I need advice, my band just broke up again! I'm so distraught, tell me if it's bad luck or if I'm an ass or give advice please!
Here's the tale...
Last year I started a band with my sister and best friend Corri. We weren't really serious but then I found David-a good guitarist and he came to rehearse. After one rehearsal Corri quit because she wasn't as good as David. For months after that we tried to find a drummer when I recruited my friend James(an amazing guitarist) to play for us. Soon after he quit because he said he can't play in 2 bands for battle of the bands. Months went by and in April (a month before battle of the bands) I found this dude Liam on my ex-boyfriend's myspace page. He became our drummer till after battle of the bands. He abruptly quit because "he didn't feel welcome" but it was actually because his girlfriend told him too. Then David quit in July because him and my sister disagree on everything-and he started dumbing down his songs and dabbling in satanism. (WEIRD)In July we got an amazing guitarist(next jimmy page for real) that had no rythm and no personality so we had to let him go. Then we got a southern rythm guitarist who talked through the whole practice and couldn't play crazy train so we had to let him go. Then in september Liam rejoined but last week he quit again because I critisized his drumming. It's the first time I've ever said I thought he should try something else with the drum part. We were playing Night Flight by Zeppelin and he's playing like a techno beat...it didn't go at all! He got pissed, stayed silent for the rest of practice and then quit. I need advice...what am I doing wrong?

^You're doing nothing wrong as far as I'm concerned. Most great bands have a certain chemistry where things just click with the band members. Unfortunatly you're in a bad situation. I don't know much about your band, but what I can say is that their seems to be a lot of friction which isn't what you want. I probably speaking the obvious...damn..listen, I suggest you all take a break from each other. Thats what a lot of rock acts have to do after a while...
I hope I helped a little...if I think of something better I'll let you know...
Take care

You doing something wrong ?
I don't know... maybe you need to find people who are serious about it ? Most kids just aren't.
Unless your "criticising" was really unfair. Which... I don't know since I wasn't there !
Things like this require that "charisma" thing. I wish you luck.
Hail no... You are not an ass at all... This person can’t take constructive criticism, I suppose he's playing may be great, but it’s just not what's needed for this song you have in the works. As an artists in a band you all need to come together, and its your song, so you need to direct it, no point having some one bread when you want toast..eheheh But I would say don’t let them go, keep at it,, these things do happen, they may just need some praise for there talents. Reassure them that the tech stuff is good and there’s nothing wrong with it but for this one track.... you can’t put a square block through a round hole.
^Ok, listen, I read your post again and I really think you should start fresh. Think about who you want regardless of ability. You need people who will cooperate with one another. From their you can progress "together" as one. Just a thought...take it or leave it...
Too right. I've been friends with my band for well on 7 years now and we're on good terms with one another. The brothers naturally are closer but we all know where our boundaries are.
Just wish we had a drummer. Yargh!
