I think it'd be interesting to find out how everyone on this board became a Queen fan...IE what specific event or thought or feeling happened in your life that triggered it? For myself, I became a fan because of the show Will and Grace. I was obsessed with Sean Hayes! He reminded me of my 9th grade calculus teacher. Don't ask my why I never developed a crush on Eric McCormack, who played "Will". He definitely has a strong physical resemblance to Freddie and even played the role of Freddie Mercury in a (broadway?) play a while back. At the series finale, they used the song "My Best Friend". I loved the song and how they used it in the show. I had no clue who performed the song but I wanted it so I looked it up on YouTube. I was surprised it was by Queen. I only vaguely had a picture of the lead singer as a pale, dark haired guy with an overbite. I actually thought he was very pale! I watched the video and the attraction to Freddie was instant. He looked much darker that I previously pictured him...exotic like a foreigner yet his skin had a beautiful light olive glow to it. I loved him instantly. Needless to say my obsession with Sean Hayes and Will and Grace just kind of ....faded away :) Of course I could always go back and start watching Will and Grace reruns again so I could start a crush on Eric McCormack, simply because he looks like Freddie (It's the dark coloring, eyes, high cheekbones and full lips). Maybe I will! |

Also, what exactly kind of crap did you post on here if you hadn't the foggiest about that which you were posting? |

When Freddie died in '91, my mother bought GH1&2 and listend to them all day (and loud!) First I was annoyed, everything what your parents do sucks when you are 12 years old, but when BoRap sounds through our house the first time, I was blown away. I never heard something like this before and was amazed what a cool band they where. Short time later, I rushed into a record store and bought "Live Killers" (only because of the frontcover - long haired Guys & A LOT of lights; they must kick ass!!). It is one of my favourite Albums still today. From this day on, they where my number one..(unfortunatly, a few month later I heard an well-known Canadian power trio for the first time..and Queen was "only" number two from then on ;-) |

I first discovered Queen in 1994, when my father bought ANATO; I was 6 then. I really liked the music, but I became 'Queen crazy' just with 13 - I decided to buy the Greatest Flix VHS; so when I first 'saw' Bohemian Rhapsody, I thought (gazing at an effeminate Freddie Mercury) "wow, what a beautiful and emotional man" :). That's how it all started... Now, I just realise how unique their music is and appreciate everything they've achieved. |

In 1978 I was played Bicycle Race as it had a Star Wars connection - was hugely impressed with the film and the toys as a 4 year old. And got the buzz from there. Have lost amost all of the interest (and subsequently sold my relatively impressive collection) in the years since Freddie passed away - the organisation is a shambles and a joke. |

Not 100% positive on how it happend, I think it was just there...yes I know that sounds lame. I also always loved the highlander movie. The biggest time period I can remeber is trying to find the Highlander TV theme song, knowing it was by Queen, but not knowing the name of the song. This was long before I had internet access, so anytime I found an inexpensive queen cd I bought it. It took a long time to find that song, but I was never dissapointed with what i got instead. So i kept buying more, and loving all of it. Now I have a vast collection, and my friends think I need a support group, and that I will magically appear whenever Queen plays on the radio, because I have some strange link with it.....the funny part is it has acctually happend a few times. Ie: friends in the mall, Under Pressure plays on the intercom, I walk around the corner and my friends see me. So yeah, thats my story. |

I discovered Queen´s Greatest Hits album when I was 10 years old...! =P |
steven 35638 15.11.2007 18:54 |
It all started when a friend and I were listening to the radio while playing some violent video games. We heard Bohemian Rhapsody, and then a couple of days later I heard We Will Rock You and We Are The Champions on the radio. Very soon after I bought Queen's Greatest Hits (Hollywood Records), and thus was the beginning of my Queen obsession! |

I still like Mott's music though and had the pleasure of seeing Ian Hunter a month ago. Respect!!! |

When I was in my early teens, one day in PE class I happened to see some girls practicing a dance they created for the dance contest of our school to the tune I'd never heard before. My ears were fixed to that tune, especially the impressive lead vocal and the chorus part "KILLER QUEEEEN" , both of which I found so beautiful. I felt as if I was suddenly obsessed with that tune, because it continued playing repeatedly in my head all day long that day. It took very little time for me to find the band name Queen. Greatest Hits I is the first I bought. The more I listened to their songs, the more I came to love them. So, I decided to buy all of their albums in release order. I wanted to experience the same feeling as the one of people who looked forward to the release of their album. Anyway that's how I got into Queen. |

In 2004 there was a Viagra commercial on TV. The depicted men (actors) who took the product were leaping in the air with great happiness. In the background was the song We Are The Champions. Perhaps if I were male and had ED and it was a solution, I would have been leaping in the air, too. However, at the time I thought that was the most mismatched commercial/music I had ever seen and thought, "Who sings that song, anyway?" I googled and that was that! |

