well concerning this, i do have a question. one of my missions before i die is to participate in 'la tomatina'. can someone tell me about when this will happen this year, so i can tell my teacher so hopefully we'll be there for it?
the trip will more than likely be from the end of july to the end of august. is that around that time of year for it?
it would be much appreciated if answered ASAP.
I'm sorry but the whole concept of 'La Tomatina' is absolutely fuckin' retarded.
Every single day thousands die from starvation in poor countries, and instead of actually shipping tomatoes or any sort of goods that could make a difference among people's whose lives hang on a thread for lack of food, they chose to have a mass waste fest for the sake of carrying on with a foolish tradition.
Personally I feel ashamed of carrying Spanish blood through my veins. The saddest part of all is that 'La Tomatina' is only one of many Spanish traditions that instead of representing cultural values it represents the sheer ignorance of those who practice it. Of course without mentioning bullfighting and many other festivals where food is wasted and animals are tortured (many times to death) for what a bunch of idiots consider "fun".
I'm sorry if anyone from Spain feels ofended but that's just exactly the way I feel.
I too am outraged at the festival "la tomatina".
While I am not of spanish origin, I am a Tomato.
Isn't it bad enough we are sliced, diced, and mashed? Sacrificed for centuries for the pure delight of the human taste bud?
My kind have lived through a mass identity crisis...(is it a fruit? is it a vegetable?)
We overcame great comunication barriers..(you say tomato, I say tom ah toe)
Many a valiant tomato gave its life honorably in the name of poor vaudvillian performers...but to be slung at other human beings for the mere pleasure of seeing us smashed and bashed left lifeless on the streets not fit to be used so much as a lowly condiment...
I'm sorry...I can't continue

seriously! i was just asking a question.
and its not the only thing i plan on doing while im there either. it was just an event i wanted to be a part of just once.
about the starvation thing, its not just spain guilty of it. the lack of distribution is in general, the fault of many countries. especially with the engineering of genetics in food nowadays theres really no excuse for it. but we wont go into it...i dont want to start a debate on this thread, i could easily go on and look like a hypocrite or something.... plenty of rice is grown in china, but it gets thrown around at weddings..it happens. food will always be there and it will always be wasted in some way. it is a stupid tradition and could be used for better things, and im aware of that....the point is i just wanted to have fun in something that doesnt happen everyday, at least not here.
in any other case i would agree with you mr jingles, but at the same time, as i said, id like to be a part of something that i think would be fun. in this case, noone is tortured (intentionally) and i may be an idiot, you may not like my decision but i want to try it.
all i wanted was to have some fun in a silly tradition. not like i get that a lot here!
but to liven this place up....thank you sasha! you are a brave tomato! rebel against those bastards throwing you and your people!
hey farva whats the name of the resturant with all the crazy shit on the walls?
btw it turns out im leaving spain jsut before it happens -_-' but its all for school and plenty of fun, i cant wait!!!!
