KATY PERRY was left dumbstruck when she met BRIAN MAY - and the QUEEN legend compared the pop singer to her idol FREDDIE MERCURY. The I Kissed A Girl hitmaker has long cited Mercury - who died in 1991 - as the biggest influence on her musical career and is even planning to get a giant tattoo of the late star's face etched on her back. So Perry was delighted when Mercury's Queen bandmate May came backstage to meet her after a show in London last week (10Jun09). She writes on her blog, "I was oh so flattered and nervous to play infront of him. He was so sweet and my stalker side came out for sure. If you haven't gotten into the amazingness that was/is Queen, get into it." And May was equally enraptured by Perry - taking to his own blog to praise the singer and liken her stage presence to that of Mercury. He writes, "I walked in and there was Katy Perry and a hot young band tearing it up to an audience who responded to every note, and seldom sat down. No clicks, no backing tracks, no mime show... no huge production... no pretence. Just a really great young singer and artist, pouring her heart out. "But the best thing of all is her command of mood. Katy sings and talks lightly, full of cheeky humour, but, at the drop of a hat... before you realise it's happened... she has changed gear and is singing a serious song with a natural honesty and emotion... and you are in her grip. She's a true entertainer. |

It could have been that he was just asked to support a young artist. And he agreed to do it, since Katy's favourite singer is Freddie. And, guys, he may have been paid for it...Sometimes things like that happen in showbusiness. But his comparing Katy to Freddie is unacceptable, what was he thinking about when he did that??? I am shocked. Who is Katy, who's that? She will be forgotten in some 2 years. There are hundreds of such Katys if not more. So, it must have been a joke. i can't believe that Brian actually did that. |

Oh PLEASE! Enough of the blind devotion and outright rejection of the idea that anyone can be compared to Freddie! I've been a HUGE Queen fan since the 70's, and Freddie is one of my biggest inspirations as a singer and writer, but come on! It is so weird to see someone (apparently) fight blind devotion with blind devotion. We can disagree with Brian if we want, can't we? I thought this was a forum. *looks around the page* Oh wow, it is! I do agree some people are complete cunts about it but really, the bottom line is; if people are clever enough to spot that Katy Perry stinks and that Brian is a bit heavy in his praise, then surely they can write about it. |

Really guys, Brian did not compare Kathy Perry to Freddie, he simply opinioned that she was a skilled live performer and that he was very impressed with her show, that's all. What's wrong with that? Freddie used to go on about how Boy George was amazing and would be around forever........see, even Fred wasn't infallable!!! Does Brian May no longer have the right to say he really enjoyed another artists performance without Queen fans assuming he's comparing them to Freddie or automatically planning of replacing Freddie with yet another Queen+ singer now Paul Rogers is back with Bad Company. If we're honest, that's what this debate is about, as Queen fans we are scared shitless that Brian and Roger will tour again under the Queen moniker with an even more inferior fronthman thus dilutiing the history of Queen and diminishing the name of the band.
