Ok, this is serious. What are your real predictions about this Rainbow release? Mind revealing them? It was said to be a compilation of both nights on DVD. Would you really like it? Or would you still want to see both complete nights on DVD? Any possible thoughts on the Blu-ray version (if such is going to materialise at all)? Would you like some bonuses and what would you want to see as bonuses? How about an accompanying CD release? Would you want it to be a compilation as well, or maybe two complete shows? Discuss. |

But as you asked so nicely... I would like to see both complete shows on DVD and Blu-ray. As for bonus material, I would prefer bits of the footage from the 31/03/1974 concert. And, of course, I would very well like to hear both complete shows on CD. A compilation would be either great, but still I'd like to see the two shows separated. |

I'd be happy with one really good quality DVD which covers all songs from both nights so it can be watched smoothly as 'one gig' (was the setlist the same??) I would however like a cd of both gigs, even if one suffers because they do not have the multitrack masters. Any complete backstage footage is a must (we had snippets before) plus also any trailers or ads for the original cinema showings. Maybe also a small feature about the 'Box of Tricks' edited release too, and how this came about and the thinking behind why that gig out of all the others available was put into that set. A new on camera interview with brian and roger covering the time around the gigs too please! |

But it's a pity not all of that is likely to happen. Well, maybe they will decide to release it that way, but only partly. |

The same format as the latest Wembley release would be great - that means 2 almost complete concerts on DVDs and a 2 CD version of at least one night, plus some nice booklet and everything they have from the March show (meaning at least Son And Daughter and Modern Times). I am definitely NOT buying a 2 night compilation, or maybe I will get it from eBay in 2 years when it will be pretty cheap. The official VHS looks great, I see no reason to buy exactly the same thing on DVD |

If they included Modern times rock and roll, the complete liar, flick of the wrist, etc but compilated from different nights, why don't buy it? |

It should be a complete concert, in my opinion. If that means a compilation of two nights, well, fine (like Montreal). Without any awkward edits, please. |

Ideally, I'd like to see a couple of different options for purchase: 1. A DVD compilation of both November shows. March footage as a bonus. 2. A 2 DVD/2 CD set featuring both uncut November shows, March footage as a bonus, and the complete March audio on the CDs. 3. A Blu-Ray/2 CD set featuring both uncut November shows, the March footage as a bonus, and the complete March audio on the CDs. I'd like a Blu-Ray release for 2 reasons; firstly because a DVD release will most likely be in crappy NTSC format (ARGH!), meaning that the dimension of the picture will be reduced (try comparing the recent Wembley release with the 2003 PAL DVD to see what I mean), and may also lose the interlaced look that is synonymous with videotape (due to the different frame rates of PAL & NTSC material). Secondly, I think I am right in saying that the March footage exists and was shot on film. This means it has the potential for full HD. One last thing, they should be in the original (4:3) aspect ratio! :D |

I already assume it will be good because they haven't really made a bad concert DVD yet, but if they could include all they have video and audio wise in the best quality possible I would be so happy... |

Like most say - Blu-Ray + CD like they did with Budapest is now the expected standard - anything less would be, well, erm, substandard... For the actual shows themselves - there is no need for complete releases of both nights if the quality is not up to Queen's standards... In 1974.. they made mistakes... I'd rather they overdub/patch up the better recording with the other and we get a really superb show. IF they're going to release a bonus disc - then we should get both shows unedited in standard quality for archival purposes... otherwise, that 2nd disc is waste - even if they set up 30 minute retorospective. If you're going to charge for the bonus - make it worthwhile. Bootlegs are there to reveal the flaws, this should be a glossy, glamerous production - ie. Would you rather listen to Queen on Fire Live at the Bowl? or Queen - Milton Keynes 1982, the bootleg. Pretty sure 99/100 pick Fire, DVD or CD over the bootleg. |

Since my attempt to derail the topic failed, I wouldn't be thrilled with anything less than COMPREHENSIVE. Saying that. I had no idea TWO shows were filmed. Even for archival purposes they ought to. But seeing as how the post-miracle video s havent been released as well. .. I would just expect less. What are your real predictions about this Rainbow release?I predict rockandrollwhoever will start at least one new topic each day. I predict an ambiguous soap-box message from Brian ("we're doing work on the Rainbow show for a release"). I predict that in 10 years time the Box of Tricks VHS will still be the only officially released product of the Rainbow show. You did ask for predictions, not hopes and wishes... :P |
tomchristie22 17.01.2013 22:29 |
I would be happy with a merge of the two nights, as long as they do it in such a way that it presents a full show and setlist assembled from the footage from the two nights, not crappily cut down and full of awkward 'medley's and butchering of songs. Both nights would be even better. The March footage as bonus material would be amazing, but I'm not letting my expectations run wild. |

Nice thoughts coming out from everybody, but they are just thoughts after all. This topic has done as well as I had expected that. So, some of your thoughts (rather predictions) might be materialising some time soon this year. All we can do now is just wait and see. But this doesn't mean we should entirely stop the discussion... :-) Go on! Maybe someone will come up with another bunch of rather interesting thoughts. |
