He had some decent solo material as well...some that I think was better than his efforts with Queen...just sayin... |
Arnaldo "Ogre-" Silveira 08.07.2011 19:50 |
How about Innuendo? Also, wasn't Under Pressure in it's initial stages a Roger song called People on the Streets? BTW, I love Rock It, but maybe that is why The Game was my first Queen album, which I got at the time of it's release. I am also absolutely nuts for Machines and I Go Crazy, both co-written with Brian. Oh, and if QPR counts, Cosmos Rocking and Surf's Up are great. Let us not also forget Invincible Hope (studio version): classic RT pop. And as for solo, I just love New Dark Ages, No More Fun (especially the TV version), Foreign Sand, Strange Frontier, Man on Fire and Let's Get Crazy. Mmmm... it seems like I do like Roger's songs... LOL Cheers, Ogre- |
Djdownsy 09.07.2011 04:08 |
How come Drowse never gets a mention in these things? Its a superb song, the lyrics are well written and the song is a major highlight on the ADATR album. |
dysan 09.07.2011 05:31 |
Roger Taylor is excellent. Here's my list, not in any order: Rock It Coming Soon Sheer Heart Attack Drowse Modern Times (Especially those later live ones EG Rainbow '74) ADRRFMD Tenement Funster Radio Gaga A King Of Magic Heaven For Everyone Haven't included ones credited to the whole band. Of the Cross and solo stuff, there's a great deal I like, but 'Shove It'? Christ on a bike no. |

Arnaldo: Innuendo is not Roger's. Way out of his league. Under Pressure is Freddie's and David's. I Go Crazy is just Brian's, not a collab. |
dysan 09.07.2011 07:08 |
Fact: Bowie wrote a song called 'People On The Streets' for his 1973 side project The Astronettes. It was unreleased until 1995. |

As for Innuendo and UP, those were just rumours I thought were true. The weird thing is that, for some reason, I always thought I go Crazy was a collaboration! I guess synapses go wild with age :) Back to the topic, Sheer Heart Attack, Tenement Funster and Modern Times Rock'n Roll are class. A Kind of Magic never really impressed me, but it was one of the highlights of the Argentinian QPR gig I managed to go. Roger sung it in his small catwalk kit and Brian went nuts during the solo. Cheers, Ogre- |

Oh! How could I forget "Coming Soon"? It's like the Energizer bunny of New Wave pop songs. It keeps going and going. I like how, eventhough it's repetitive, Freddie delivers the same lyrics slightly different, reachin higher notes each time. It's like a final journey before the grand finale (Save me). |

For Sebastian: I take it I hit a nerve???? If you don't like what I say dont comment on it baby! Constructive Criticism never hurts anyone, even with people who they own website. Learn something new every day, thats what I say baby! My Top 10: "Tenement Funster" (Sheer Heart Attack) "Drowse" (A Day at the Races) "Fight From the Inside" (News of the World) "I'm in Love with My Car" (A Night at the Opera) "Action This Day" (Hot Space) "A Kind of Magic" (A Kind of Magic) "Radio Ga Ga" (The Works) "Innuendo" (lyrics written by Taylor) (Innuendo) "Ride the Wild Wind" (Innuendo) 10. "The Invisible Man" (The Miracle) |
Holly2003 11.07.2011 16:22 |
I don;t understand why anyone would think Innuendo would be out of Roger's league. It is basically a four-chord song and even the complicated-sounding flamenco guitar solo Brian plays is basically a simple sequence built around three major chords A/G/F. The "dream sequence" is probably "out of his league" -- it's clearly Fred's idea, and Fred was a much more accomplished musician than Roger (and had more imagination and flair). The 2nd flamenco guitar is more complicated and I doubt Roger was involved in writing that. However, the bulk of the song is a simple as The Unblinking Eye. |
Sebastian 11.07.2011 17:00 |
> Constructive Criticism never hurts anyone, Indeed. And as such, take the following piece of constructive criticism: if you don't like people talking about who wrote what, don't read that. If you don't like the forum, leave. > Learn something new every day, thats what I say baby! And it's very wise of you to say that. Now, apply it: if you don't like people talking about who wrote what, don't read that. If you don't like the forum, leave. |

Djdownsy 12.07.2011 06:48 |
Jesus Sebastian, don't be so hard on your one, you cant tell someone to leave, just because you think you're a bigger fan than her. For the record, Innuendo was a jam, Roger DID write the original lyrics, but they were tweaked by all 4, and Freddie wrote most of the music. He was the one who turned it into the 6:31 epic it is. |
Sebastian 12.07.2011 11:01 |
I'm not telling anybody to leave. I'm offering a solution if they don't like the forum. And I don't consider myself to be a bigger (or smaller) fan than anybody else. |
Djdownsy 12.07.2011 12:34 |
Yeah but you implied it, just cut her some slack, if she keeps at it...well then, ill join in. :P And i apologise, that bigger fan thing was out of line, sorry. |
Sebastian 12.07.2011 12:54 |
Implying something is very different from 'telling someone to leave.' I don't care if s/he leaves or not, but I'm offering a solution. I don't like business reports on telly, so what do I do? When a business report is broadcast, I switch channel, or turn off the TV, simple as that. Same here: if s/he doesn't like what's written on this forum, s/he can leave, simple as that. |
GOATHEAD1985 12.07.2011 17:02 |

innuendo alway's turns into a who worte it argument.....as we all know, musically freddie took it over and wrote most of it (not all of it). roger started the lryics, and were mostly his, and freddie wrote the middle section of the Lryics. so, it's mainly a Freddie/Roger song. with the other two putting in little bits here and there. I personally would put Innuendo under freddie's name more than roger. A few interviews confirmed freddie took over this song, and it does have a freddie feel more than roger. |
Sebastian 13.07.2011 13:43 |
Actually, lyrically, it was the other way around: Freddie started off the lyrics, Roger wrote the rest of them (the rest still being the vast majority). And musically, John most likely didn't contribute a single note to that one. Brian, on the other hand, was a hell of a lot more involved than current 'canon'/'fanon' states (including my own web). |
GOATHEAD1985 13.07.2011 17:13 |

I'm probably wrong here, but I always thought Innuendo was a group effort. And by 'group effort' I mean all four members started off the fundamentals of the lyrics and music together and worked on it from there. If I'm right, Innuendo is one of the true 'Queen' songs from post-'89 (because, as we all know, all songs from that point onwards were credited to the whole band anyway). Can anybody try to support my theory - or otherwise, if you think my idea is off the wall? I guess we'll never know the truth. |
Sebastian 17.07.2011 12:06 |
Lyrically, it's not a group effort as it was started off by Freddie and completed by Roger. Musically, it's not a group effort as neither Roger nor John were involved. So no, it's not a group effort. |
