They are probably releasing stuff like this in the US to try and boost their popularity. Walmart seems to get several exclusive releases. In fact the new Eagles album with be an exclusive Walmart release in the US. |
Michael Allred 10.07.2007 08:36 |
walmart.com says it's "online only" so I suppose that means you can't buy it in stores? brianmay.com mentioned this was the second exclusive wal-mart release so what was the first one? |

Ok gang, I picked the CD up today (yes, it was for sale at the store.) Not much in the way of liner notes, just your basic song title, songwriter stuff with an insert promoting a grab bag of other titles ("The Game," "A Day at the Races," etc.) The CD contains the music we already have. the bonus DVD doesn't just have the music videos for the songs listed but also includes live performances of said songs. Bonus DVD: 1- A Kind of Magic from Video Hits 2 DVD 2- Another One Bites the Dust live from On Fire at the Bowl DVD 3- Bohemian Rhapsody from Video Hits 1 DVD 4- I Want It All from Return of the Champions DVD 5- Crazy Little Thing Called Love from live at Wembley Stadium DVD 6- Don't Stop Me Now from Video Hits 1 DVD 7- Fat Bottomed Girls from return of the Champions DVD 8- Innuendo music video 9- an interview segment that was on the Live at Wembley Stadium DVD Each song is preceded by the DVD cover from which it originated except "Innuendo" which obviously is on no other DVD as yet. The audio for the DVD is Dolby Digital 2.0 only. So there ya go. I'm sure the inclusion of the Queen+ Paul Rodgers stuff will anger some fans but after the dull "Stone Cold Classics" also included material from "Return of the Champions," should we really be surprised? |
DavidRFuller 10.07.2007 14:36 |

I know people will post as if they are enlightening all of us but the truth is that I have learned that YES I understand and agree how releasing too many compilations or certain things too many times can be bad BUT there is actually good news about this being that anything can be put out of print. As long as the excess releases are kept to a minimum (and eventually put out of print hopefully they will serve the purpose of not only increasing sales all around for Queen (and the interest in the Paul Rodgers collaborations) but raise the interest level of them as well with the general public. ...and what a GORGEOUS cover for this release! |

They would also probably be surprised that some of their fans are pitching such a fit over the fact that the largest US retailer approached them for a throwaway store exclusive release and they obliged. Some of you are acting like its the greatest betrayal of the 21st century. I seriously doubt this meaningless little release will set back work on boxed sets, archival DVD releases, or new albums, assuming there's any work actually being done on anything like that in the first place. Some of you people get up in arms over the most trivial things. Its a low priority release directed at promoting the brand - so low, in fact, that no one knew anything about it until it was already on sale. Big deal. If you think its such a travesty, don't buy it - which is what most of the world will also be doing. Otherwise who really gives a shit? |

I'm hoping that all those people who think this is a sell out are not the same people who complain about the lack of promotion for Queen in the States. When I went to WalMart (and Sam's Club) last night, this CD occupied some nice rack space in the music section of America's largest retailer. And judging by the use of titles on Vol 1, I'm guessing that this is intended to be a 3 volume set. |

I don't get worked up about compilation albums - they exist to attract new people to the catalogue, and as long as there is no forced add-on to "make" me buy it, "what's the big fucking deal, dude?" The issues occur when the collector/ hardcore-oriented material is amended/cancelled due to "lack of popular appeal"..... |
steven 35638 13.07.2007 21:55 |
I'm going to take a brief moment to say that I have in fact purchased The A-Z of Queen Volume I. With all honesty I was impressed with the album art and also feel that this might just attract all those Americans who are unaware or neglect Queen. The track listing for the CD is colorful and displays the band's unique variety and showmanship. Furthermore, the DVD gives those new listeners a beautiful way of getting to know the band's character. I was also pleased to find that this "Wal-Mart Exclusive" includes two free ringtones and even a cellphone wallpaper. I suppose I've changed my mind about the band's overdose in compilations. It does seem right, especially with this one, that Queen should do everything in its power to maintain some sort of staying power so that their music never diminishes in the eye of the public. The only thing I wish Queen would do in the future is re-release all their albums in a more stylish and unpredictable way. It's hard to explain, but I simply want a 'collector's edition.' Something that's more concrete and official, if that makes any sense. Anyway, I recommend buying this new Queen compilation, it's worth it. |

Maybe there's going to be an A-Z series that includes other artists as well(?). Since this is Volume 1 and it only gets to "I" I'm wondering how many more volumes there will be?!? And yeah the tracklisting gives a good cross-section of their different musical styles...good dose of hard rock mixed with the campier stuff. |
