Hard to grasp the power of one man, Freddie M. Music can certainly move us and incite many emotions, it seems to me that Freddie tops the bill.
This morning I got up and while everyone else slept I lay on the trampoline under the trees with my Ipod listening to Queen. I had some MIH on and before I knew it I began to weep! I was thinking of all the many things I was truely thankful for in my life then my mind turns to the regrets. You see, for the past 12 years I have raised my daughters two beautiful boys, she was truely ill. On the bright side, she now is better and has rejoined their lives. Anyway, after releasing all of this crazy emotion (for which I'll add, I'm no crybaby) I got up and began bouncing, then went for a walk/run. Haven't done that in several years even tho I keep wanting to. As I started walking AKOM came on and once again, Freddies special magic washed over me. I know this is really strange but some changes took place inside of me this morning and I give FM and Q a lot of credit.
Ok, maybe a stupid post, just wanted to share. LOL eeesh..
defintely no a stupid post
i agree with you 100%....lost my dad 4yrs ago today, and my brother 7 months later...both to cancer..
during that time and a few months after several songs followed me around whenever i listened to my DAB radio....
green day - wake me up when september ends
green day - good riddance (time of our life)
nickelback - photograph
and a few others, including some stuff i remember hearing as a very small lad in 1967/8 - that dad played
incl the beatles, small faces, thunderclap newman, scott mckenzie and many many irish folk songs i sorted for dad's wake
the lyics and memories followed me, and made me stronger...it's odd what gets you thru sometimes, but it's still vital...and strangely, only music can really do this
hope you're feeling stronger now
This is no stupid post at all. Music can be comforting and pressure releasing. Without music our life would be much harder imo. Your post only shows that you are a sensitive and thoughtful person.
I am really glad you are on QZ, your posts are are always funny and you are always trying to keep the peace. I am glad the hard times are over for you.
Thank you much for responses, and YV, thank you for the welcome to QZ. I've enjoyed the time here and yes, most here are fairly opinionated :-) Ah, well, it's ok. Music was a huge part of my life for years then I went through years of none. Much happier when I listen to lots of it. Anyway, thanks again!
I'm not experienced enough at all with life to feel things quite like this or to truly relate with you, but I hope someday I do have such and intimate connection with some of the music I listen to frequently today.
...and one other thing. sorry felt i had to add this.
if i'm on my way somewhere and i got music playing or got to be leaving the house to go somewhere...ordinarily i just turn the radio off
however, if any of the above songs are playing, i now feel compelled to sit and listen...to the end.
think the songs became a part of me. and so now they still link me to four years ago
I don't care much for the radio here. Too much pop music and the rock stations play the same music over and over. I'd rather listen to my cd's. Music will certainly link you to events, emotions and people in your life. There are some songs I can't listen to as they just make me feel far too sad. Bridge Over Troubled Water is one of them. That was a song my mother dedicated to me in my late teens when I had some troubles. Sadly enough the day she died I got the call and had to go to the group home she was living in, I arrived before they had taken her body. I walk in the door and they had the tv on with all the hurricane Katrina aftermath news, well, BOTW was the song they were playing. I was in shock already, then I walk in and that song is playing and I have to deal with my mother there. So so hard. Cant hear that song without welling up inside. There are others that my Dad used to play on guitar and sing, I'm always reminded vividly of those times.
As Your Valentine said, music has the power to help make your life easier. There is certain songs that bring back memories of people that have passed on in my life. The first being Wings' Mull Of Kintyre which I sang and played guitar to at my grandfathers last ever New Years party. It took a good while to be able to listen to that song again and nowadays I associate it with happy memories. When my aunt Margaret passed away, 2 songs stuck in my mind. The first was Altered Images song called Happy Birthday which was a big hit at the time. The second was something I always remember because of something my uncle said. After he was told his sister had died, the first song he heard on the radio was Alvin Stardusts version of Pretend - it had that line on the lyrics "pretend your happy when your blue, It isnt very hard to do". He hated the song before and needless to say he really hated it that day.
As for me, music has given me some great memories. I can remember the first time I ever heard A Night At The Opera. That was Christmas morning (around 4 in the morning) when my older brother, who got the album as a christmas pressie, stuck it on the record player. Magic memory that was. Yes Freddie and the boys were, and still are, quite a brilliant memory for me :)

Green Day's Good Riddance (Time of your life) is the song that has always reminded me of my mother (She died in 1999). It used to make me cry, but now when I hear it I can smile.
Great post, Missreclusive.
janet,
long time, how you doing?
ps - as regards "good riddance" love the song to bits, but it's not long enough (four years) for me to smile when i hear it...but it no longer devastates me, think it just grounds me back to earth temporarily
will use that song ^^^ and boston's "more than a feeling" for my own wake
Hello there Brenski! I'm hanging in there! :-)
Hope you're doing okay too, it has been awhile for sure!
I understand about not being able to smile yet...I lost my mom in 1999, lost my father in 2000....autoimmune disease and cancer, respectively. Its gotten to the point that I laugh and smile at good memories, and my siblings and I talk about them often. My older brother died suddenly of a heart attack in 2008, and gosh, it still breaks me up when I dwell on it for too long.
I love 'Good Riddance' too. One of my favorite songs ever!
