Hello you every queenies of the world,
I would like to talk about the Brian May collaborations with other artists. As you know he was a champion for having a jam with other bands or artists, be it live or in the studios.
Well, talking about the studio ones, I would like to talk about the difference of sounds you can hear, depending of course of the style of music he was playing and of the way the recordings were produced.
I think about two or three tracks, that come to my mind now. For example, hearing him playing the blues on the Don Nix album was great, the Red Special sounded as it always sounded when he played the blues. On the Black Sabbath "Headless Cross" also we can hear its guitar, but the sound is not that "clean" as on Don Nix.
the Red Special sounded well also on Donegan "Diggin' On My Potatoes", or on the D-Rock tracks, in its quite usual way, but once more in two musical styles very different. The wah-wah pedal on "New Damage" with Soundgarden was a strange kind of think, Brian rockier than ever.
But as far the "Circles" track with Quartz (a collavortion from 1977 that just surfaced a fex years ago), its guitar work is hardly noticeable.... What do you think about that ?
Do you have any thoughts concerning Brian work with other artists ? What are the other collaborations you know where Brian's work seems a little obsure or strange ? And what about the Quartz collaboration ?
Thanks a lot, queenies, it's your turn now to express your thoughts and share your ideas !!
Rock On till you fall, you queenies, Brian May and the guys continue to rock the world and... Blow The House Down !!
Olivier,
France
I've not listen all of those you named here but probably your right. 'couse you showed that you've considered very good on Brians collaborations.
whats your email please?
I hear ya. I recently tried to compile a bunch of collaborations and I have about 5 hours' worth and still counting.
Brian seems unable to say "no" to people :)
I was commenting on these collaborations and said, basically, that Brian's guitar solos can save any song.
Excuse my brash opinionation here, but "Raining in My Heart" is utter shite, except for Brian's solo. "Stay with Me Tonight" sounds just like every other Rick Astley clone of his time, yet the solo rips into your gut and pulls out a steaming pile of awesome.
All Hail Brian! All Hail the Red Special!
Hello again, many thanks for the link to the brian May "box set" topic, but my own goal here is not to try and list the most exhausted list of Brian collaborations !! Well, I would be glad to get the few some I could still miss, but that's not exactly the goal of this topic.
I'd like us to discuss about the strangest ones Brian made, or the funniest, etc... Everybody knows now how he could get serious in his work, and sometimes he went the opposite, as on the Bad News tracks and so on.
We all know he was good guitarist enough to "save" one trac when he was asked to, you were right, "Raining In My Heart" was not that good for example, but hey, Brian was there to add his parts, and the track changed a lot.
I talked about the Quartz track, "Circles", as a starting point to this discussion, just to start somewhere ! It's the last track I found, and I'm quite puzzled with this one.... Did someone hear it and could express his own thoughts about this track ?
Of course if you have some more tracks you want to discuss, then let's go !!
as you maybe understood with the rare few topics I launched on queenzone.com (wonderful site isn't it ?) I'm for the moment more specialized in Bri
... (oops my message stopped)
in Brian May collaborations and work, I also have other centers of interest in the queen music, of course, like the live work and so on...
well, maybe do someone want to have a little talk about these Brian May collaborations, Queenzone is open for us so let's use it !!
Thank you all Queenies in the world.
Happy (cloudy) weekend from France.
Olivier.
