*Sigh* I think J K Rowling should have made Snape gay, then he could have been in love with Harry's father rather than his mother and then he could have fallen in love with Har- Oops. I'll stop there. I not only seem to be taking this too seriously, but I've also turned in to a bit of a pervert. |

Haha. Her last fly-blown shit-heap excuse for a novel hasn't even been out two months and she already has to revise her own folklore with pointless information that no thinking human cares about. JK Rowling, you are a smelly, pus filled whore. Hitler had the right idea with the book burning, but he should've waited 70 years until all the Harry Potter books were out. |
beautifulsoup 22.10.2007 11:23 |
Sheesh. I don't care that Dumbledore was gay, but I'm pissed at JK Rowling for telling us via a chat. Either let us know in the actual books, or wait until the rumored "Harry Potter Encyclopedia" to let us know. It's like she couldn't wait- it's yet another way for her to keep in the public eye. <<rolls eyes>> **I *like* the HP books**; it's just JK Rowling that annoys me no end. And she had NO RIGHT to out Dumbledore! Doesn't she know that it's a personal decision for the gay person (in this case, wizard) to make? Dumbledore should have been the one to tell us! :P |
beautifulsoup 22.10.2007 11:24 |
And what's next? Professor McGonagall was a transsexual? Hagrid was fucking Buckbeak on the sly? That's the REAL reason he was upset that there will plans to kill him. |

Kinda funny how this gay-friendly website has Harry Potter discussions all the time? But you all go on thinking it's cool. I can see thru it, though. The series is OVER. There are no more books to write. Her next work will never be the magnitude that HP was. So now that every kid HAS the book, how do I drum up even more publicity and craze? Ah, get them to ban the book! How do I do that? Bring out a gay character!!! Now, sit back and watch as all these dumb-ass schools and institutions start banning HP! You know what happens to banned books, right? They sell like hotcakes!!! I hope you all kept your first editions in mint condition, cause this will surely help. I guarantee you this story line was never in her mind when she first started writing these books. |

<font color="#FF00FF">its_a_hard_life wrote:Why you'd believe this is beyond me. Writers put a lot of thought into who their characters are and were well before they even start writing the book. And, for the record, she didn't just out this character for the hell of it. She'd just corrected a scene for the 6th movie where Dumbledore thinks back on past loves/lovers. When it referred to women in his past, she crossed it out and wrote, "Dumbledore is gay". It explains much of this character's angst for those actually interested in character development. And if you think about it, it makes sense that she'd say it to the audience at the college. It was on her mind that people didn't realize this important fact about a main character. And if outting him helps to fill her pockets even more, so what?Micrówave wrote: I guarantee you this story line was never in her mind when she first started writing these books. That's okay Magicalfreddie, I've been called worse. You're an "author", in your profile, so I'll just call you NIAVE. You've got a lot to learn. So you're saying that Rowling was going over notes for the screenplay when she "came out" with this? Huh? You mean the millions of people who have already read the sixth book COMPLETELY MISSED THIS? And only when Rowling was going over notes for the screenplay...? If that makes me a homophobe, you're a brainophobe. |

In that part of my post I was actually referring to the anger others have with Rowling's earnings. You didn't express that. You're view, as you stated here, makes sense. After all, it's fiction. He accepted the role only because his Granddaughter was a big fan. If questionable sexuality was ever discussed in the role, he would not have accepted it. You can go ahead and look that up. |
AspiringPhilosophe 22.10.2007 14:42 |
I'm actually glad that JKR finally got the guts to do something controversial. I was BRUTALLY disappointed with the last book from the standpoint of the ending. I mean, come on!! She wusses out of killing him and decides to go with the sugary, sappy "And they all lived Happily Ever After" scenario....pfft. This is a cop out for a writer as brilliant as she is. She didn't have the guts to kill Harry off. But at least she had the guts to be able to make Dumbledore gay. I suspected he was from about the end of book 5, but it was never confirmed. |
Mr.Jingles 22.10.2007 15:15 |
The question that now remains is... Was Dumbledore a mailman or a mailbox? |
Micrówave 22.10.2007 15:32 |
Or did he just lick the stamps? But it makes me wonder, wasn't this originally intended to be a story for "all ages"? Why would anybody praise the author for throwing this kind of crap in there? Why don't we make Big Bird gay? Oh that would be so great! Let's change the Barney theme to Frankie's Relax? Maybe the Red Trolley could stop at the adult book store on the way back to Mr. Rogers' living room. I mean every 5 year old should be vividly aware of just what gay is and that it's ok to grow up that way. |

"Why anyone except homophobes would be pissed off about this is a wonder to me." Oh take your hand off of it!! If anything, the only people that don't care are probably homophobes.... why would it bother them that this crotchety old bitch with sand in her vagina is exploiting a whole sexual orientation to try and find cheap publicity for her sub-standard novels? As if she needs any more attention! No one with half a brain would be bothered simply because Dumbledore is gay. It's the ridiculousness of an author inventing a non-existant backstory for a character she'll probably never use again (until she gambles her money away or loses it in bad investments). And for more on the practice of revisionism in literature of questionable standards, see George Lucas and Star Wars. Mr. "I wrote it all in 1974"... suuuuuure thing Georgie! |

This is so stupid!! How can you say something about characters as if they were real persons. Fictional characters don't excist outside the books. So if the books don't say he was gay, he wasn't gay. |

Some people would say once we read the books, the characters exist in our minds. They have their own name, looks, opinions, etc, just like real people. Therefore, even if something isn't written in the book, the author can tell us, as the character exists in our minds, and we can add extra info to them. |
