Queen The Hague, Holland Congresgebouw December 8, 1974 For many years it was rumoured that an audience tape from Queen's first show in Holland was out there, and its existence was confirmed in November 2011 when an mp3 sample was posted a Dutch website on the 20th anniversary of Freddie Mercury's death. A few months later, it was promised that a silver disc of the recording from The Hague would be given to everyone who attended the 2012 Dutch Queen fan convention. Only one side of a 90 minute cassette reportedly exists. This monumental release had a couple slight flaws, which are fixed here. The tape played a bit too fast, and there were slight gaps between the tracks. Thankfully the creators of the disc left Procession and Now I'm Here as a single track, as well as the medley, which made the job much easier than it could've been. It's possible that the recording was transferred to mini-disc at some point, as a spectral analysis reveals slight inconsistencies after 16 kHz. Thanks to everyone involved in unearthing this historic recording. Although a bit distorted, the recording is well-balanced. There is a fair bit of interesting banter from Freddie between songs. Many thanks to everyone who was involved in this! I had a feeling we would see this recording after hearing the sample posted of Killer Queen some time back. It's great to see a recording of vintage Queen, nearly 40 years old, become available for us to enjoy today. |

Never underestimate what's going on behind the scenes. That's all I can say. It has been a very good year for new recordings. Alt sources from Yokohama 75, Monterrey 81, Zurich 82 second night, Boston 82 and Frejus 86, upgrades from Toronto 78, Oakland 78, Zurich 80, Essen 80, Wembley 86 audience both nights, and the Hague 74 tape. About as good as last year's haul. This makes me hope for more. I didn't realize that all those new old tapes came out this year... |

I suspect a lot of people missed shows that got lost in the multiupload and Adam Lambert threads. That said - compared to 2009, any year may seem like a slow year. Boston 76, the Seattle 77 pre-LP and Sun City 84 all came out in a span of a week. I don't think anything will ever top that. |
