Too bad he had such an awful criminal record including drug & alcohol abuse, life threatening traffic violations, and assault. It really overshadowed what a great performer he was. link |

Well thats a shock I must say! |
thomasquinn 32989 25.12.2006 05:39 |
That was a surprise... He was alive for 73 years, but he lived 730 in that timespan! |
.DeaconJohn. 25.12.2006 06:18 |
I'm really gutted I have to say. A friend of mine saw him last year, and apparently he was great. Wish I'd taken the chance to go to that gig now... |
Bob The Shrek 25.12.2006 06:43 |
I guess he is not feeling so good now. |

Hmm... so it's official then... "James Brown is dead" da-da-dadadaaaa (Or don't you guys remember that one...? :-) Nah, seriously. The guy was an asshole as a person, but a great and important artist. Respect. |
Penetration_Guru 25.12.2006 07:16 |
yyaaaaooooooowwwwwwwwwwwwwww I always thought he'd go out on the one... |

Jingles, imagine that we're 15 years back in history. Would you start topic about Freddie like this: Too bad he was a gay... If you can't start normal thread with RESPECT for greatness of James Brown, than don't write anything. REST IN PEACE, James Brown... and thank you for everything... ...from today, Heaven is a funkier place! |

Here's the difference: Freddie lived a promiscuous life style that pretty much lead to his death. Sure, it wasn't a good thing and Freddie should have been more careful when it came down to choosing sex partners. Yet, Freddie never had any intention of bringing harm to anyone. James Brown had a countless history of incidents of spousal abuse and assault. I wish I could have better things to say about James Brown, but it's just the reality of how things are. Now as a musician, an icon, an innovator, and a wonderful performer, James Brown was unique. If it wasn't for James Brown, people like Prince, Simply Red, or Michael Jackson would have never been as great as they did at the peak of their careers. |
carboengine 25.12.2006 14:35 |
I just read in The New Yorker magazine in the Night Life Rock and Pop section that James Brown was going to be performing at the B. B. King Blues Club & Grill on New Year's Eve. "James Brown, the Godfather of Soul, gets up off of that thing with a pair of shows." link |
Nathan 25.12.2006 14:49 |
This is indeed very sad, particularly as he died on Christmas Day. |
Lisser 25.12.2006 15:15 |
I was very shocked to hear and apparently so was everyone else. RIP, the world has lost a great entertainer. |

James Brown was a criminal and one the worse crimes he commited was to mistreat his wife several times. If you want to pay tribute to a scum, go ahead. You'll be the idiot here, not me. |

For your information, Albert Einstein was also cruel to his wife. Would you talk about him in that way also? THE BIG PICTURE, you small people... THE BIG PICTURE is what's important. |

The big picture is what's important, but it's made of all the little things - not just what you're known for. |

I was damn upset when I heard about this. *What a voice* that guy had. Well, I guess this is goodbye, James Brown. You'll be smacking angels in Heaven, dude. |

"jerks can't see a big picture and only talk about irrelevant superficial things." I mean no disrespect sir; but spousal abuse isn't irrelevant and superficial. At times, even the perpetrators are guilty about it - so it's hardly right for you to try and get people to pretend it never happened. We know he was great, his music speaks for itself - we don't need you sticking up for him. Just because you like the guy, doesn't mean you should be defending things that really shouldn't be defended. Just stick to discussion of his music, because it seems you may have trouble understanding the concepts behind the 'other stuff'. |

THE BIG PICTURE is what's important. To the abused wife THE BIG PICTURE was the abuse she suffered at his hand. And to answer your question about Einstein... If he was a prick to the people who were supposed to matter most, then yes, I'd talk about him in that way also. So what if he was brilliant. A brilliant man can't be a prick? A brilliant man can't be called irresponsible? A man who beats his wife is no hero - by any stretch of the imagination. Dismissing it in favor of his remarkable career is akin to condoning it. As for James Brown, I've listened to his music, and I've watched his performances on TV, but I never would have gone over to shake the guy's hand. Brilliance ends when the song is over. |

Too bad that "I'm James Brown, bitch" never became a catchphrase. |
Penetration_Guru 27.12.2006 18:35 |
We can make it a catchphrase from now on...in memory of him. Actually, has anyone noticed how...dental... he was? 1....2...3...4...yeaaaowwww that sounds like a dental visit to me. Then there's all that taking it to the bridge (work)... |
john bodega 27.12.2006 20:46 |
Hmm. Watching the news, you'd swear that some spots on James Brown would be about different people. That seems to be a common problem for people with upsetting backgrounds and a lot of money. The more they put into being good at what they do, and the more they seem to do for people; the more their private lives just *suck* balls. |

AspiringPhilosophe 27.12.2006 22:19 |
Gotta agree with Zebonka on this one. As a musician and performer he was an incredible talant, and he will be missed. He has my respect in that reguard. However, once the music as stopped, so has the respect. I find it hard to have respect for someone who was so low that he felt the need to beat up on others (especially his wife) to make himself feel better. That's not anything to defend in any circumstance at all, no matter how brilliant the person is....that's cowardly and cruel, and those qualities should NEVER be defended. Like Zebonka said...the big picture is fine, but remember that it's made of little pieces. |
sparrow 21754 28.12.2006 19:05 |

Why do celebreties like that bother with the gold coffins and the bling and crap anyway? It's just going into the ground, where it will be nearly crushed to death under all the dirt, bugs will crawl in and out of it and he'll slowly decompose into a pile of dust after a century or two. How egotistical do you have to waste your money on things like that? Pay off your final bills and donate the rest to charity or give it to your kids/wife so they can live. Don't bother with a coffin that costs more than what most people make in a year which is only going to look good for a max of three days, and then be buried in the ground where no one will ever see it again. Sheesh! |

He was trying to get his doctors attention by shouting "HEY", but the doctor thought he was singing. |
