I'm getting nowhere searching for something such as a Firefox extension which would change selected words to something else on any web page.
I got the idea because I'm sick of hearing about Borat everywhere. I'd like to change every instance of 'Borat' to say, 'banana' or something. Something with an editable dictionary..
If anyone can find me something that will do this, I'd be most appreciative!
It should be easy enough.. a browser loads up pages anyway.. and even something as simple as Notepad can find and replace words with something else.. someone really should make a plug-in/extension that does this.
It could even come with a pre-loaded file for swear words, an aid in parental censorship :-P
Perhaps I'll poke around the Firefox extensions section and see if there's a place for suggestions. I think I'm on to something here :-P

There is only one problem: saving. Temporary cache memory? Oh now that's fun in the case of a large and complex website. It'd work, but it'd take something like 5x as long to load the site.
In other words: like that, people'd dump the browser in no-time.
It shouldn't be too difficult, just a case of reading the html/xml code and when the browser sees one word, display another. And a database of some sort stored on the users machine with what words you want substituted, and what you want them substituted with.
I'm surprised something like this doesn't already exist to allow parents to filter out 'bad' words?
Maybe I, Mr First-Class-Computer-Science-Degree, will get off his fat ass* and make one.
EDIT: Just seen that someone else had the swearword idea earlier in the topic. I really should learn to read.
I will happily create this, as long as I can be certain that no one else has done the same thing before. And I find it hard to believe no one else has done it.