We had just 1 (maybe 2) TV channel out here in India back in 1991, and my entire family used to sit and watch "The World This Week" - a weekly round up of news from around the world. They showed footage of King Mercury from the Magic Tour (probably Wembley) and they said he had died of AIDS. I was 10 years old, understood very little English and had zero knowledge of western/rock music. But I remembered the name because they said this guy was of "Indian origin", and this was also the first time I had heard of the disease. In 1993 my uncle came visiting from abroad and gifted me his collection - Boney M, ABBA, Michael Jackson. I still did not know anything about Queen but got some exposure of western music, eventhough what I was hearing was alreday outdated (did not know that at the time). I started tuning in to FM radio stations and one of the those had a daily 1-hour western music show. I liked what I heard, and they also played Queen numbers like Ga Ga and Magic. They never forgot to mention Fred's name and his India connection :)and I really liked the numbers. The late 90s saw the introduction of cable TV, and I had at my disposal an entire TV channel that played western music 24/7 - MTV. What MTV did was that it opened me up to a lot of contemporary western music, and I developd a liking for the harder stuff. They hardly played any classic videos, but I do remember being shocked once watching 4 men dressed in women's clothes and incredibly it was Queen again. I felt the need to hear more from this band but was not a fan or anything, not yet. Come 2000, I got my first PC and guy who set it up for me also put a lot of mp3s, and that included WWRY, WATC(I had heard these before, but did not know that they were Queen numbers), IWTBF, TMLWKY. I realiased that I had liked every song of this band that I heard, and that was a first. I started working soon, so purchased some CDs (very difficult to get their material over here in Mumbai) and soon I was a hard-core fan. There are very few Queen numbers that I find boring, and I like their lesser known numbers more than the popular ones. I prefer hard rock today, which causes me to drift to GnR, Led Zepp, but for me its still Queen on one side and all others on the other. |

We are the champions and We will rock you were the first two songs I heard of Queen in 1979 in Argentina were I'm from. It was at a party. I loved the songs. When I came back to the States I bought the Greatest Hits 1 LP. I heard Bohamian Rhapsody and fell in love wih the song. I did not followed the group any more, I guess is because here, in the states, they were not very famous. Then five years ago I heard on the car radio We Are The Champions and felt very nostalgic. I went to my mother's house and digged out the album. Then started buying more CD, found Queenzone, learned a lot about Queen and Freddie and became fascinated with Queen and their music. I feel so happy to have found them, their music means a lot to me. I just wish I went to one concert. If I stayed in Argentina till 1981 I may have gone to the concert in Buenos Aires, some of my friends went. Oh well, it was not written in the stars. |

Hello, I got to know the magnificent Queen not by a “special event” but for their absolutely amazing music, when a Mexican radio station I used to hear (which now does not exist anymore), played Bohemian Rhapsody and then Somebody to Love…Brathtaking!!...I was a teenagerthen, I got really impressed : the music, the chorus, everything was so unique…¡it still is! (at least for me). Then I wanted to know what they were saying so I studied English .I was at the Ignacio Zatragoza Stadium in Puebla and I could not believe my eyes, nor my ears for it was a fantastic show!!! .Eventually I became an English teacher. Now I am so delighted to see their music is still magical even for the new generations. Queen Rocks! Regards, |

There was a queen song (friends will be friends actually) in my english book back in 7th grade in finland, and i remembered that my mother has few albums of this band on lp. Well, i listened them ( actually they were: Sheer heart attack, Jazz, Hot space.)The songs that got me going, was brighton rock, and lily of the valley. Especially the later is still one of my favourites. I was stunned by the brilliant harmonies and Freddies great voice christmas came, and i asked my father, could you buy me Queens greatest hits II. i didn´t know a single song on the tracklist, but my father said, "Oh look at that, there are some of my favourite songs in this album, sure i´ll buy you one !!" When i got the cd, i realized that i had heard these great songs before never realizing the band was Queen. Bigger surprise came to me when i bought greatest hits I. It had so many good songs i had heard before, not knowing that it was queen. BTW i now have some queen albums both lp and cd, and IMHO, some albums are better on lp than on cd. Maybe cd is too polished for some rockers |

Let's go back to 1997. On a hot summer day I was at my grandmother's attic. There was a bunch of crap on there belonging to my aunts and uncles and it was just really cool to play around there with all the old stuff. On one day I found this black box with gold lettering... Inside I found 14 LP's! The lettering said Queen - The Complete Works (ofcourse :)). I took it home without asking and played it on our old hifi set with LP player (if I remember well, the CD player was broken :P). I heard 1 song... Copied everything to tape (as I wasn't allowed to keep the box :() and since then that's the only music that's ever played here :) |

I was 9 at the time it happened. The day . The begining of the rest of my life. Anyway I was bored and my only good CD's were Sclub 7, Avril, and Busted which I listened to way too much. So I was like "Hmm i bet daddy has CD's I could listen to" So I put on a Johnny Cash CD and I cried it was so awful. I put on Led Zep (which i love now btw) and I cried because it was too loud (hey i was only 9!) and then I saw it. The golden CD. The album by Queen "News of the world" and i put it in the player. I love all the songs so i found all my dads Queens cds and listened to them. My dad was sooo proud. That was 5 years ago and im still in love with Queen |

i became a fan because of a schoolmate of mine named Garrett. we knew each other from 6th grade, but in 8th grade we shared the same Advanced Arts class, and one day he walked in before class began and told me all about how he bought the soundtrack to Highlander and Queen recorded all of the songs, but considering he was also into AC/DC, Judas Priest and Kiss, bands i'm not all that interested in, i figured Queen was some hardcore metal hair thrasher band. XD but more than a year later i was at walmart with my mother to plow through the after xmas mark-down sales, and Queen's 1992 Greatest Hits caught my eye, and i bought it. didn't get into them til that following march, but i've been hooked since then. Garrett got me into The Rocky Horror Picture Show as well...bless him. |

I must admit I am a relatively recent fanatic of Queen...only heavily started listening to them last year. My dad always liked AOBTD so I had grown up with that. I bought an iPod last year, and I had that song, WWRY, WATC, Bicycle Race, and Bohemian Rhapsody. I just loved Freddie's voice on Bicycle Race, it was so pure and amazing and hot. I also fell in love with Bo Rhap. I then got Greatest Hits from the library, ripped the songs, loved them and added some more. In the months following, I watched anything I could YouTube, maniacally did Queen quizzes, searched for info on websites, etc. I don't know what I would have done had I never listened to Bicycle Race! |
