Thank you very much for sharing your really nice recording with us! I think it's really important to preserve the quality of recordings like this and am very gratefull that you also uploaded it in lossless quality as FLAC. Another important thing ist to keep track of the lineage, that's why I created a info file from your posts here at queenzone. Everybody who cares about these things should add it the downloaded files and never ever share this recording without the info or in any lossy format. Thank you again, pavlov! |

Lossless recording of a lossy broadcast ? |
manu-86-mi 24.05.2009 06:09 |
Hello guys. I downloaded this concert and enjoyed it very much. Many thanks to uploader!! Actually I think this is a lossless recording of a lossy broadcast. But I think it is a normal thing when the source is a radio FM broadcasting. FM is not good enough as CD. Usually frequency response in radio FM is 20 Hz ~ 15 KHz (16KHz), so I think this concert is NOT lossy but even lossless as we all know (CD quality). The same result (as Audiochecker shown above) is happened using TLH with detect mode = '0'. (See attached file) Using Adobe Audition 1.5 I checked all frequencies of all songs and something particular has been noticed. If you analize a wav file from a lossy source you can see a cut off at 15/16 KHz. This time there's no cut off and at this particular frequency (18900 Hz) the volume increases insanely to return lower afterwards. It is as a Gaussian distribution where the maximum value of y (volume) is given by x = 18900 Hz (frequency). I'm not so good in this materia, but I think it is something that has to do with Radio FM source. Probably the signal is broadcasted with selective frequency filters (perhaps they cut 15~17 KHz frequencies and let pass the 17~19 KHz). I have a pretty trained ear and when I listen to it, it sounds nice, but even strange in its way. High frequencies can be heard, but there's a hole in the middle, how if some frequencies was filtered. As I always say, it's the RADIO sound :) Radio has its own sound. I don't know how to explain that! This DOES NOT happen if you analize a 'true' wav (from a lossless source). No cut off at 15 KHz but at about 20 KHz as it is right to be. Any suggestions? |
Ale Solan 16.06.2009 21:26 |
Reading all of this again... I was wondering, pavlov, not sure if I asked this properly, but do your cut WAVs have the same fade in/out than the mp3 version? |
