Hey everyone. Jus discovering all this great Queen and Freddie Mercury music for the first time.
I was aware of the major hits like anyone else, but never really knew the story of the man, or all the rich history of songs he had.
The man was an amazing performer, jus been sitting at the pc for days watching his old stuff.
He reminds me of another superstar i like, Michael Jackson. I saw a documentary when Michael used to go their shows .. and there are alot of similarities of the two, the eccentricities, the showmanship especially in their live shows, the voices, etc
What do you all think of the King Of Pop, and is there any videos out there where Freddie mentions him or talks about their time together? I know the two songs they records 'There's more to life than this' and 'State of Shock'. What do you all think of them?
There's a segment within the opening minutes into the "Great Pretender" where archival US TV footage of Freddie talking about his collaboration with MJ features significantly.
Also, they recorded 3 tracks, not 2 ;-)
Well, at least Queen never pretended (!) to play live, which Michael Jackson has done for years. Just watch the Munich History show and you will see that the majority of songs were playbacked ,as they simply just used the studio recordings.
In the "musical prostitute" interview freddie talks i some detail about his collaboration with MJ. He also talks about how Mick Jagger ended up recording State Of Shock with Michael instead of freddie himself.
Yeah there were two versions of State Of Shock i noticed. Why did he go with the Jagger version?
Also Jackson lyspynched alot of his last tour, he was 40+ and dancing on stage ... impossible to dance and sing live at that age. Most would prefer his dance and moves to him singing live.

That's true to a certain extent. However, scrupulous study (like the many die-hard fans on QZ do) can attest to the fact that most of his (Michael Jackson) broadcast performances are just that. BROADCAST editions.
Its evident in one of his last which was given a live RADIO feed (which has been recorded) but highly edited and overdubbed for broadcast. (2001 New york what more can I give?)
Its a different fossil record if you check with pirate bootlegs. Since all of his songs excepting ballads were performed to a click w/band etc, many have been synced up for broadcast with the original cut.
Songs like "Will You Be there?" Were often performed live, but mixed to studio (omitting breathing)
Same with "Jam" some nights more back track than live, some nights more live than back track.
Same goes for "Earth Song" which has some seriously wrenched scowl inducing tear at your throat singing, but wasn't performed with AS much live. (The man was dancing his ass off and losing weight during each show under lights etc, oxygen tanks are on each side AND backstage.
Things he didn't seem to EVER sing live:
Blood on the Dancefloor
Stranger in Moscow (his best song imho.... Though someone recorded a soundcheck of this it was never performed live by actual singing)
And other songs appear to have been modulated to a lower key (michael's singing can at times be screaming)
I'm not sure about all of em, if you're interested in MJ might wanna check a forum.
Unfortunately I don't know of any. But live bootlegs attest to him singing quite a few surprising songs WHILE doing his thing.
For this last tour, I don't think he was at the point of even singing AND dancing, woulda been one or the other for quite a bit.
A damn shame neglect (and painkiller addiction) killed him

MJ was ultra talented and was a giant of pop music. Although IMO everything after Bad was crap on a stick. Off the Wall is still my favourite.
Unfortunately - he was also a drug-addicted creepy man/child who "at best" - was wildly inappropriate with young boys and "at worst" was a child molester. He got that way from a horrid childhood.
I can't stand his rabid fans who see him as some sort of messiah super-human.
He's just a messed-up guy who could lay down a groove, dance and sing with the best of them. That's all.

Love him or loathe him, Axl Rose always sang live whilst physically sprinting around, jumping and dancing for a 3 hr show............

Saw Axl Rose in Ahoy this year... He was running and jumping and singing... Loved it!
But, to be honoust, he had to leave the stage every 5 minutes for some oxygen (or beer, don't know :-))...
