This is my first post, please be kind. I've been a reader of these boards for something like 4 years now. I really don't mean to be insensitive about this really serious and personal topic, as I really have nothing but love and respect for Freddie and everyone involved around. Some years ago I saw an Interview with Roger during a Queen TV Special in which he mentioned that Freddie went through Chemotherapy. My Question is: Did Freddie ever experience any Chemo-Related Hair Loss and did he ever had to wear a hairpiece?
Another thing that has occured to me is that the beard he had during the Miracle-era Videos (+ Headlong Video, shot in November 1990) was absent on most documented material from his final months, though he most likely shaved it off, I'm wondering if this was a side effect from his Chemotherapy.
As far as I know, Freddie only had chemotherapy for a short period of time. He was diagnosed with a form of skin cancer associated with AIDS that is quite treatable. If he did lose any hair, it was probably for a short period of time only.
If you look closely at the 'Headlong' video you can actually see where they have matted a 'black spot' over his crown due to obvious 'thinning on top' - As he bangs his fist on the console. Without name dropping, I do remember Jim Hutton telling me that he had a double crown which may have given the appearance of thinning.
Freddie started losing his hair in the 70's. There are some shots from the Concert for Kampuchea where you can clearly see Freddie losing his hair the crown area of his head.
If he was treated for skin cancer (most likely kaposis sarcoma) it was palliative and not curative. The amount of chemotherapy is not likely to have caused his hair to fall out (alopecia), but it,s possible. He may have shaved his hair shorter anticipating hair loss.
