Queen Munich, Germany Basketball Halle February 11, 1979 This is a fantastic recording straight from TV. If nobody else does, I'll eventually share the DVD too, when I've got a bit more time to share something that big. The audio is truly excellent quality. It sounds about as good as Live Killers, but mono. Too bad only 7 tracks were ever broadcasted. GSTQ cuts out a bit early, so I spliced in the last few seconds from another DVD source. Both DVDs weren't encoded to their fullest quality potential, so one might argue that this share is lossy. I'll leave it to the experts to decide. Either way, this is the best recording I've found over years of collecting. If anyone has a better one, I'll be happy to be trumped out on this one. Lineage: 1991 German TV rebroadcast > VHS (0) > DVD (1) > WAV > FLAC level 8 Lineage of the last few seconds: TV > VHS (x) > DVD (x) > WAV > FLAC level 8 Let Me Entertain You Now I'm Here Bohemian Rhapsody (part) Sheer Heart Attack We Will Rock You We Are The Champions God Save The Queen Here are the links to both parts: link link Distribute these files only if they are left completely unaltered, and always include the lineage information. As always with my shares (and preferably everybody else's!), be sure that this recording is not made available at Queenzone or elsewhere in mp3 or any other lossy format. Keep lossless files lossless. :) Enjoy! |

@SirGH: (Sorry for the off-topic, but I think it's interesting not only for me.) I have two MP3 versions of the Frankfurt 1980 show that were shared on QZ earlier, one called "Imagine Queen", encoded with 112 kB/s (from March 2006) and one from December 2005 in 192 kB/s. No real difference between the two, though. Do you know those? The quality is about VG-, tendency to VG, very loud audience, a bit distorted with some tape flutter and drop-outs. I'm sure that your versions both are better than mine, and they're lossless. I don't know why I'm so fascinated about that show, but it has something special, like all the Frankfurt shows. It's rough and dirty, somehow exciting. Would you mind sharing a sample, or do you have serious hopes of getting a superior version in the near future? |

Arnaldo "Ogre-" Silveira 09.05.2007 21:43 |
Thank you so much! The recording is excelent, the band is doing an awesome job and Freddie's voice seems to be tired, so he takes it easier than usual, which I find very interesting, due to the difference it generates :D Cheers, Ogre- |

Thank you very much. That's a nice download, the sound quality is awesome. But what are those strange echoes in Freddie's Mix? Was that live – intended or not – or is it mixed in afterwards? Sounds like an "inverted" echo, before the actual, louder voice. |

Nummer2 wrote: @SirGH: (Sorry for the off-topic, but I think it's interesting not only for me.)No worries... I hardly think you can be accused of hijacking a Queen thread by talking about Queen! :P I have two MP3 versions of the Frankfurt 1980 show that were shared on QZ earlier, one called "Imagine Queen", encoded with 112 kB/s (from March 2006) and one from December 2005 in 192 kB/s. It's rough and dirty, somehow exciting.Indeed, it's a crazy show, along with the '82 one! I love 'em both. But right now, the '80 show makes for a frustrating listen, because of the ROIO/bootleg situation. The "Imagine" copy might have been a rip of the Gypsy Eye silvers, but it could also have been someone carelessly choosing to call it "Imagine" simply because Queen played that song that night. Would you mind sharing a sample, or do you have serious hopes of getting a superior version in the near future? As of now, I haven't been able to track down a clean enough recording. The mono one is great, and it seems to be low gen. It's missing SHA and GSTQ. Compare it to yours, and let me know what you think: link Now here's the Gypsy Eye version. It has the missing two tracks (perhaps from a different source), and the sound is so much fuller because it's in stereo. But listen with headphones to what happens at 11 seconds: link The balance inverts for about a quarter second, with a click on each end. Now here's the one I fixed: link The edit isn't perfect, but it's pretty close! The problem is, this happens at least a hundred times during the recording. I don't know if I have that kind of patience! In theory, I could share the mono recording, but I want to hold out and wait for a better version, because I just can't see myself fixing the GE version. But what are those strange echoes in Freddie's Mix? Was that live – intended or not – or is it mixed in afterwards? Sounds like an "inverted" echo, before the actual, louder voice.Yeah, I really don't know what that's all about or how it got there. I doubt the TV station had access to the multi-track, so who knows what went wrong. |

Hi SirGH, sorry for letting you wait. I listened to your sample of "Imagine" from Frankfurt 1980 today (the mono version). It's an enormous upgrade to my mp3 version, lightyears ahead! I couldn't download the other versions because Mediafire either has server problems or the files aren't there anymore. But if you could upload the mono recording, I think a lot of people would appreciate that. Even if there might be a stereo source – who knows where or when to find. |
tilomagnet 22.05.2007 13:08 |
I wonder if the Frankfurt 1979, '80 and '82 were maybe taped by the same guy. If that was true, I hope someone gets hold of the taper one day and gets master transfers from him. Even the circulating multi gen copies of those shows sound really good. |

Even if there might be a stereo source – who knows where or when to find. But you see, what I'm trying to do is circulate the best possible recording of each show... and sharing the mono Frankfurt recording would be going against that, as I know there's a stereo version that sounds better! I'd much rather share a first or second gen of another show. But hey, if you and enough other people want it, then I guess I can do it anyway! tilomagnet wrote: I wonder if the Frankfurt 1979, '80 and '82 were maybe taped by the same guy. But I don't think it was the same taper, unless he had different gear each time, as each recording definitely has a unique sound to it. |

SirGH, thanks for your reply. Of course I'm interested and I would appreciate any version of that recording that's better than mine. I'm not trading my Queen files, except for some occasional sharing on Dimeadozen, it's all for my own pleasure. So I'm not as keen on "the best possible quality" as you may are, but my copy of Frankfurt 80 is too bad even for listening in the car. Please do us the favour and share it! |

But alright, you talked me into it... I'll share it!
