Was looking forward to this documentary on sky arts tonight called "discovering queen". It's billed as friends and fans of legendary rock band queen discussing their admiration for the award winning quartet and reflecting on their enduring hit songs. So far, I've seen a lot of people I've never heard of, obviously too young to have missed queen, talking like they knew them personally - and have learned: 1- killer queen was a number two single from SHA 2- bohemian rhapsody was on ANATO and was the birth of the promo video 3- ADATR was named after a Marx bros film 4- Hot Space was dance orientated and had David Bowie on it 5- I really couldn't be arsed watching this drivel anymore. Thank you for making this enlightening programme! Nothing new, nothing exciting, shit quality footage....and I'm watching on HD. Next on: queen at Milton Keynes. I'm hoping its the original edit without vocal correction! That bum- note from Freddie on FBG cracks me up :) |

Best part was when they slagged off the tour with Paul Rodgers and labeled him a pub singer and the only singer in the world who would need an autocue to sing Queen songs. They went on to say the mini tour with Lambert was a better fit. Couldn't agree more. Otherwise the program was shite. |

At least the MK Bowl broadcast was the original audio, so was lovely to remind me how Roger's snare drum should have sounded, rather than the mess they made of it on the mix for the DVD release. |

I recorded it because I couldn't keep my eyes open any longer last night....mainly due to the previous programme......did it have the bum-note on FBG??? Will be worth a watch later on if it does :) |

Yet another shitty "talking heads" style program, with people who had never seen the band live and bored us to tears with "facts"..... not even worth recording |

Mr. Mercury! It's been ages! How you doing?? |
MackMantilla 06.05.2013 21:47 |

Is there a digital recording of the TV edit of Milton Keynes ? It's time to update my VHS transfer :-) |

pittrek wrote: Is there a digital recording of the TV edit of Milton Keynes ? It's time to update my VHS transfer :-) I was thinking the same. Anybody have a HD transfer? It is safe to upload here because it has different camera angles and audio from the official release. Otherwise PM me if you have a copy and don't want to upload it. Cheers. |

Sadly I didn't record it, but it does get shown quite frequently, so will try to catch the HD broadcast next time. I think it was a stereo broadcast judging by how my av receiver dealt with it. |

If i read correctly Thistleboy did record MK in HD.... |
MackMantilla 07.05.2013 15:32 |
By the way, Thistleboy, please confirm us if that audio is mono or stereo.. ;) |

The NME guy isn't exactly on the ball. He says Queen's first two albums weren't well-received and points to the NME headline "Is this man a prat?" Never mind that interview/review by Tony Parsons (a real prat btw) appeared in 1977. He's also compares the demo for Under Pressure (Feel Like) with the finished song and comes to the conclusion that Bowie's influence turned a crap song into something brilliant. That's a huge leap to make, based on very scanty evidence. Finally, he says UP isn't much of a song but has great production values. Silly sod. The only interesting thing about the documentary is that version of WATC at the end, which is a different mix or version. Anyone know where it's from? |

Nothing we havent seen or heard before. All they did was talk to fans of the band, no-one we know and no-one that has any real connection to them. I heard the fans quoting things we've all heard before in other documentaries, such as the story about John forgetting the baseline to Under Pressure. Plus no mention whatsoever of Miracle and Innuendo albums - at least I don't think, I was skipping parts towards the end - , it just went from Magic - Barcelona - Freddie's death. A lazy production, I think. Was nice to see some footage of WWRY though, even if it was very old footage. |

One of the better in depth documentary's information wise and way back past beginnings wise, but no queen music, but plenty of real people who worked with Queen from their outset back in Liverpool before Freddie Created Queen with Brian Roger and John. It is this kind of in depth origins feel that one only found in the better Bowie biographies, and was somehow always lacking in the various few Queen histories. |

Isn't it amazing that Freddie sold David Bowie his Green Boots while he was still an unknown working on the Kensington market stall, who actually told a young long haired David Bowie, as he wrapped the boots up for him and took his gold beans, that he , was going to an audition for a new band called smile, his good Friend and market stall business partner, Roger Taylor Drummed for? small world. David Bowie received his boots from Mercury, that is the thing myths are made of , isn't it? Mercury and Perseus of Greek Myth , had the same in common. link |

I never knew Queen were from Liverpool. It's wonderful research like that which makes Queenzone such a delight these days. |

@ mr mercury - I'm doing great, cheers: I'm hardly on here myself, but a little more frequently than you lol. That was a nice blast from the past :) @ mackmantilla - I recorded it over at my fiancées house, and she doesn't have any speakers hooked up, so we're relying on the TVs own (not great) set - to my ears, it was a mono mix, with the TV giving it a horrible "fake" stereo sound. @ pairsnair, yep, we recorded the HD channel's broadcast, but it was still quite grainy looking. I don't have the means to get it uploaded folks, sorry :( |
MackMantilla 10.05.2013 11:50 |
Thanks for your answer, dude. I hope you (or someone else) can get the chance of uploading this recording soon.. |

It had 3 highly annoying music journalists either talking bollocks or stating the obvious. If you haven't seen it renact the experience by playing GH I & II interspersed with Prime Minister's Questions and you've pretty much got it. |
Thistle 18.05.2013 16:30 |
Spot on, bobbyo - I had to switch off. It bored me so much, I couldn't keep my eyes open for the MK show! |
