Then why did he have a whole show dedicated to his music? I suspect he suffers from the same blinders Queen does when it comes to AI.
And you all should look into why he fired his longtime drummer Liberty Devito. Not very classy, in my opinion.
"The 2006 Billy Joel tour is the first known tour to not include DeVitto on drums since his inclusion in Billy Joel's band in the 1970s. Prior to that point he had the longest running tenure in Joel's band. This is thought to stem from a confrontation between the two men regarding Joel's past problems with alcohol. Another possible reason for the break between the two musicians, according to the New York Post, is that DeVitto wanted more money."
Wikipedia is a good place to start your quest.

Can you send us a link?
" “I told him I was getting divorced, my ex-wife was getting everything, could he help me out? I helped him create hits, but I wasn’t getting any royalties. The next day, he had the tour manager tell me, ‘No way.’”
When Joel didn’t invite him to his 2004 wedding to third wife, Kate Lee, DeVitto says, “I wrote him a letter, confronting him about his drinking and certain management issues. People said I discredited him. But then he went into rehab and proved me right.”"

I don't understand why Liberty Devito has to ask for more money as if Billy Joel is not the one who writes the royalty checks.
For the information I've read, it seems like Liberty is asking the wrong person for money, and Billy clearly has issues with alcohol. It's hard to pick who is at fault in this case.
I'd say send them both to Judge Judy.

True, but here's the thing. Liberty has been around playing on Billy's albums since at least The Stranger, and possibly before that. But he doesn't receive any royalities from that time. Canning him after a 30 year relationship due to a request for more money does not strike me as being above board here. Not only do you deny him more money for past work, but you fire him from the band and deny him money from future work (Joel is constantly on tour).
Plus, the whole drinking thing adds another wrinkle.

Well, that seems like Liberty's side of the story. Not like I'm trying to take Billy Joel's side, but by reading the related articles it seems like there might have been a comment about Billy Joel's drinking problem coming from Liberty in response to Billy Joel not willing to help him with money issues, which resulted on Liberty being fired.
This also makes me wonder if indeed Liberty has not received any royalties since the 70s, then how come he's just speaking now. After all, the best selling Billy Joel albums are the ones that came after Liberty started playing.
Nevertheless is sad that such a long lasting parternship has come down to this. Once again proves that money and friendship hardly ever mix.
