I've noticed that the piano on a number of Queens more piano based songs is deep in the mix and is often buried by the bass and drums. I really noticed it in somebody to love and bohemion rhapsody. Is this mainly due to the recording techniques and technology of the time or did they just want it in the background.

I always wondered that too, I remember Brian May saying Freddie was self-concious of his playing skills, maybe Freddie didn't want it to be in the foreground all the time.
ya becasue take bicycle race - that's piano all the way, and really catchy piano, yet it's all buried in there. amazing, why did he go to the effort if it can't be heard. maybe just to add depth?
i think they should release thir songs with just piano - they'd be worthy
How do you explain Don't Stop Me Now then? The piano is quite noticeable and there are a few very sour notes.. I can't believe Freddie approved of this :-P
