Imagine you meet somebody who has never ever heard of Queen, never seen any video or live performance. Which filmed performance of only 1 track would you pick to show to this person what queen were about. The performance on stage, the lights, the sound...everything. Live Aid eg may have been Freddie's finest hour, but it does in my opirion not really represent what queen were about, because it is a daylight performance without any light effects and not in front a Queen audience, moreover the other 3 members of the band were totally overshadowed by Freddie. I know all the stuff which is released officially and which circulates (Earls Court 77, Hyde Park, Houston 77 etc.) but I do not come to any result when I think of this question. Which performance that was filmed would you pick? Which performance does unite Freddies best voice, the most stunning performance by the band, the most spectacular lights and the 'best' song, best audience, best venue etc? Cheers |

I think the two qualifying performances are: a) Now I'm Here in 1979 Hammersmith Odeon - it is an energetic rock number b) Save Me in 1981 Montreal - the song has a soft section and a rock section. My choice would be Now I'm Here in 1979 Hammersmith Odeon. link |

If you're gonna show the now i'm here from hammersmith '79, please use this version. The quality is much better and it doesn't cut out the middle section: link |

Or i'd show this performance of somebody to love which shows how amazing of a live band queen was and how freddie connected with hundreds of thousands of people. I would show this over now i'm here link -you may have to copy and paste the link into the address bar |

I was thinking of that performance of Now I'm Here or Somebody to Love from Milton Keynes for tv I'd go for Crazy Little Thing Called Love from SNL |

For pure sound quality, I'd go with something from Rock Montreal, maybe Play The Game or Somebody To Love. If a decent audio mix was produced however you could go for something from Rio to show the magnitude of the crowd. I know that Freddie's voice wasn't at it's best in the later years, but Wembley 86 IS actually a quality gig, and has a great audience/band vibe, and the band, especially Freddie, are more relaxed than on a lot of releases - maybe Crazy Little Thing...from there then. |

Somebody to Love from Milton Keynes '82 and BoRhap from Wembley '86. Also, I have to say, I did this thing to a person who didn't knew too much about Queen, and after viewing he told me: "Wow! I was so blind all my life until now" =) |

Somebody to love at Milton Keynes is just awesome and i would show people that if they wanted to know more about Queen Also the wembley 86 gig i would and have shown people who have been suitably impressed |

I've always had a soft spot for Leroy Brown from Earl's Court. I don't know if that fits the criteria the original poster had in mind, but that's the first live take I heard of the band that truly impressed me, back when I still hadn't really heard their live stuff before. I saw that performance and just thought they were an incredibly versatile bunch of talented bastards. |

One song can never represent an entire band. I think the best cross-section of Queen is presented in the 1978-1982 period tours. If I had to choose a single concert, I would go with Hammersmith Odeon, December 26 1979, because IMHO it is the best compromise between setlist, performance and audio-visual quality available. |

The South America concerts were incredible. Large audiences, great venues and killer performances. |

Queenfreak1234: I found it on youtube a couple months ago. I believe it was from the absolute greatest concert collection that queen released along with the album. Ya i know it looks amazing!! I hope one day we see the rest of that concert in that quality and maybe an official release! |
tcc 01.10.2010 16:21 |
AT first I also thought it was from the AG bonus videos but if you see this Don't Stop Me Now from the same concert and uploader which was not in the AG bonus video, you can see that it is also in very good quality: link I wonder if there is a new improved version of that concert released now unofficially. |

Stone Cold Crazy. Rainbow '74 link Ogre Battle. Hammersmith '75 link White Man. Earl's Court '77 link Let Me Entertain You. Rock Montreal '82 link That's all that comes to my mind right now. |
jamster1111 01.10.2010 18:50 |
tcc: Yes that's because that is from another source which is also in high quality (notice that the quality isnt quite as good as now im here). We have I'm In Love With My Car, parts of Don't Stop Me Now, Now I'm Here, and Crazy Little Thing Called Love in high quality from that concert however they come from different sources |
neokaden 01.10.2010 19:04 |
whatever the crazy tour at Hammersmith Odeon 1979 is a very good example, and any interpretración this concert gives interpretración thousand kicks to any other concert. link |

Favourite performance is a hard one. Most live clips from 77 - 82 stand out.....such as:: The Millionaire Waltz - Houston 77 link Doing All Right - Earls Court 75 link If you can't beat them - Paris 79 link Let Me Entertain You - Munich 79 link |

neokaden wrote: That concert (Hammy 79) is whether or if being released on DVD. Why are so foolish not to launch?,: S Look at this version of bohemian rhapsody eg link ===== As I've stated here before, Greg Brooks offered the following explanation: they have the full video and a *stereo* audio-track to go with that. There was a multitrack of the audio, but they can't find it. It might have been stolen, it might have been lost. They are trying (though admittedly not very hard) to find it, but are unwilling to release this concert while they still have other concerts to which they *do* have multitrack audio available. I don't know how up-to-date this is (the information was given to me in an e-mail in late 2008), and I don't know how accurate this is, but it is the closest thing to an official statement there is, for now. If, by any chance, someone here is familiar with a multitrack of Hammersmith '79, more information is welcome. |
