.2014 03:07 |
Wow! For me Hang on in There is probably the worst song in the whole Queen discography! Freddie's worst vocal bar none! Nice start, but goes downhill rapidly after that. Party, on the other hand, is a true classic Queen rocker. Just my opinion of course, although Queen saw it my way and made Party the opener and Hang on in There the b-side. Having said that, each to their own, as always of course. |

"Freddie's worst vocal bar none" Nah, Delilah. |

I like Hang On In There a lot and agree it should have been on the album. I think it goes off a bit towards the end though, which is a shame. Still, it does have Freddie turning into a trumpet. |

Especially the line in the middle "Your wish will be granted -All your problems will disappear" sounds almost out of tune. For me "Hang on in There" and "I Cant Live With You" are his most weak points. The music/production demands more of his usual power but its not there. He sounds thin. Perhaps a little later on he evolved his technique around his changing voice due to the illness. Therefore Show Must Go On, Mother Love e.t.c. As for Dellilah mentioned, the song is light and almost a parody. No need for special vocals.Just camp theatricality and he is off the hook. |

While we might disagree on which one is the worst, there is a lot, but not universal, agreement about which songs are the prospective candidates. I notice! the ones that seem to be attracting most attention are: One Year of Love: I agree! A shocker of a vocal for Freddie! Delilah: I used to really love this song because of its sentimental vocal and the "meows" at the end by Brian on guitar. But the sentimentality has worn off now unfortunately, and now the strained Freddie vocal ha been sticking out more and more! and Hang On In There, a favourite for some, but definitey not mine! Opposite end actually! And if you listen to the original release, it is clear they even pitch adjusted Freddie when he was belting a high note he couldn't reach towards the end of the song. It's been hidden quite well on the recent remaster by softening it to the point where some here think it's Freddie using his head voice. But it isn't!! |
Holly2003 17.04.2014 08:59 |
To be fair to Fred, One Year of Love is such an inconsequential song that he may have thought it needed some vocal gymnastics to make it interesting. Unfortunately it didn't help and it just comes across as a dull song with sloppy, tasteless vocals. |
Stelios 17.04.2014 10:59 |
I am sure that if there wasn't than belting hi- pitched "I am the prisoner of looOOOOve " at 0:38, the fuss about One Year Of Love would be much less. I remember the 1st time i heard it, and on that "prisoner of looOOOOve" bit i was taken aback. It was higly dramatic, very powerfull and yet carried some FEMININE HYSTERIA on it. Just those 2 seconds ! |
