| matt z 17.01.2013 04:48 |
I would have said YOU AND I (didn't he write most of that? ) or Dont Try So Hard/My Baby Does Me... YOU AND I has so much vitality and punctuated by the middle ...do d o do doo doot do doo doot doooo |
| tomchristie22 17.01.2013 04:55 |
I thought people had come to the conclusion that there was no reason to believe Don't Try So Hard was John's? You And I would be my pick as well, Spread Your Wings is my favourite included here. He doesn't have that many songs so I don't see why it'd be any trouble to include all of them in the poll.. |

<---- lousy ignoramus. STILL not aware of the initial conceptualization of ALL of the INNUENDO tracks. BIJOU is suggestively mentioned as a FREDDIE song, but he was never able to play licks like that. ... unless some rare piano or vocal take survives. Anyways, Freddie was clearly a genius. ... why should I doubt The rest are pretty clear by documentation. Maybe I haven't done my homework |

matt z wrote:BIJOU is suggestively mentioned as a FREDDIE song, but he was never able to play licks like that. .To compose a melody you don't need to be able to play it. Composing and playing are different disciplines. Most musicians who happen to be both composers and performers are usually able to compose things they wouldn't be able to play/sing, and play/sing things they wouldn't be able to compose. Case in point: the thousands of pianists who learn Chopin's works... how many of them can actually compose something like that? A lot of guitar music is written by non-guitarists, both in classical and popular circles. Regarding DTSH, John name-dropped it in a 1990 letter to the Fan Club but not at any point did he ever say or imply he'd written it. Some idiot misread the quote and assumed it and then some gullible people believed him/her, and then some more people believed it because it was already 'fanon' (fan canon), and so on ... but it was never said or implied it was his - in fact, Brian said (Q Mag, early 2006) that DTSH and The Miracle were his favourite songs written by Freddie, and the recently released Illustrated Lyrics book includes the manuscript, with Freddie's handwriting - which by itself proves nothing (he used to make a copy of other people's lyrics as he understood his own handwriting better) but adds to it. Not John, never was and there's never been any SERIOUS claim to the contrary. Just internet gossip. |

You and I is probably my joint favourite along with Spread Your Wings; not a fan of I Want To Break Free mostly because of the production, but can stomach the live versions much more |
| Heavenite 17.01.2013 08:50 |
Spread Your Wings is a gorgeous song, but I went for I Want To Break Free. Love the bit in the middle and the long intro, and the video (which I guess shouldn't count) probably seals it, because of its sense of humour and complete silliness. |

Love Spread Your Wings but feel it could've been developed more - probably with more guitar. And I think this way because of the other versions - Beeb and Live Killers that seemed to develop. But being of it's time - on the album that was the first stab at the sparseness Hot Space exemplified :-) - it was going to have an underdeveloped feel. |

I voted Spread Your Wings. The Studio version isn't too great but it was great live and the BBC version is amazing. My second choice would be AOBTD. If You and I was on there things might have been different. I really like that song... |
| The Real Wizard 17.01.2013 14:16 |
^ agreed. Spread Your Wings is my pick too. You're My Best Friend is a close second - it really is the perfect pop song. Of the 10,000+ Queen and related tracks I've heard (studio and live), the BBC version of Spread Your Wings is in the top five. |
| Holly2003 17.01.2013 14:26 |
Spread Your WIngs is great and the Livekillers version is one of my favourite live songs. However, if I had to pick one John song it would be If You Can't Beat Them. The live version of that track from Cologne 1979 is amazing and Brian does a fantastic job. |

I think 'In Only Seven Days' is a GREAT song as well. |

" if I had to pick one John song it would be If You Can't Beat Them." Really? The lack of 'You and I' in the poll screams 'QUEEN NEWBIE!!!' The best Queen single never released. |

To be honest, I have a hard time believing You and I is a John Deacon song. All those time changes and dramatic moments aren't really John are they? I bet this was a really simple song given the Queen treatment by Fred and Brian. That said, you're right: it's a masterpiece. Closely followed by Spread your Wings and If you cant join them, beat them. |
| waunakonor 17.01.2013 16:55 |
You and I (Why is that not here!!??
Spread Your Wings
You're My Best Friend
Need Your Loving
Another One Bites the Dust
Back Chat
If You Can't Beat Them
One Year of Love
Misfire
In Only Seven Days
I Want to Break Free

Closely followed by Spread your Wings and If you cant join them, beat them.I never really thought about that. I always thought that was more of a result of being influenced by Freddie and Brian's writing and/or being a more confident songwriter after Best Friend became popular. If Freddie or Brian did have significant impact, it's credited to John so, since there's no concrete reason to believe otherwise, it should be assumed that it's John's song. Also, *You're >:-( |

Probably follows from their pre-MIRACLE agreement. Seems like someone else had their hands in it too but the initial piano and constant bass upbeat vibe seem all John. YOU AND I is great. ... and another that was never performed, right? |

Mooghead has got it spot on, yet again. It has to be 'You And I', one of the best songs they ever recorded, also of my favourite album. Also the inclusion of 'One Year Of Love', is he having a laugh or what? |

Another one that everyone seems to have forgotten, is Need Your Loving Tonight, or is there only me that likes that song? But then I do have The Game in my top 5 Queen albums, Although I was a bit confused when I first heard AOBTD when it came out at the time, but that's a favourite of mine too. I also agree about Spread your wings, at the BBC, definitely a far superior version of the song, cos I don't like the album version at all. |

horse feathers wrote: Another one that everyone seems to have forgotten, is Need Your Loving Tonight, or is there only me that likes that song? No, I like that song one too, but I like You and I better, so I didn't mention it. Also excluded: Misfire and In Only Seven Days. |

My faves are In only seven days, Misfire and You and I. But I really, really love ALL of his tunes. |

Ooh yeah - forgot about Need Your Loving Tonight! Great, simple but effective song perfectly suited to The Game album. |
| Heavenite 19.01.2013 05:38 |
In Only Seven Days really is a good'n for me. Need Your Lovin' Tonight and If You Cant Beat Them are good too! |
| tomchristie22 19.01.2013 08:03 |
In Only Seven Days has to be one of their weakest songs from the 70's, but I kind of like it. It has a simplistic charm to it I guess, particularly in the lyrics, which paint a pretty vivid picture with how bluntly narrative they are. I like Misfire too, it's cool to hear John and Brian's electric guitar work in such close contrast, and it's got a nice melody to it. |

on this poll, for me, it's spread your wings, but i love in only seven days, perhaps it isn't in this poll |
