I haven't heard a single one of those.
there you are then,im educating the masses on 'must have' songs :-]
Led Zeppelin - Stairway To Heaven
Sex Pistols - Bodies
Ramones - Beat On The Brat
Iron Butterfly - In a gadda da vida
Deep Purple - Child In Time
The Clash - Know Your Rights
The Scorpions - Wind Of Change
John Lennon - Imagine
The Knack - My Sharona
Black Sabbath - Sabbath Bloody Sabbath
Queen - Modern Times Rock'n'Roll
Metallica - The Day That Never Comes
Where would I even start? Okay, here are 5 songs which I regard as essential, but they are not necessarily the most essential songs of all time.
1)Bohemian Rhapsody (Queen)- not my favourite Queen song, but it arguably is the most representative of Queen and is almost certainly the group's masterpiece.
2)Yesterday (The Beatles)- IMO the best song by probably the best group of all time.
3)American Pie (Don McLean)- I know that some people hate it, but IMO it is one of music's greatest triumpths. The first time I heard it, I was so stunned by it's quality that I listened to it close to a dozen times. I'm no longer obsessed by it, however I remain convinced that it's a masterpiece.
4) (Sittin' On) The Dock of the Bay (Otis Redding)- a truly beautiful song by one of the most extraordinary singers of all time.
5)Respect (Aretha Franklin)- Arguably the best song from arguably the greatest female singer of all time.
1. Apostrophe - Frank Zappa
2. Moonage Daydream - David Bowie
3. Hotel California - Eagles
4. Vienna - Ultravox
5. Fade to Grey (12" Extended Version) - Visage
American Pie (Don McLean), Sara (Fleetwood Mac), Jealous Guy (Roxy Music) are close to top5 as well.
My favourite band is Queen, they have solid stuff, but I really can't put any of their songs in top5. If Save Me from Hammersmith79 would be released, it would be on my list.
